  • I was not impressed by the other videos out there and felt they took too long and removed too much unnecessary shit. This process should only take about thirty minutes or so and is a lot simpler so I you find it helpful and thank you for watching Crippled Critter.

    I own a 2002 Ford Taurus and it has the same identical engine layout. I appreciate the video on how to do this. You made it far more easier than other videos I have seen on this make and model. Other people for some reason waste their time on ripping out half of their engine just to do this and as you pointed out it isn't necessary. I am planning on doing this myself and will save your video for reference. And thank you as well for speaking in clear and concise English, most other folks in other videos are either hard to hear or they are only speaking Spanish and I don't speak Spanish. I will also keep in mind on keeping a "time out" chair like you have here. Thanks brother, you earned a new subscriber today (12/28/23).

    I’m glad I found this. I was worried I’d have to tear shit apart and get all greasy, but damn this looks easy. I’m getting tired of working on this damn car. Recently, I’ve replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, steering wheel, starter, alternator, battery, side door switches, the window motor, and fuel filter and I did all of that without a cussin’ chair and trust me. It would’ve helped.

    Thank You Critter Speed Shop!!! I was amazed at how fast it came out! I did remove the radiator reservoir tank because I have Ogre hands and this made a lot of room plus I wanted to flush the radiator anyway. 10 minutes to remove the tank, and another 10 to get the pulley off! Simply a great way to do this job!! Thanks!!!

      Absolutely. One little bolt with a 5/16 head, and two little hand pull clips. Headlight out in 30 seconds. Also the steel around the headlight hole makes a great surface to hold the backup wrench for the puller, both for removal and installation.

    Excellent video, straight to the point, no wasting time. Love how you work smarter not harder.
    Anyway about installing the puller… another video said something about removing a 3/8 hex set screw from the pulley shaft (but it was seized so he didn’t do it). Is that accurate, or does the puller just screw in?

    • @troycharbonneau8643
      @troycharbonneau8643 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did it today. No setscrew removal, puller screws right in. I removed the headlight, one bolt and 2 clips. Headlight opening is perfect for using the puller and don’t even have to disconnect the coolant reservoir hose.
      Couple things I would add. The power steering line is attached to an exhaust manifold stud with a nut, removing this nut makes it so much easier to finagle the pump in/out and reconnect connect the line.
      I didn’t disconnect that AC clip. But one thing I did was wrap the clip and line in a rag. When reinstalling the pulley, the wrench wants to pop as the pulley presses on, and repeatedly bangs into the AC line. The rag helps protect the line and your hands.

      the clip on the line at 1:57 is a coolant line , he left the ac lines connected-- don't take ac lines loose!!!!!!! that clip is a factory clamp for the coolant jug- you have 2 , one in front and one at back --also a big one on the lower of the tank. leave them all connedcted except the one he takes off-- also leave the overflow jug loose so you can move it around a little to get your removel tool in there for the power steering pump

      More than likely it is coming from around the seal. Usually drips onto the ac pump causing the clutch in the pulley to go bad.

    I have been having this promble with my car 03 Ford Taurus it all started bc I changed the air compressor, and the belt. Then power steering pump kept getting milkey fluids in it and it was bubbling and winning!! Let’s tell you that I’ve paid over $400 in labor to about 4 different people! I’ve gotten my alternator and battery stolen and my window busted out due to my car still sitting broke down people break into shit around here obviously! Needless to say the pump is on after 2 belts , 2 power steering pumps, 3 pulleys, bc they kept snapping them! It’s been so bad! Now it’s still winning and bubbling and now it shoots out everytime I turn my car off! It was not vac sucked. But we did unhook hoses and pour power steering fluid in and turn the wheel back n forth with car running. I think it was running. Not sure. Might have been off actually. Bc I think it’s suppose to be off. But now my car is still sitting. Here after I’ve spent over 1,000 just to change a power steering pump and I lost and alternator and battery! Please HELP! Ima a girl and don’t know nothing about cars and obviously these dumb ass men I know don’t know nothing about them either. They just claim to know to get the labor money and leave with my car broke down still!

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel
      @VirginiaPatriotRebel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm really not sure what's going on with your car. I would have to diagnose it myself to give you a clear answer, but I think you might have a bad rack. The only other thing would be that the belt is running the pump backwards, and I just don't see how that's possible.

      There should be a few bolts in the kit, find the one that screws in the front of the pull. Place the more open end of the separating ring against the pulley with the bolt and washer behind it on the smaller end and it will pull the pulley on to the shaft as you tighten it.

    Can I borrow the cursing chair before I get started 🤔. As simple as you made it look, I'm in for a days worth of work.

      @Richardson501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude, I really needed that chair! I'm back to removing the new pump because the pulley install tool stripped out, $40 bucks down the drain. Any idea thread pattern for the 🔩?

    Thank you great video. I'm just wondering what if my new pump does not have plastic reservoir. Did I buy the wrong one? Can i adapt it?

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel
      @VirginiaPatriotRebel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend returning it and purchasing the one with the reservoir.

    U didn’t show how to take the front bolts out of pump r replace pulley

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel
      @VirginiaPatriotRebel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I admit I did fall short on a few things, but the bolt removal is a standard process of counter clockwise rotation. The installation is pretty easy as you use the bolt in the kit to tighten the pull back on to the pump.

    hey removing overflow tank made a snap putting it back in made more room for regular wrenches ,i was hoping not to remove all or that other stuff ,save me some time. been faster if i didn't have exchange pump with bad threads and installer with dad threads

    Having trouble reinstalling the pulley, did you use the insert screw in the shaft of the pump?

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel

      Yes

      @@VirginiaPatriotRebel What is the size you used that goes in the shaft

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel
      @VirginiaPatriotRebel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the bolt that comes in the kit with the puller is the one you insert in the center hole in the pump to pull the pulley back on.

    I was wondering if you had to bleed the air out of the power steering line after installing the new pump?

    • @VirginiaPatriotRebel
      @VirginiaPatriotRebel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always fill the reservoir, then start the car. While the engine is running turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left, then center the wheel. Check the reservoir again to top it off. This should force any air that's in the system, out. If you feel the need you can repeat this process. 👍 Thanks for watching.

      I've never had do fix that problem before, maybe there is a problem with the rack itself or there is something restricting the high pressure line.

    Take off the part about a 20 mm wrench. That's incorrect, it is a 13/16 on the removal tool. Due to your video I bought a 20.
