    Have the same problem. Was going to take it to Mechanic, figuring I was not capable to fix this problem. Hell with these new computer systems, had on idea of what to lot for. Parts store did a diagnostic check and came up with the same code. I just didn't know where the sensor was on the engine. After finding you on the Tube, watched your 8 minute video, restored my faith in this 72 year old man, that I might be able to pull this off. Been away from turning wrenches for about 50 yrs. , once upon a time knew my way around just about anything that burned gas. Computer systems on vehicles now days are a New Beast to reckon with. Any way thank you for posting this video, and coming into my life. Have a great day, today my Friend! Larry in Montana.

    Interesting to see different ways of bringing up fault codes. On my GM Astra in UK you stand on the brake and accelerator pedals and turn on ignition. Keep the vids coming.

    Hi. Just an heads up. I've had the same non starting problems. And i have found that in my case i can just simply crawl underneath and pull mine out and simply wipe it off with a clean rag and reinstall it and it usually works again till it gets covered again with oil. Tks.

    Great video. My 2003 Ram 1500 4.7L did the same thing. I did notice a few times just prior to the crank no start that the truck sometimes had an occasional slight surge at cruising speed. I see there are two sensors on that side of the block. Camshaft & Crankshaft. One is towards the front and one in the rear by the transmission. I have ordered both for mine today. Thanks for the video and hope Blue is still running strong.

    I heard a rattle after removing crank position sensor and putting back in.
    I was unable to get an ohm reading on the sensor.
    Do you think the rattle is from how starter aligns back in or that rod broke?
    I had heard a rattle on previous starts but it would go away after start.

  • @bruceheath5657
    @bruceheath5657 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It looks pretty easy but there is no mention that the sensor can be stuck tight up in the engine and can be very difficult to get out.

  • @chrisderus8172
    @chrisderus8172 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video, I love it when repairs are that simple. I couldn't help but notice when you started your truck, you have that engine rattle. My 4.7 also has this but disappears after a couple minutes. What would you say is the cause? I'm leaning toward a timing chain tensioner and or guides.

    • @fishingwithalexx
      @fishingwithalexx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is notorious on these 4.7 L. Most of the time can be 2 things.
      1. Broken exhaust manifold bolt.
      2. Lifters ticking
      In my case it was a broken manifold bolt !

    • @russmccardle4314
      @russmccardle4314 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An exhaust tick will quiet down after warm. Look at the rear bolts on the manifold many time break off. Front of engine most likely timing guides or tensioners. I’ve had to do both on my 4.7. 5.7 also breaks manifold bolts

  • @dutchminx88

    Have you had any additional issues after the camshaft sensor was replaced? This has happened to my truck. Same year, make, model, color and error code. Was thinking it was the PCM. But I'd much rather try this out first. This seems relatively easy to replace, if I wanted to try it on my own. Any other pointers or tips?

    Is this the same location for 3.9 Dakota 4wd?
    My truck has crank but no start.
    Truck sat awhile before I bought previous.
    Can't hear fuel pump prime issue can be this but no idea of condition starter alternator but when truck ran after I bought it was decent.
    I put new die-hard gold battery from advance.
    When I changed battery truck yried cranking but wouldn't I tried jump with my car backup.
    Because I saw voktage on dash it should quarter charge but my battery is brand new this was few days ago.
    Could my issue is also camsensor too.
    Good videos on dakota

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3.9 crank sensor is on the back of the engine and the cam sensor is in the distributor. Be sure to check for codes in the pcm.

    I'm trying to change the crankshaft position sensor on my dakota 4.7 but the ones autozone and O'Reilly have hare slightly different than the OEM. Is that normal?

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they will look slightly different. Just make sure the dimensions are the same and fitment is good.

  • @octaviomarroquin3266

    My Dodge Ram 2002 had this start program, but the engine didn’t start. I just change this sensor, and bAm. It works perfectly.
    Thanks for your advise about disconnecting the battery. The engine light went off either because I change the sensor or disconnect the battery.
    Will see how it works from now on.

    Did you have the NO BUS code ? I got a 4.7 crank no start. I cant even get codes to pop up. Seems to be 500 different things to check

    • @TheGasTap
      @TheGasTap  ปีที่แล้ว

      You must have a newer truck. The CAN BUS system was required by the government starting in 2009. Do some research on CAN BUS systems. It links every computer in the truck.
