Best video of this specific job on the Internet. Additional advice: First Check that the 36mm fan nut can be loosened. If you suspect that it has been impact gunned/over torqued. Apply a 36mm socket and a medium breaker bar to the nut and rotate the front pulley (minus belt) and jam it up against the top of the engine bay, then remove the first pulley and apply a spanner or adjustable wrench to the front with a long length of bar over it and turn anticlockwise to crack the nut.
Thanks Jack...I know how to do this, but it was a good reminder while replacing my Alt, I have the same problem with my son sometimes too, but i make him work on it himself and won't do anything until he is there and ready to work. He needs to learn this shit...because I not going to be around forever.
Great thank you from Belgium !! With this video, with my brother we have change the generator and all the componements on the old to the new !! THANKS AGAIN !! :)
I just got my generator replaced on my 1600 - Although on a beachbuggy so the space was a lilbit tighter. Thankyou for the instructions! From Sweden, Scandinavia
saw how you dropped the flex/wavey washers in the fan housing so made sure to hold the fan nut and washers all together as I eased the nut off. Now I can not seem to get the "hub that the fan rides on" off the generator shaft. You mention heating it did you bake it in the over or use a touch or what?
To take the fan out you just take off the two screws or bolts. One on the left and one on the right side of the fan shroud. Then you can lift it up enough to get the fan out. It will clear the generator stand. No need to take off the manifolds.
You can usually just pry it off with two large screw drivers, if you dont have a press you can heat it with a torch and then pry it with the screwdrivers
you need to drill/bore/cut a big round hole in your bench to drop the shaft through! great video. thanks so much. do you have any tips for getting the 36mm nut/bolt off the back of the fan if it needs some persuasion? aTdHvAaNnKcSe (thanks in advance) ::{D>
when you had the gen on the table explaining the vent position you did not have the gen positioned same way that it was when you took it off. Clearly in the vid (35-40 seconds) the vent is pointed to the right. Rotate 90 degrees counter clockwise.
The look you see is wrong, many do it wrong. The bolts usually point to the right on the gen, why, because the gap in the backing plate needs to point down to help with cooling. The manuals will tell you the same thing. th-cam.com/video/mBR3gtqwZZk/w-d-xo.html
Great eye Kid ! I came here looking for that exact information. Apparently, in some manuals ... it says you rotate the generator for the winter and summer position. Thanks for seeing, and pointing that out !!!!!!! Cheers

Great video, Thanks so much
Stick a large screwdriver in one of the slots in the pulley and it will grab on the case bolt to lock it in place.
Wish his son would have showed up. One day he'll wish he did too.
why would you need to replace the generator?? is changing the brushes not enough?

Yes, they do.
I wish I had my dad around to do this with. Shame on his son
I think that everybody who watches this is at least a little ticked off at his son... how dare he make this man wait around for him to show up?
