  • Following the first look at BFGoodrich's new mud tire, the April 2018 press launch in Australia. These are my first impressions after a week driving the new tire. I have been told that the new BFGoodrich KM3 is due for release for sale in June/July beginning in the USA and Australia. Other countries will soon follow.
    #bfgighcountry #bfgkm3
    Please don't ask me what sizes will be available, and when. I do not work for BFG and so I do not know.

      PerthEnduro i bet there is going to be mud involved, Australia isnt as dry as they say. The only environment he can't find is snow and cold and we all know that mud terain tyres suck in the snow. Or are you volunteering to do a better job ?

      PerthEnduro wow, interesting. We always tough austria is this hot wasteland full of things that want to kill you. There is a nice Australian channel called cross traning enduro skills and they mostly ride in nice forests, mud and so on, looks fun. Do you have any idea what region would be like that?

    How can we trust the opinions of those journalists or ‘influencers’ after watching that? Had no idea the level of freebies and parties the 4x4 industry throws for them- helicopters, booze, food, shows. Impossible to be unbiased if they want to be invited back again. Makes it tough for us at home trying to research it all.

    • @4xoverland
      @4xoverland  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So you are suggesting they should not be looked after well? I think you should give these journalists more credit. Would YOUR opinion be bought by being pampered for a few days?

    • @brothergilbert
      @brothergilbert 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      No, that’s not what I’m suggesting. But I do think those journalists will think twice before writing anything negative or risk being cut out of the fun by BFG in future. People generally don’t bite the hand that feeds. There is a reason journalists in other fields declare all freebies and why we appreciate your independence on most other topics Andrew.

    Swapped out my 285/75 16" KO2's a couple of days ago and went with the 255/85 16" 'skinny' KM3's .. I did a bit of research on these tires and was a bit worried that they would be loud .. not the case .. no louder then the KO2's. I was told that the one downside is that they don't handle as well on ice! I live in Tucson,AZ .. don't think I'll have to test that. Your testing and presentation on the 'skinny' sold me .. so thanks!

      @@cengo91 I did get the KM3 tires. I’ve had them for going on 4 years now and I really like them. I’ve only ever gotten stuck in a snow bank in all my adventures. That being said my biggest complaint is how poor the traction is in snow. I learned my lesson and I got another set of wheels I’m going to rotate KO2s in during winter. I rotate the KM3s religiously and they still have half tread after 4 years of use while my friend has gone through 4 sets of Milestar Patagonias in the same time. (I don’t think he rotates them very often) I’m really happy with them and will definitely buy them again.

      Yup just another sell out, gets big enough and starts getting paid to influence people to buy certain products. Can't trust them and then they get all defence trying to claim that they are not like that but come on it is so obvious. Everything kitted out with sponsorship instead of an honest review and then they have mainly Hilux and Ranger so all the idiots who own those vehicles go buy these tyres. This is a bullshit commercial.

      There was no real review in this video but? He even said himself his review will come when hes finished crossing east to west which is a pretty damn decent test any way you look at it. Can't hate a guy or call him a sellout for putting in many years of hard work and being offered an opportunity to test out new products! Pretty sure in previous videos he tells you hes personally bought bf Goodrich tyres for years.. and usually runs skinnys on steel rims so is curious about how alloys with wider tyres will go.

    Looking forward to the final assessment! Great journey for reviewing tyres (or anything 4x4).
    Disappointed to not see a mud circuit set up for trialling...in fact from that footage my summer Toyo A/T’s do harsher travel every day on my farm....in autumn (I can’t wear them out in time for winter M/T’s)!
    Having said that, can you imagine the cost of scratching all those pretty paint jobs? Or bent panels or pitman arms? Nah, keep it mundane therefore safe.
    Which leads me back to my first comment about a transnational test being rigorous enough for a valid comment.

      BFG wanted rain for the launch. But it didn't come. Its normally a very muddy place.

    Ok mud tyres, sure nice if you like mud but the more important question what happened to the second car you mentioned a few months back

    I’ve always liked bfgoodrich tyres and have had several sets, but recently have experienced some quality issues with cracking on the shoulders and problems balancing, with a couple of reasonably new tyres requiring a lot of weight to be added to achieve acceptable balance! Do you know of any change in manufacturing that may explain this and do you think the quality may be better with this new Km3? It would seem I’m not the only one noticing a slip in quality with the tyre shop I use getting a lot of people with similar problems

    Hi Andrew, we’re there any punctures during the launch or is it all kept hush hush. (Punctures obviously happen to every tyre, even new).

      No tyre issues of any kind, 23 vehicles, driving for 12 days off-road all day. And mostly with limited or no off-road experience.

    Cross between Ko2 All terrain and ko2 Mud terrain = Ko3 Mud. I wonder what the Ko3 All terrain looks like, if there will be one. Hope not the reverse of Ko3 Mud, the side wall of the Ko2 Mud and foot print of All terrain. Hmmm..just saying.

    The KM3 tread pattern looks tighter (less voids) than the the KM2. I do like the look of it a lot! Resembles an aggressive all terrain in my opinion.
    Andrew - I really really hope your findings are this is a mud terrain that ticks more practical usage boxes than ever before, and that the aggressive all terrain tyre market has a new contender for their hard earned $$.
    I want you to tell me horray- it works in sand at 15 psi.....good on the gravel and is no noiser than a cooper ST MAXX on the hwy..........

      but if the tire does all that, then it should be labelled "AT", and not "MT". and it's not a test if there isn't all sorts of mud involved. otherwise it's a test on "how the MT performs in everything but mud".

    Didn't get 12000 km's out of mine on a Ford Ranger. Either not balanced right by the dealer or just not durable. Only about 4000 km's of that is off road on Dirt and sand and very little mud. The knobs have worn very unevenly and they now make a horrendous noise
