If I wanted to do a scene where the first hero lands. then a new clip where the first hero is there, but then 2 more land. and then a new clip where 2 more land. So we end up with a team of 5 heroes having landed at different times. Any insight into the logistics of this as far as how to shoot it and use this technique?
Is there any way to make someone fly out from the frame like this? I am actually looking for someone to do it in my next short film in a surreal dream sequence. Is it possible to make someone fly away to the dark air with Fusion? How i should shoot it on set? I'd be glad if you can reply.
Thank you friend! I've been on a binge of Resolve tutorials to familiarize myself with the mechanics and features before I get a computer capable of running Resolve. You have earned a sub from me! Keep it up!
Damn thank you for this! Using this effect for my next vid and was gonna try masking it in the colour tab. Very glad I found your tutorial as doing it in fusion has provided so much more control. Also all your extra touch ups make it sell so much better. Thank you man!
My guy coming thru in the clutch once again! I'm filming a shot of my lead falling down a elevator shaft on sat. Your idea is much cheaper and looks alot better than what I was going to do. Thanks a ton!
No worries. I needed to figure out a way to do it in resolve for a low budget music video, and figured someone could find it useful. Really happy to hear it's helped keep things simple for yah.
Hi Nice vid, but after u make the fusion clip how do you make it get into media 1 and media 2 and all that stuff? Is it supposed to be done manually or automatically??
A nice and slow committed tutorial nice work thanks I want to get this software but I’m afraid it might not work on my Windows 10 Pc I only have a i7 16GB Ram DDR4 and a 1TB SDD Storage with a Nvida Graphics card
Really cool Nathan - there is a plethora of great After Effects tutorials out there that are just waiting for a clever person such as yourself to do in Fusion. I love this, but can't really think of how I would use it. I guess the same techniques could be used to jump over things, even without super powers. Nice job explaining everything.
Nice tutorial! Some tips from an animator: 1. You need to accelerate as you get closer to the camera to sell the perspective change. 2. A great trick to sell the impact is to cut out the second to the last frame before you hit, and then squash the exact frame where you do hit. Right now you feel like you are drifting to a stop, which doesn't match the impact fx.
You're totally right!. I completely spaced on editing the splines to make it more dynamic. That's what I get for rushing. Also great tip about cutting a frame. Thanks for the insights
@@NathanCarterVids Ha! Thanks. I've been debating doing some post tutorials, but people like you have it well covered. You definitely kick my ass in terms of being able to turn it on for the camera. Hopefully if I stick with it eventually I won't sound like a robot on Benadryl.
While i really like it and it's a good turorial, thanks for this! But I would like to ask, if possible, how would you make the cars move a bit when you landed, even fake window break or something to make the landing more impactful? Maybe have someone in green suit and move the cars, make 2 shots with 1 person or 1 shot with 2, moving both cars and key the green out? Thoughts anyone?
Nice video mate! Wondering would you be able to make a video explaining timeline settings (resolution, frame rates and all that stuff), project settings and few technical details like that to not face bad render qualities? It would be so nice!
Hey Nathan, I have a shot I'm working on where 3 superheroes are flying in next to each other. They all land at the same time, so this effect should work perfectly. The difficulty I'm having is I don't know how to set up the nodes to give myself the ability to create a second and third mask for the other two superheroes. Would love some guidance! Thank you!
So you'd treat each hero as its own media source. So have three versions of the landing clip and for each one focus on a specific hero. Then use merge nodes to bring em all together for the end. Hope that helps. Good luck, sounds like lots of roto work.
Hmm well I know in DaVinci's configuration guide, they recommend at least 32 GB of RAM when using fusion (16GB for the rest of resolve is fine) so I'm curious if that's causing your problem. I also don't do anything in fusion about 1080p resolution. I'm probably upgrading my computer this year actually to get more into fusion. Also I think when I recorded this I had 32GB ram, but I now have 64 and it appears to have less hiccups
@@NathanCarterVids then it might be the ram, but i have noticed that it take so long to load the files in the media when i open a project, it also lags when i use oedinary transition or color grading, anyway this video is amazing, thank you
I not entirely sure what you mean by using an adjustment clip for the dirt on camera as it's a media clip. Adjustment layers work from a top down perspective, anything underneath it on the video tracks gets affected, so the dirt is certainly shaking
My most requested effect to date. Check the description for the free assets and follow along. What do y'all want covered next?

your voice is so calming i love this tutorial
Oh thank you!
"that's really hard on your knees". great tutorial as always, Nathan. Might give this a try next time I'm at the beach. Thanks again
I had to include some Deadpool. Good luck with the effect
Great stuff. This is a humble guy providing some key tutorials here. Thanks man!
I appreciate that!
great tutorial!
The service/assets you folks provide for aspiring/indie filmmakers is truly invaluable. Gotten me out of many tight situations while editing. Thanks

Oh the almighty, Thanks a lot. I was so much waiting for it 🥲
Happy to help
For the newer people watching I recommend for the roto scope is go to runway ml and mask out yourself in like 10 seconds, hope it helps
Can you explain further?
Great narrative and to the point with it. Keep up the great work legend!

Glad you enjoyed it!
Nathan please bring VFX tutorials to Davinci! It is absolutely missing in the markets at this moment. Thank you! and keep up the great content!
I'll try my best. VFX are my weak spot for sure, but I'm trying to get better.

Hi Nathan....Great video... Effect looks awesome....Quick and easy! Thanks for the tutorial!
No worries. Thanks for watching!
My guy spawned in like a superhero only to start throwing up gang signs, whilst warning about the calorie intake of a McDonald's meal. Badass. 😂💯😎
Great tutorial! I only have the problem that the overlays i add (the broken floor) cant be moved or scaled at all, does anyone know why this is??
Hmm what type of file did you download?
@@NathanCarterVids the .mov file, but i think it is a problem with my version, i will try and update it
With the new smart masking on Resolve 18, how’d you do that?

great mate
When I do the Alt cick, the sound gets cut. What do I do?
wow, thank you so much!
Great Video... thank you
is it possible to make something not reak like a robot but realistic without a suit and for free?
I'd recommend looking into blender for something like that. You can do it, but there will be a learning curve.

That's really cool! I'll have to try to incorporate this somehow in videos. Great stuff as always!
No worries man. I'd love to see that in one of your videos.
how do i delete a polygon point? and if i delete it does that delete that track point on the other frames?
u are great
can I use the magic mask on fusion instead of rotting each clip ?
Most likely.
I will use this and your sock idea xD. I forgot my dead cat last week and I was trying to use my sweater, but a sok is way simpler xD.
Haha awesome. You work with what yah got.
For some reason putting motion blur on the merge doesn't seem to work for me. Please help

Qucksliver from X-Men, or from avengers? The X-Men effect would be quite a challenge I think.

I think it's better to use the same adjustment clip for dirt on camera, 'cause it must shake WITH camera)
