Howl's voice in English dub is raspy and rough while in Japanese it's very gentle and kind. That's a huge difference there.
Exactly. I think japanese and french VA is the best at choosing the cast for the characters though.

I watch howl moving castle everytime in japanese,and this is the first time i hear howl;'s voice in eng, and it do shock me, he sound rough and raspy , i prefer more in japanese too, it just soft and calming
When Howl says "Clacifer, you are so obedient" it's actually so beautiful since Calcifer has his heart. So it's actually Howl's heart being obedient to Sophie

@@naehalmulazim Likes are not the most important thing, haha:) Well, I don't want to argue, I just personally don't think that it's a coincidence Calcifer obeyed Sophie immediately, and I find that thought endearing. If you don't believe in the symbolism, it can be cute still if you compare it to your partner's pet accepting you immediately after you meet it.

There was this theory I learned about how Sofie was let into the castle. So we all know that Calcifer is technically Howl's heart. So when Sofie found the castle it was technically howls heart that let him inside. Which explains the part when howl said "Calcifer your being so obedient" "Not just anybody can do that"

This is such a mundane, simple scene of everyday's life, but the execution makes it so interesting. I wonder what exactly makes it so captivating. The art? The sound? The details? The interaction? The simplicity itself? Or maybe the amalgamation of all these?
Howl's mastery over the whole situation is on another level. He applies exactly the right amount of pressure in the right place at the right time in the right way. He's so much in control that he can serve his servants because at breakfast there is no hierarchy.
Something about it's sort of surreal too.

Great comment! All of those elements are crucial, but - personally - I think the sound design is the secret ingredient in Ghibli movies. You can see (or hear) it in this scene: the oil frying, the eggs cracking, the plates hitting the table... so many little details. Ambient, background noises that I don't seem to hear in other movies. They make the scene feel lifelike, and so soothing and relaxing too!
Honestly this scene held my attention because I wanted to know who pink jacket guy was and if Sophie would get in trouble for trespassing and being the worst liar ever

This cooking scene is a MASTERPIECE.

This scene is obviously immaculate, but one of the more understated aspects that add to this sense of homeliness is the gentle, and textural sound design. The soft thud of the books on the table, the scraping of the pan, the pulsing flame. A masterclass.

I just had a listen at the Italian dub, and is super interesting to compare what they made Marco address Sophie with. In French, the informal you was chosen (tu), whereas in Italian the very formal one was picked, Lei.
But still dayum... he sounds so hot in the dubs and original.

Of all the time you heard him address her in this clip he is almost unusually respectful, especially since she refers to herself as Mamie Sophie when in France, unlike in other cultures, you rarely call an old woman "granny" unless she is basically family

I'm French, but for me, being totally objective, the English voice of Howl is the greatest - Christian Bale! Some versions, like in the case of Italian or Persian are too 'thin', not manly at all, and just don't have a mystery about them. Bale has a voice that is pure perfection: seductive and manly but also sensitive& soothing at the same time!! Just listen to it. It's brilliant and fits Howl's character to perfection!

First time I see someone compliment German Howl, LOL. His voice isn't really special for our language's VA's, but definitely in comparison to all the other ones, surely is way more casual. x)
This clip made me feel so nostalgic, especially because there's also the german Audiotrack, which was the language I watched it in when I was ten, maybe even nine. I know nostalgia has probably a strong influence on me, but for me, Studio Ghibli will always be the greatest animation studio ever.

Make a claw shape with your index and middle finger, using them to hold the top of the egg while your thumb holds the bottom. Crack the egg then pull back with your index and middle finger. It's not too difficult but you are more likely to get egg shell in your eggs.
Not a very skillful to me. Oh btw In Indonesia, every fried rice cheff in the street does.

I always watched Ghibli movies in Italian since I was a child and never actually thought about the fact that the films were also dubbed in other languages, to me it feels so surreal to hear this scene in another language lol.
Anyway please listen to the italian version on here I think it's not getting the recognition it deserves
Its legit the same for me. I've never listened to ghibli's movie in other language than my mother tongue (French). Not even in Japanese. I tried once with the castle in the sky but after seeing these movies 15 times in French, it was like I was hearing smth else. So strange. And I listened to the Italian dub, and honestly it felt great.
