"I am Andrew St. Pierre White; I am an overland explorer and traveller". Really?! Seriously?! What Ray Mears is to survival, Andrew St. Pierre White is to adventure film and photography. You are the Big Kahuna, Andrew. Just embrace it. Own it. You're the man!
Relax, J Horton, I was joking around with Andrew. Send me an address and I'll forward you an official apology on my personal stationery along with a bouquet of wildflowers pressed in a book of poetry...
I’ve been using the BFG KM2 muddies since it was first released. Love them to death. Best tyres I’ve ever had. I run them 24/7 and wouldn’t change them. Interesting look on the tread and good to see they’ve adopted the same sidewall setup as on the KO2’s. Have done 240,000kms on the muddies.
Good luck. I know out of experience that the tyres( BFG) will be the least of your problems. Cant wait for the rest. Its watching your videos that converted me and follow with interest. Greetings from Uganda
maybe Andrew, I'm totally wrong. I think you have higher tires under your car? Not the 235/85/16 but 255/85/16. I'm curious if that's true. Am also curious how you find the km3? Thank you for testing, that helps many of us make a choice
Wow. Your truck looks SO much better with those wheels! I know it is most important to have a vehicle that works and performs like you need it to..........but if it looks awesome, so much the better!! :)
Dear Andrew while on the subject of tires, have you ever heard about the 4psi rule interms of finding the correct tire pressure for your tires on your vehicle? i got it form a mate and it goes like this: A good way of double-checking that your pressures are correct, is the 4psi rule, recommended as a good rule-of-thumb for accurate, appropriate tire pressures. Check tyres when cold and then straight after a decent highway run you should see a 4psi (0.275 bar) increase. If it is less, you have set your cold tyre pressures too high; if it is more, then you have set them too low. Adjust the cold pressures accordingly and check the results when hot again and you should have a 4psi difference. i would be interested to have your take on this. Cheers.
Just bought the km3’s fir my Jeep which weighs 4277lbs. Curb weight. The tires are, 7.50r/16e, roughly 31”’s by 7.5”’s. I put them on 16” wheels. My question is, what would a good starting psi might be adequate for traveling on gravel roads? Thank you!!!! Any information will be applied!!’
2 sets of km2 so far. High Country and outback punishment. Used pressures from 5 psi to 60 psi. Never a puncture nor a problem. BFG have got the formula correct and look forward to my first set of km3.
No tyre sipes? Or are they just wider? So I wonder what they stop like on tar. Looks like it's going to be a good mud tyre for UK conditions as we don't get much sand and rock..... Just wet clay mud!
Andrew, please make a point to address the KM3's tire weight -even perhaps in comparison to the KM2, etc. It's not often brought up but rotational weight should be a serious consideration too when buying off road tires. Certainly Mud Terrain tires are going to be among the heaviest, and for obvious reasons. Cheers
Very excited about this tire. Running 37” Ko2 on my JK and love them. Super tough and well made tires. I want to switch back to an MT tire and I think this will be it.
If you’re ever looking for a different set of rims, Method Race Wheels NV in black on the troopy would look epic mate. Race Wheels Australia in Qld are the importer.
Only ppl who care if these are quite are folks that do not use them for anything but being posers. True off roaders love the sound of an aggressive off road tire hum. To many pavement princesses out there. STOP PRETENDING seriuosly you don't look cool with a lifted clean truck... You look like a poser
Andrew, a video on your opinion of a Unimog as an overland vehicle would be really interesting. Track size (too big?). African and Australian parks entry allowed? Is it overkill? Pros and cons of having a big camper where you can get shelter for 2+ pax in the Northern Hemisphere (Alaska, Euroasia, Middle East, Northern Africa). Cheers, and great work!
Had two sets of km1s on my previous hilux, on my second set of km2s on my present double cab hilux, LOVE them had a brief spell with at2s on it when I got it, not sure if they were a different spec being a Japanese import (“grey” in the uk) but the km2s out perform them in every way. May have been due to the fact that when I bought it the shocks were completely shot, but never actually ran them once I’d lifted the truck and replaced the shocks so can’t 100% be sure it was purely the tyres, but much better on and off road on the km2s. Looking forward to your views on the new km3s. Have a great trip.
Looking good, but seem to be way more off-road tyres compared to the KO2's you have had for years. Be interesting how they run across the trip. Will they consume more fuel, will they work as well as your previous tyres on dirt roads? Like your selection of the ROH Octagon 16 x 8 wheels, that is exactly what we ordered (ours with offset zero) for our 70 series.
At first glance I thought they were Kumho MT 51's. Looking forward to compare your Ko3's with my new 51's. I bought a few months ago before I found out about the Ko3.
Unless a head to head test is done with the km2 vs km3 on the same surfaces, on the same rig, with the same air pressures its just shiny rubber and guessing the km3 does better than actual hard data.
I follow you , Ronny and Stefan now for some years, but i never saw Beadlock-Rims... Why? Aren‘t they good for low presures and you can change the tire on your own when out in the Bush?
Andrew. I get your previous points on steel wheels versus alloy. Fat versus skinny etc. but I do have to agree with you. Those new wheels look fantastic and really do finish the vehicle off. Do I remember correctly you will be using fatter tires on your return journey.? If so I’m really interested in hearing your thoughts (I’m sure we will) also shows your confidence in BF.Goodrich. The fact you’re happy to embark on such an epic trip with ‘untested’ types. Good luck and be safe
Looking forward to the longer review after 9000km as I thought I was going to get some KO2s but if the noise isn't a problem, I could be sold on some KM3s!
Does look great Andrew. I have run KMs on my Defender through version 1 and 2. The KM2 was a big improvement. Looking forwards to you review on the KM3.
I am very much looking forward to your review of these tires. My questions (which I would not expect an answer at least to the second) are how well they hold up against 'chipseal' roads (I do not know if Australia employs that technique of road construction) and how well they handle snow and ice. Still, if they survive the Australian outback, they should have a chance holding up in the depths of the Yukon Territory. My '13 JKU Rubicon came with BFGoodrich Mud Terrain TA (if memory serves) and they did much better overall than the current knockoffs that I have for summer. (I run Hankook IPike Ice studded tires for winter - fantastic on icy roads but useless in powder snow.) Best of luck with your adventure; would love to take my JKU through the depths of Australia!
How are they in the snow? I’m on my 2nd winter with a set of the old design Cooper Discoverer STT off road tires that preceded the STT Pros. Great in deep snow the first winter but the less tread they have, the more they float in slush and fresh 1-3” snow falls. 30x9.5-15 is what I have on my 2wd Ranger. My next winter tires will probably be 215-85-16 on Crown Victoria wheels.
We shouldn't buy a tyre on looks alone.....but I may make an exception with the KM3. Great looking combo Andrew. Will be interesting to hear your comments on these bad boys!
Awesome i look forward to hearing how the preform and hold up, I have KO2’s and love them but would like a bit more aggressive tire so these might be a future tire I consider putting on my vehicle
I am VERY interested in seeing the conclusion of this. I am in the market to buy some KO2s, but this may change things. I have a Tahoe which I use to pull my boat, but it's a general purpose, bad weather/off road vehicle. If the KM3s are up to the task, I'll just as easily slap on mud tires and keep it in the stable until called upon. GREAT stuff!
Your truck looks great with the new tires and wheels. Thanks to you recommendations, I use the BFG K02's on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler and love them. I think you need to test the KM3's in SNOW, that would be out of the elements not mentioned :-)
Hi Andrew. I watch every single of your videos. Great work. But.. The MT's on your last Troopy were not KM1's. They were KM2's. Look your own Video Camper Conversion.. Greets from switzerland.
Nice meaty looking tyre Andrew , be interesting to see how they perform on tarmac and gravel roads and anything else you throw at them . You should measure the tread depth to see how much they wear on your long journey . Good luck on your travels :-)
Andrew I love your content! Would really love to see 35's on your landcruiser and trust me you need them for touring up the bush but also they make your vehicles so good!
The tread pattern looks incredibly similar to the Goodyear Duratrac, allbeit chunkier. So far, I have been unimpressed with MTs on the road, in wet road conditions, and especially in snow. I've been hoping for BFG to make a nice hybrid at/mt style tire like the Duratrac, but alas, no luck.
Very interested to see the outcome of this as I build my global overland vehicle up over the next year or so. I moved from AT tyres to mud tyres a couple of years ago on my current vehicle & have to say I'm very impressed with the modern designs on the market nowadays compared to the heavy ribbed styles of yesteryear. It's worth noting that I have to use lower pressures on soft sand than with my all terrains, but for all other aspects of driving you mention, I've found them to be much better. Gravel roads with heavy corrugations, for example, running around mid 20s psi gives a far better ride, in both noise & feel, than my previous tyres at any pressure, so for your journey I think you'll really like them (as a design engineer, I believe it's the thicker, more flexible carcass dissipating the vibrations & strong sidewalls that give this sensation but interested to hear if there's other more specific reasons). Looking good & wishing you an amazing journey 👍
I reckon you're about to discover a new part of the performance envelope of your Troppy there. I'm sure the whole package will work in harmony with these wider rims and tire set up.
Wow I was waiting for this I need new tires for my jeep and I've been looking around so much make the case for BFG!!! Lmao great video as always Andrew be safe out there. So lucky:(
These looks as proper Mud Terrain but they are taking in mind everyday use. You can see that the center blocks are cutted in half. This will improve on road grip, wet grip (even slightly snow grip). Also the aggresive mud pattern is remained and they manage to make it even more aggresive than some mud tyres. Side walls looking good. So far soo good. For sand and gravel they seem they will act like mud terrain there are not much benefits there. The compound is different story ..... Seems to be one of the best Mud tyres so far with extend capabilites for everyday usage. So far seems KO2`s will be still better for everyday usage . Bud in mud all A/T`s suck :)
These look amazing. I'm curious as to how well they do in snow though. I live in the midwestern United States. Love mud tires, but I'd rather run one set of tires as apposed to swapping them out depending on the season.
Road noise is apart of owning a mud tyre, tho my goodyear duratracs are quieter than some ats I have driven and beleive they are the quietest mt on the market (km2s are pretty quiet too)
Can anyone direct me to his review of the KM3's? I've searched the channel and watched the "Crossing Australia - Twice" playlist and couldn't find it. I was wondering what his experience was before I buy some for my 4Runner.
I work 56 hrs a week. $120K last year. Still can’t afford all this 4x4 stuff on my Tacoma. How the heck does this guy have the money or time for this???!!! This dude has a dream job.
Andrew nice to meet you in Melbourne , in interested to know the weight difference between the steel and alloy wheels also the tyres look in between a/t and mud
I run the BFG MT’s on my Jeep and have found that they wear funny. I have wheel aligned, replace hub ball joints, etc. They have gotten quite heavy and loud and when asking around there are a few others in my Jeep community with the same challenge, which sucks because I love the beefy look of the tire and off road performance! Has anyone else had this problem?
Didn't get 12000 km's out of mine on a Ford Ranger. Either not balanced right by the dealer or just not durable. Only about 4000 km's of that is off road on Dirt and sand and very little mud. The knobs have worn very unevenly and they now make a horrendous noise
Those tires indeed look good. I’m definitely considering them for my next tires. They look great on your rig as well. Are you still planning on overlanding the USA in the near future?
"I am Andrew St. Pierre White; I am an overland explorer and traveller". Really?! Seriously?! What Ray Mears is to survival, Andrew St. Pierre White is to adventure film and photography. You are the Big Kahuna, Andrew. Just embrace it. Own it. You're the man!
Fernweh Vacilando You mean he knows what he’s talking about?
Some folks are new to overlanding and might not have discovered AStPW. Plus it doesn't sound arrogant that way.
Relax, J Horton, I was joking around with Andrew. Send me an address and I'll forward you an official apology on my personal stationery along with a bouquet of wildflowers pressed in a book of poetry...
It didn't bother me, just giving another view point.
It didn't bother me either, but can I still sign up for that book??
Andrew, you are the only one on TH-cam that 'tests' a tire by driving it thousands of miles on all terrains in the middle of nowhere. I love it
Ronny Dahl also refuses to do a tire review until he has done several thousand kilometers.
yeah i actually forgot about that. well these two guys are definitely in the minority for tire reviews like that
Ive been looking at these every day for about three years now. I’m glad we are finally releasing them for the market.
The David Attenborough of the 4x4 world haha
Good luck. I know out of experience that the tyres( BFG) will be the least of your problems. Cant wait for the rest. Its watching your videos that converted me and follow with interest. Greetings from Uganda
Super exciting... what a test! And we get to follow it closely. This is what the expedition TH-cam genre can offer. Thanks
maybe Andrew, I'm totally wrong. I think you have higher tires under your car? Not the 235/85/16 but 255/85/16. I'm curious if that's true. Am also curious how you find the km3? Thank you for testing, that helps many of us make a choice
BFG needs to bring back the original mud TA in all the sizes they once made. That was the greatest all around off road tire ever mass produced.
Completely transforms the look of the truck. Black wheels and chunky rubber for the win
Wow. Your truck looks SO much better with those wheels! I know it is most important to have a vehicle that works and performs like you need it to..........but if it looks awesome, so much the better!! :)
I'm Canadian and the only place in the world I'd love to visit is Australia! One day, one day!

All the best for your trip Andrew... Those tires look awesome.... makes the truck really stand out...

What size did you go for? These look wider than the 235’s that were fitted previously.
It's a BFG so it'll be good. One thing I've noticed with BFG is as they age the compound gets harder and they get noisy. Curious to see how these are.
2 sets of km2 so far. High Country and outback punishment. Used pressures from 5 psi to 60 psi. Never a puncture nor a problem.
BFG have got the formula correct and look forward to my first set of km3.
Mud Tire technology has greatly improved in last few years. Now, many companies offered mud tires with +50k miles ranges
No tyre sipes? Or are they just wider? So I wonder what they stop like on tar. Looks like it's going to be a good mud tyre for UK conditions as we don't get much sand and rock..... Just wet clay mud!

Very excited about this tire. Running 37” Ko2 on my JK and love them. Super tough and well made tires. I want to switch back to an MT tire and I think this will be it.
Finally a KM that looks like it's tough enough for all conditions. I think longevity will be a key factor. And reasonable noise is OK.
The rig looks great with those mags. Good choice.
If you’re ever looking for a different set of rims, Method Race Wheels NV in black on the troopy would look epic mate. Race Wheels Australia in Qld are the importer.
If the KM3 is quiet and good on that western aggregate then, I reckon you've backed a winner. They do look like they can take an absolute belting. :-)
Only ppl who care if these are quite are folks that do not use them for anything but being posers. True off roaders love the sound of an aggressive off road tire hum. Wow Andrew your looking as good as those tyres have you been working out safe travels
Your Land Cruiser looks fantastic with the new wheels and tyres on, but how are you getting your old ones back home?
Had two sets of km1s on my previous hilux, on my second set of km2s on my present double cab hilux, LOVE them had a brief spell with at2s on it when I got it, not sure if they were a different spec being a Japanese import (“grey” in the uk) but the km2s out perform them in every way. Well, I can't wait to hear more about the overall performance of these tyres, Especially regarding road wear and fuel economy.

At first glance I thought they were Kumho MT 51's. Looking forward to compare your Ko3's with my new 51's. I bought a few months ago before I found out about the Ko3.
i live in florida where the dirt roads are sugar sand,, how would these work over here?
don't know if you have discussed it in another video. but what is your take on beadlocks? yes/no?
I didn't see this coming! Glad you made this video and finely a sidewall I love.
Unless a head to head test is done with the km2 vs km3 on the same surfaces, on the same rig, with the same air pressures its just shiny rubber and guessing the km3 does better than actual hard data.
Hehe that rig does look menacingly good now. Looking forward to this.
I follow you , Ronny and Stefan now for some years, but i never saw Beadlock-Rims...
Why?
Aren‘t they good for low presures and you can change the tire on your own when out in the Bush?

Thanks Mike.
I was watching another video and this popped up. First watch and yessssss bfg
I did a similar trip last year (going westward) with Cooper at3 so will be good to see how your experience differs
how do they smell though
Looking forward to the longer review after 9000km as I thought I was going to get some KO2s but if the noise isn't a problem, I could be sold on some KM3s!

I just upgraded from the bf all terrains and naught the hankook mt tires. I must say they are quite but I do like these
What about an All-Terrain version? Is there one in the works?
Those wheels and tires look super nice on the rig.
If the tire performance is as good as the look then they have an amazing tire!
Can't wait!
Excellent video, and excellent review my friend!
Awesome i look forward to hearing how the preform and hold up, I have KO2’s and love them but would like a bit more aggressive tire so these might be a future tire I consider putting on my vehicle
Hope your enjoying your time in Aus.
Looking forward to seeing how the KM3 performs during your trip!
Can't wait to see the result! I'm looking to change over from my KO2s to either the Grabber ATX or KM3s to try something else out.
Dear Andrew, What size did you pick for your LC79?
The KO2's wore out quickly because they put silicone in the mix, so I've heard. I wonder if it's the same with these.
Where is the second video?? i have to see the on road impression
I'm super keen to see how they go!
Really looking forward to your impressions of them in sand.
Did you trade in your old tyres there, or do they ship them home to you?
The tread pattern looks incredibly similar to the Goodyear Duratrac, allbeit chunkier. So far, I have been unimpressed with MTs on the road, in wet road conditions, and especially in snow. I've been hoping for BFG to make a nice hybrid at/mt style tire like the Duratrac, but alas, no luck.

So lucky:(
Do these tyres have a snowflake on the side wall?
Nice tire. Looks like a good tire for the Pacific Northwest of the US.
Whats the price like? My KM2 33" x 10.5 x 15 where say $350 and the KM3's are??
These look amazing. I'm curious as to how well they do in snow though. I live in the midwestern United States. Love mud tires, but I'd rather run one set of tires as apposed to swapping them out depending on the season.
Road noise is apart of owning a mud tyre, tho my goodyear duratracs are quieter than some ats I have driven and beleive they are the quietest mt on the market (km2s are pretty quiet too)
Cannot wait to see how these perform. I may hold out on that set of Toyos I was going to buy.
Can anyone direct me to his review of the KM3's? I've searched the channel and watched the "Crossing Australia - Twice" playlist and couldn't find it. I was wondering what his experience was before I buy some for my 4Runner.
Looks great, looking forward to the test, will you and the KM3 be at the overland expo this year?
Sure looks great.
Andrew are they made in America? How’s it?
Great looking tiyre let see what they capable off.......
Wonder how those would do in snow?? Looking fwd to that 9k kilometer test.👍
Finally you changed those rims, car looks great now!
Great looking tire, I m really interested in sand performance and road noise vs km2, that I love!
Yes!!! Can't wait.
Like always great fun video👍👌
I work 56 hrs a week. $120K last year. Still can’t afford all this 4x4 stuff on my Tacoma. How the heck does this guy have the money or time for this???!!! This dude has a dream job.
Andrew nice to meet you in Melbourne , in interested to know the weight difference between the steel and alloy wheels also the tyres look in between a/t and mud
Tires look awesome!
Has anyone else had this problem?
good luck with your trip andrew

"I am Andrew St. Pierre White; I am an overland explorer and traveller". And I was paid good money to say good things about BFG, my sponsor.
Oh shoot-yeah I'll be buying those asap
Those tires indeed look good. I’m definitely considering them for my next tires. They look great on your rig as well. Are you still planning on overlanding the USA in the near future?
