My favourite thing about this scene is how much Howl cries and says he wants to die because his hair turned orange while orange haired Markl stands there silent.

In the book it's implied that his hair becomes a reddish color because Sophie was thinking about her own hair while looking into his beauty products (she's ginger in the books, btw).

One of my favorite things about this scene is that after yelling at him, even though she ran out in tears feeling upset and insulted, she actually looks a little bit younger. She stands up for herself, and after having a cry, she gets down to business ready to take charge again. I've just always appreciated that subtle shift.

Although Diana Wynn Jones obviously wrote the novels, my favorite take about Howl's Moving Castle book vs movie is that "the movie is how Howl tells the story" and "the book is how Sophie remembers it"

I can kinda relate to Sophie not taking up with Howl’s crap. It’s kinda sad that she didn’t think she’s pretty, she still stands up for herself, even though Howl is a powerful wizard.
