- This song tells us about the capture of Rome by Alaric I (Gothic: 𐌰𐌻𐌰𐍂𐌴𐌹𐌺𐍃), the first Visigothic king. You may have been confused by the fact that I showed a map of Iberia, and not Italy. The fact is that Alaric I was the king of the visigoths, and despite the fact that he captured Rome, Visigothic kingdom located in Iberia.

It was longago that the Goths from the east
brought their shields from Scythia,
oppressed with their force many a nation,
when two conquering peoples set out southwards.
The Goths’ empire grew by the year. They had two lawful kings, Radgoth and Alaric; they grew in power.
Then over the Alps were many enticed
full of Gothic vainglory, eager for battle,
near conflict. Banner billowed
bright on its shaft. The spearmen thought
all Italy, to overtake
did the shield-fighters. They achieved this
up to the famous coast, full from the Alps

Then the Romans’ kingdom was won,

I'm from the southern coast of France, so the Visigoths are part of my history in a way, since they controlled that bit of land to the north called Septimania by the Franks (which today would be part of the Languedoc Roussillon region).
Toulouse was the capital of the Visigoths fpr a while.

Is very likely they are descendants of the Crimean Tartars who where deported from Crimea by the USSR. Some Crimean Tartars descended from the mix of the surviving Crimean goths after Crimean khanate conquered them.
Other more crazy possibility is that they descend from Gothic/eastern Germanic tribes that become nomadic after or before hunnic conquest, the goths and some other Eastern Germanic tribes descended from the mix between Scandinavian settlers with the Sarmatians and other Western Scythian tribes.
