I’ve had one for 2 years now, in NZ. Top spec. Fabulous vehicle. $20,000 extra for plug in tech is going to be difficult to justify, my earlier estimates predicted it would take over 200,000 km to justify. Methinks more like 250,000. So there’s no economic sense to have the PHEV. But I really like the car. I have a small George Foreman grill that I plug in to cook my travel steak. Now I’m waiting for a dual cab Navara PHEV.
Yeah, but for that money you have the equivalent of 2 Tesla Powerwalls with their own back-up generator AND a much quicker and more competent car to drive.
GSR or base model - big price difference, what is different about the feel of not having all the gadgets and being lighter because it doesn’t have the extras? That would e be good comparison review
What's the difference between this one and the Exceed Tourer PHEV besides the black colour scheme? Is there a heads up display? Nice review by the way.
I get the conundrum with PHEV's, as mentioned in this vlog - in EV mode, you're lugging around an ICE + fuel, and in ICE mode, you're lugging around heavy batteries + motor. Why then don't we see more EV's with a small, economical ICE range-extender, and a small fuel tank? I wouldn't buy a PHEV, for the reasons just mentioned, and I wouldn't buy a pure EV due to limited range (I live in a regional area), but a range-extender EV I could see myself handing over my hard-earned.
It's not as bad as you make out. EV SUV with about 400 km range weighs about the same as Outlander at 2 tonnes or so. You're lugging around a heavy battery that you only seldom need all of for road trips. And we had an AWD Territory diesel V6 7 seater. Same interior space at Outlander with similarly useless 3rd row seats. Guess what - it also weighed in at around 2 tonnes! So yeah, your theory of lugging around dead weight is great...in theory. But in reality the PHEV compromise is a pretty sweet deal for many use cases. EV for nearly all your day to day around town running. Plus no worries about towing a trailer in the country for as far as you like and wherever you like.
I've just ordered one. Novated leasing and all the "electric car" incentives along with the quality feel made it a relatively easy choice as the "heading towards retirement" car (well in 5-6 years). Our daily commute fits into the expected electric range so we can drastically reduce the km we put on the Merc coupe' and not spend $170/fn on 98 octane fuel. The 10 year warranty and Mitsubishi quality really put a nail into the coffin of all the new-name Chinese brand electrics for us. Also best of all it has no ties to that gigantic twat Musk 😹
The interior quality is not better in a byd sea lion, it has a giant tablet stuck to the dashboard and no ac controls. Its cheaper just like every car made in china, but what about reliability?, the multimedia infotainment only has a 3 year warranty The shock absorbers only have 3 years warranty, this alone shows that byd does not believe in their own build quality. The chinese are very good at offering cheaper vehicles but they are cheaper for a reason, they wont hold up as long
Quite a high price tag for a brand known to offer affordable Japanese quality cars. But no other brand can toast your bread or serve as a back-up generator.
Mitsubishi outlander phev for $80000? I like the outlander and the phev version drives so good but no way would I spend that amount of money on a mitsubishi. 🤦
how crazy is it that Lexus 350H 2wd is cheaper? much better interior, much better resale value, and you can easily get 800-850 km per tank, refill about 48-49L 。
Nope the lexus 350h starts at 71,600 the outlander phev starts @ 57,290 , outlander also comes standard with awd. The $71,600 lexus does not The interior of the lexus is not nicer either
@@warcrabcyber9908 Have you sat inside the Outlander PHEV base model? Nothing compares with the base model of a Lexus. The base model of the Outlander feels like a 20-year-old car, while the base model of the Lexus NX still feels like a much more competitive product.
@dandandan3515 the outlander interior is very modern and up to date , you saying the lexus is 20 years ahead? The base lexus does not even have awd, how is that competitive?
Shame the review is so cookie cutter. Yet to see a review that includes towing and 4wd/awd capabilitities. Idiots commenting here about "cheaper" 2wds. 🙄 Get these suvs in some off road situations towing a camper /trailer and do comparisons that way. You pay for the awd, at least review the full specs of the cars & not not what 2wd ones can do...

Fork out the premium & just see how they treat you! THEY ARE DANGEROUS TO DRIVE & FAIL YOU AT THE WORST TIME(HILLS TRAFFIC ETC & BECOME UNDRIVABLE)!!!
Compared with BYD Sealion 6, this is nothing but a rip-off. At $80K price tag, still takes 9hr for DC charging!! Meaning it is only equipped with roughly 2kW DC charging!! Bought my BYD Sealion 6 and it comes with complimentary 7kW wall charger. Takes only 2.5hr to have full charge. Not to mention the dual-electric motor AWD powertrain delivering 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.9s. Much more modern exterior and interior design with better finish. Heaps more features. God bless those poor souls owning this outlander PHEV.
well there are always some dumb f out there who still think japanese goods delivery the best and in value. The chinese are way above everyone, I mean buying chinese is like paying for german engineering for peanut price. Only smart people figure that out, but dumb f as in those who watched skynews their whole life will stuck in their pathetic life spending on shitty goods!
Out of 10 reviews of the same vehicle, this one resumes it all and with clear focus and direction.

I have just a petrol asprie, I can get 900km, $25 thousand extra is a lot of money, use that for fuel for the next 10 years and go on a holiday.
Now your thinking.😅

Mitsubishi ❤️
Whats the best car for 80k. Wouldn't mind the 5 seater?
Tank 500 ultra 7 seater..high class interior. Its a 2.0l turbo petrol 😊with hybrid..4*4 wheel drive..next level features n all in for just AUD 74K.
Best car depends a lot on what capabilities you are after. I just bought a GSR the same as in this video for under $80k
