Hey Dan. So, it's confusing but, the worlds in Dream Drop are not in the Dark realm, they are in the sleeping realm. They were made whole, but somehow never woke. I think the best way to think about is World's in the dark realm have their hearts consumed, the sleeping world's do not. The Dark realm's yin to the light realm's yang, while the sleeping realm is a whole nother layer of reality beneath the 2.
Also spoilers: Am I wrong is thinking that there are 4 layers: Realm of Light, Realm of Darkness, Realm or Sleep, Realm of Death (where sora is now) and one leads the other.
I really hope you take the time to look at the animations in 0.2, because they do a lot of fun little things. Aqua has an idle animation and will dismiss her Keyblade after a short time while out of battle, magic has a visible effect on the environment - including Blizzard creating a trail of ice that you can slide on like Flowmotion - and also on enemies, like freezing them with Blizzard or stunning them with Thunder. Also, you do start to run a little faster once you've been going for a second. Plus, you slide down slopes! Seeing how you're liking 0.2 so far, I think you're going to really enjoy Kingdom Hearts III from a visual and animation standpoint. I very much look forward to when you get there!

I saw 358/2 Days at a used game store and picked it up because of this, since I tend to skim the movie-versions videos. It’s a crying shame it was turned into a movie, because it’s great. I think all the games that used command decks had X as the button for chests, which was the last two Kingdom Hearts game you played (DDD and BBS), while all the non-command deck games had triangle as the chest buttons. I think when you started playing Birth by Sleep you were also accidentally pressing triangle for every chest until you adjusted.

Dan, ICYMI, the Re:Mind scenario (the story tidbits of the DLC) is standalone and can be played after clearing the main story. That's what Nomura revealed some time ago. There shouldn't be anything conflicting with the base game story beyond a new Keyblade. Just in case you were wondering if to play the game before the DLC, it's not that much like the Final Mixes of old.

Does xemnas constantly know the location of everyone named alex?
yamiyomizuki ... I wasn’t saying long wording was a series criticism or even a problem this series had ... I think you got the wrong end of the stick. Anyway I will because most of those points you made are false and I want evidence from when the series clearly contradicts themselves. People in the series are made of 3 connected components, (in the non biological sense) a heart, a body, and a soul(which could also be translated as a mind ect). A heart is shown to be an emotional and connective element of people, in basic therms think of any fictional media that’s talking about a metaphorical heart and you’ve got the basis for a KH heart. People aren’t the only things that have hearts as worlds are also shown to have hearts, in this case probably because of their inhabitants. Hearts are shown to be able to share and take, usually by providing strength to others through their connections or becoming containers for other things such as other hearts. Nobody’s are the simplest things to explain, when a person of strong will (ie they’ve got a strong sense of self/soul/mind) looses their heart and their body remains, they will become a nobody. Nobody’s are beings that lack hearts and therefore lack emotions and the stuff that comes with having a heart. However as these beings continue to exist, they gradually start growing a heart back (think like certain lizards and animals can with limbs) to replace the one lost since the body knows it shouldn’t be without a heart. And lastly, no Xemnas isn’t able to track anyone with an X, the X he put on Sora and in the org names isn’t an X, it’s called the recusants sigil. Not every peice of rectangular cloth is a flag or doormat, the purpose and making of the cloth determines what it is. The recusants sigil is basically a magical GPS that Xemnas used to track org 13, that he made based on the greek character that the Latin letter X originates from X(pronounced Chi or Kye or key). This was explained in the glossary term that you literally got right after the boss fight where Xemnas said that.

The function dnd nature of hearts is whatever is convenient to the story at the time. I have no problem with liking this series, but please don't pretend it's consistant and logical.
Unreal Engine 4 has been around for, what, 5 years now, but having grown up with UE3 games on the 360 and PC, I'm still blown away by how pretty UE4 can be, every time.
I think this game compared to KH2/DDD is worth a Playframe episode maybe. Although the particle effects and animations are super smooth, the walking and actions feel less polished and a bit sluggish or something. Aqua's voice acting is so good, by the way. I'm stoked to see the rest of this game!
I just would like to say that for me personally, morale is improved BECAUSE of Kingdom Hearts on this channel. So... um... please don't stop just because morale has improved OK?
The tilt on Aqua's run does look really weird, it's a little too far and it doesn't respond to changes in directional movement fast enough. Feels like she's more floating than running.
Okay 1, most importantly, this is taking place between that secret level in BBS, and Kingdom Hearts 1. That's, the most important this is before Sora came in and saved the day returning all the worlds that fell to darkness to their proper state. 2, The realm of Darkness and the Realm of Sleep are two different states though near each other. The worlds that fall to darkness, are in effect lost, bad times had by all, though for the most part those who lived on the worlds do not even notice it happening, aside from those of strong will who escaped by becoming Sora's summons in 1 like Simba and Mushu. However when Sora did do his big heroic thing in KH1 he restored the worlds from the Realm of Darkness, however the ones we went to in DDD did not re-awaken, but these worlds that fell to darkness, as well as Sora's home, did. Destiny Island was not in the realm of sleep when t was restored at the end of 1 it was just, restored. It's like, if a character in an rpg dies, but you have a raise spell, then they can come back like the dying never happened, just right from dead to back on their feet. But if their soul, as it were, were pulled from their body and trapped somewhere, then no matter how many times you use Raise, they won't be alive again and you have to free them from being trapped. The worlds in DDD were in effect trapped in dreams, where as the worlds lost in KH1 were just dead. And beating up Ansem in 1 was Sora casting Raise on the dead worlds.
I didn't like her moving around too much (her running animation doesn't really sell that speed), but Aqua fights so preeeeeetty! So many lights and twirls! Also 12:10 WOW Carrie. I didn't figure you for a "looting the dead end's corpse" type of person! Also also: No! The game's name is Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage - and we should always call it that.
Yeah, KH3 is freaking incredible technically when you consider how little experience the team had with the engine. It looks and runs way better than it probably has a right to.

This is another of those statements where the details override the intent that was clearly there, changing the meaning of the sentence from "something something dire situations" to "here's a reason to hate this character". You know, like when DitZ said he had _no idea_ what digitizing Fake Kingdom Hearts would do and did it anyways. 12:10: You joke, but that's basically what people searching for secrets in random unimportant areas of the map are doing. 26:15: "Aqua 1.1: A Fractured Master"? 0:05: So...until they get past the magibabble nonsense and torturing characters who've done little to deserve it and into the warm fuzzies? I always thought the KH3 models didn't seem to fit in the world, that there was some aesthetic clash; if it has something to do with the engine, my irritation and confusion can stop being directed at the artists. 16:55: I like to call this the "Dragon Ball Problem" (named after the titular orbs in _Dragon Ball_ and how they blunt the dramatic impact of basically everything short of the galaxy being destroyed). It's when things should have a deep impact on the audience, but they don't because they remember how this has been overcome in the past. 19:00: Kinda weird that Kingdom Hearts is rewarding you for destroying some of the few sources of light in a realm consumed by darkness... 22:05: Another D&D character idea to add to the bin: A mage who keeps casting spells other than the one he meant to. Never devastatingly (no _burning hands_ instead of _bull's strength),_ but entertainingly _(fireball_ instead of _lightning bolt_ or something). It's below "balloon mage," but it's on the list. 32:05: My first thought was "Memory," but _Cats_ isn't a crossover between Andrew Lloyd Weber musicals and Final Fantasy. Though come to think of it, that could be pretty cool...
The sleeping worlds are like the worlds' hearts. In DDD, Sora is in the hearts of those worlds just as much as Riku is in his. At least, that'a what I gather. The pgysical worlds would have fallen into the RoD.
So if you have a PS4 Pro, KH3 will run at almost locked 60 if you put it on 1080p mode hardware wise, otherwise look forward to variable framerate between 30-60.

Nobody in the AAA space does visual aesthetics quite like SE. Their developer branch has just polished their skills at designing things to be striking and beautiful to a mirror shine. Others are better at pulling things off technically and others are definitely better at going for photo-realism or grittiness, but for sheer prettiness nobody has as much institutional expertise.
From what i remember of proudmode, there are just some trivia things that can be unlocked easier in proud mode. Not sure if any of those little trivia are important though.
Situation commands do work how you said. If you use Fire a bunch, then you'll get to use Fira. Use your Keyblade a lot and you'll get one that gives you the melee change. There are others, but that's for you to discover. ;) Though I will say, (spoiler I guess? alright I was trying to play the games ahead of you but I fell behind in the middle of Birth by Sleep so I skipped watching those playthroughs but now I feel like I really should watch those to catch up on this aspect of the story.

The Heartless look weird with... actual shading and color. Can't say I'm a huge fan. They're supposed to be dark blobs, not blue defined shapes! I am all for Aqua grinding now. 3D might've given us all the Xehanorts nonsense, but at least it gave us grinding too. I'm actually missing the command deck after that and BBS, though. (Edit: Glad combat styles have made a comeback, though!) The more "subtle" camera move on starting a battle is way better than the drawn-out battle intros in 2 IMO. 3D too, I guess, but at least that gave you a look at the cute Dream Eater friends.

So when a world falls to darkness, it's gone. Sora managed to save all the world's that had fallen to darkness by defeating ansem and sealing kingdom hearts. The sleeping worlds were lost to darkness, then saved, but didnt fully awaken.
Yeah, so uh... There's... been a bit of a time skip between when we last saw Aqua and this... I won't specify how much, as is spoiler, but it is notable for exactly where it places - at least - the finale of this little snippet.
While yes, it's very pretty, I feel that the spell animations are very visually noisy. There's just so much visual clutter in them. Aqua herself and her melee animations are fine though

9:33 Actually no Dan, these aren’t sleeping worlds, these are the worlds that were consumed by Darkness in KH1, since they were consumed by Darkness their in the Realm of Darkness. This game takes place after the special episode of BBS, with Aqua still being trapped in the RoD.

Sleeping worlds are basically special cases for worlds consumed by darkness, and no “sleeping worlds” existed till KH1 when Ansem was defeated. As said above worlds were consumed and their stuff is here, when Sora restored the worlds some never recovered fully and were basically in a coma.
"Long wording" is the least of this series problems, try explaining what a heart is and what it does without contradicting anything from the narrative of any game, or what a nobody is and how they come to be, and that isn't even getting the things that are not only contradictory but also at face value stupid like for example xemnas being able to track anyone with an x on their clothing or in their name. Does xemnas constantly know the location of everyone named alex?

Anyway I will because most of those points you made are false and I want evidence from when the series clearly contradicts themselves.
People in the series are made of 3 connected components, (in the non biological sense) a heart, a body, and a soul(which could also be translated as a mind ect).
A heart is shown to be an emotional and connective element of people, in basic therms think of any fictional media that’s talking about a metaphorical heart and you’ve got the basis for a KH heart. People aren’t the only things that have hearts as worlds are also shown to have hearts, in this case probably because of their inhabitants. Hearts are shown to be able to share and take, usually by providing strength to others through their connections or becoming containers for other things such as other hearts.
Nobody’s are the simplest things to explain, when a person of strong will (ie they’ve got a strong sense of self/soul/mind) looses their heart and their body remains, they will become a nobody. Nobody’s are beings that lack hearts and therefore lack emotions and the stuff that comes with having a heart. However as these beings continue to exist, they gradually start growing a heart back (think like certain lizards and animals can with limbs) to replace the one lost since the body knows it shouldn’t be without a heart.
And lastly, no Xemnas isn’t able to track anyone with an X, the X he put on Sora and in the org names isn’t an X, it’s called the recusants sigil. Not every peice of rectangular cloth is a flag or doormat, the purpose and making of the cloth determines what it is. The recusants sigil is basically a magical GPS that Xemnas used to track org 13, that he made based on the greek character that the Latin letter X originates from X(pronounced Chi or Kye or key). This was explained in the glossary term that you literally got right after the boss fight where Xemnas said that.

The function dnd nature of hearts is whatever is convenient to the story at the time. The recusant sigil is still just an x and since you mention the greek letter i should mention that it's not pronounced key or kai bit rather as a hard guteral h, and has no symbolic connection with finality outside of this franchise. I have no problem with liking this series, but please don't pretend it's consistant and logical.

Unreal Engine 4 has been around for, what, 5 years now, but having grown up with UE3 games on the 360 and PC, I'm still blown away by how pretty UE4 can be, every time.
from what I understand, teh "sleeping worlds" weren't lost to darkness, but asleep because they were really close to it. These worlds are just lost.
The hearts of our kingdoms must be preserved.
After this series, I can watch the KH 3 trailers and at least kinda understand them now. And that’s what I plan on doing.

I think this game compared to KH2/DDD is worth a Playframe episode maybe. Although the particle effects and animations are super smooth, the walking and actions feel less polished and a bit sluggish or something.

The tilt on Aqua's run does look really weird, it's a little too far and it doesn't respond to changes in directional movement fast enough. Feels like she's more floating than running.
I think she always leaned too far when she ran.
Okay 1, most importantly, this is taking place between that secret level in BBS, and Kingdom Hearts 1. That's, the most important this is before Sora came in and saved the day returning all the worlds that fell to darkness to their proper state.
2, The realm of Darkness and the Realm of Sleep are two different states though near each other. The worlds that fall to darkness, are in effect lost, bad times had by all, though for the most part those who lived on the worlds do not even notice it happening, aside from those of strong will who escaped by becoming Sora's summons in 1 like Simba and Mushu. However when Sora did do his big heroic thing in KH1 he restored the worlds from the Realm of Darkness, however the ones we went to in DDD did not re-awaken, but these worlds that fell to darkness, as well as Sora's home, did. Destiny Island was not in the realm of sleep when t was restored at the end of 1 it was just, restored.
It's like, if a character in an rpg dies, but you have a raise spell, then they can come back like the dying never happened, just right from dead to back on their feet. But if their soul, as it were, were pulled from their body and trapped somewhere, then no matter how many times you use Raise, they won't be alive again and you have to free them from being trapped. The worlds in DDD were in effect trapped in dreams, where as the worlds lost in KH1 were just dead. And beating up Ansem in 1 was Sora casting Raise on the dead worlds.

Yeah, KH3 is freaking incredible technically when you consider how little experience the team had with the engine. It looks and runs way better than it probably has a right to.
3:10: "These kids have to be saved from their sad end, not because it's sad and they didn't deserve it, but because I can use them." This is another of those statements where the details override the intent that was clearly there, changing the meaning of the sentence from "something something dire situations" to "here's a reason to hate this character". You know, like when DitZ said he had _no idea_ what digitizing Fake Kingdom Hearts would do and did it anyways.

The sleeping worlds are like the worlds' hearts. In DDD, Sora is in the hearts of those worlds just as much as Riku is in his. At least, that'a what I gather.
The pgysical worlds would have fallen into the RoD.

Nobody in the AAA space does visual aesthetics quite like SE. Their developer branch has just polished their skills at designing things to be striking and beautiful to a mirror shine. Others are better at pulling things off technically and others are definitely better at going for photo-realism or grittiness, but for sheer prettiness nobody has as much institutional expertise.
From what i remember of proudmode, there are just some trivia things that can be unlocked easier in proud mode. Not sure if any of those little trivia are important though.
Situation commands do work how you said. If you use Fire a bunch, then you'll get to use Fira. Use your Keyblade a lot and you'll get one that gives you the melee change. There are others, but that's for you to discover. ;) Though I will say, (spoiler I guess? I don't think it is, but, better safe than sorry.)

The Heartless look weird with... actual shading and color. Can't say I'm a huge fan. They're supposed to be dark blobs, not blue defined shapes!
I am all for Aqua grinding now. 3D might've given us all the Xehanorts nonsense, but at least it gave us grinding too. I'm actually missing the command deck after that and BBS, though. (Edit: Glad combat styles have made a comeback, though!)
The more "subtle" camera move on starting a battle is way better than the drawn-out battle intros in 2 IMO. 3D too, I guess, but at least that gave you a look at the cute Dream Eater friends.

So when a world falls to darkness, it's gone. Sora managed to save all the world's that had fallen to darkness by defeating ansem and sealing kingdom hearts.
The sleeping worlds were lost to darkness, then saved, but didnt fully awaken.
Also the animation for her spell weaver finish is actually taken from her ultimate shotlock in bbs.
