8:52 me, having a diagnosis of autism, I laugh at this. I can see how this is an important skill to learn for neurotypical folks, but at the same time I am so happy that I by nature am already at that level. My lack of experience is the part you started your journey from, which is my drive to understand. Thinking about this, that might be why I am so good at breaking things down to unknowledgable people, as I wish to explore the complicated on the simple level.

Your thesis is quite big. Congratulations and thanks for the video. After my masters in peace and conflict studies, I intend to do a PhD in same discipline. Your video is an inspiration.

Thanks for this video. I have been working for government doing earth science research for six years. I have increasingly realized that to continue progressing and eventually run my own lab, I need a PhD. I do indeed love science and adding to human knowledge in my field. But unfortunately, I have anxiety issues and I'm daunted by the time commitment, sacrafices, and financial implications of starting grad school. Videos like yours at least help me think things through.

try Dr Rupert Sheldrake on the corrupted corperation system that created scientism, and not real science that can be shown & repeated.

Thank you so much for posting a video like this, your career Im looking into so helpful as a a PHD in travel and tourism isn’t as heard of as you mentioned like science or something else of that nature. I love learning about travel and tourism. I feel like it’s something you can learn and never get bored of it’s talking about real life and the world! Not boring stuff like maths 🤣. As it’s so niche it’s great that you are showing this off.

Very helpful video. Actually, I'm an engineering professional in the Oil and Energy Industry. in my work experience, I've never seen a job ad with requirements to have a PhD in other to get a job in BP, Shell, etc. No big Oil conglomerate has ever asked for a PhD. However, my ambition is to be on top of my field, lead the industry and be a force to reckon with. Do I need a PhD to be on that level?

It really depends on your subject area and career aspirations as to whether doing a PhD is value for money or not, but I am sure in some cases you will be right!

@@TourismTeacher fair point, I'm just seeing so many graduates burdened with debt decades later. Selecting a marketable field of study is key.
