You guys are tempting me hard. My initial plan was to live in Manila because my kids will need to take two exams per year in our embassy, but seeing how well you live in CDO and how dirt cheap are flights, I don't know anymore. I guess I'll need to make a three-month exploratory travel beforehand!
Nice video, the excitement and positivity in both your tones is so catching, makes me feel like taking a plane and come there again. Could you cover what kind of local travel to other locations like Baguio, Coron etc you do and how do you go about doing this without a car? Do you go through a travel operator or rent a car? What kind of budget should one consider for about 2 trips a month away from home base for a husband wife and couple other family members who we take with us?
The US dollar is high right now but the Philippines has or is considering in ditching the dollar as the reserve currency and going to BRICS.. So I am wondering if that happens, will it have an effect on the buying power of the US dollar.
Dear Chrissy and Rob - another interesting topic, who doesn't want more bang for their buck. But the prices are one thing, the infrastructure is another. I, for my part, have reached an age where I really appreciate everything working 100% around me all the time. I'm also not good at things that crawl around on floors and walls :-) Best regards from Denmark😂😂
WOW i over budgeted im 48 a retired Aussie male and thought it was much more expensive for running a house ill be coming next February and travelling to lots of islands for 3 month's to really see if its my kinda of place i 0want to live on a great beach with a dock cos im going to buy a boat to go fishing alot and i wont be looking for a wife either im happier alone with these prices i can really live the high life with no stress at all on money cant wait for February
I imagine prices will start moving up, though, with all the wealthy foreigners arriving in the Philippines. I recently visited Dumaguete and I saw the numbers for myself.
23:00 "The men just wear T-shirt shorts and sandals". That's all I wear because I live in Hawaii. I'm not rich on US standards in any means, but my house is worth at least 1.3 mil, plus I have a decent amount in retirement investments. Do I cash out and go to the Philippines?
I would have to say that you are the richest guy in the world to capture the heart of Chrissy sorry if I spelled It wrong but all the money in the world does not compare to her beauty and personality. Money is not as important to me as finding someone as good as her and as pretty as her. I am trying to make a trip and find someone as beautiful as Chrissy might be hard there but as close as I can get to her. Thank you for all your effort. Best wishes to both of you.
I have $3K per month SS and more than $200K saved and, at age 66, I think it is enough. I could earn some money online, as well, but guessing not necessary. Stay well. AJ
Will things always be this way? Currencies fluctuate and it would be wise to budget for a Peso/USD rise which could leave you having less to work with than anticipated. If P.I. ever opens it's economy to foreign investment you would likely see historic levels of inflation materialize.
I’m a realtor from the United States and I’m moving overseas. My question is what kind of income do you have to support yourself besides Social Security? Do you have real estate rentals or did you sell everything and put in stock market or T bills or CDs?
We’ve had a few budget videos, which we share our expenses with great detail however, other than my Social Security pension and my corporate pension, I don’t reference my other sources of income. We’re ready to do another budget video soon.
Because of the very hot weather in Cebu there is a water shortage. Many Expats are having to buy water to be delivered. Sounds like CDO is a very nice. Although Expats are usually men retiring women could also feel very rick in PI. Allot of very nice PI men.
I've been watching you two for a while now and love the videos. I have a question. We're usually talking about older guys coming to the Philippines and sooner or later they die. Do they usually have a pre-arrangement to have their body shipped back home to be buried, or do they choose to be buried in the Philippines?
Chrissy‘s family lives five hours south. It’s not the best place for a foreigner in Central Mindanao. And another Vlogger had rated Cdo as the number one place to live for Expats.
Rob and Chrissy, you ask about career ideas for Chrissy. It seems in my mind she is already there with her certifications and education. I think as much as teaching English pays in most countries in Southeast Asia, that she could get quite a client list as a teacher teaching English. Unless I'm wrong learning English is a serious commodity for much of Southeast Asia and Pace Bank. From what I hear. My sources are teachers from Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand. So maybe there's still a real market for online education that you could start your own website and even advertise that on TH-cam
Great Video! Thank you for the information! May I ask where do you living in the Philippines? The place you are renting looks beautiful. Hopefully will be there in less than a year! Keep up the videos!
Rob an Chrissy, Do you know what the ONE topic that has never been discussed {or} brought up in the past?? Its the history of the phils. Does anyone know why the Illiconos are north an Visayan are in the south? Does anyone know what Polowan was used for during the control of Spain? Maybe it would be a topic? I think it would. Because there is a specific reason why the tribes are spread out. Best wishes..
You have already encouraged me. I have just booked accommodation for January next year. I look forward to hearing your tips from your journey. Thank you
Well, everyone is different and you can't please everyone. I will definitely learn a lot from your next videos. But for an exploratory visit like mine, first of all it would be useful to know whether to rely only on credit/debit cards and withdraw cash. Or maybe it's worth bringing some euros in my case and exchanging them on the spot.
Only bring €200 in cash and rely on a debit card and a credit card that you keep locked up in the hotel safe get a second debit card that has no foreign transaction fees and has a small balance when you leave to go outside in case you lose it
Filipino are real travellers ..I’m amazed that they are always scooting around to different locations whether on day trips or visiting family etc. My fiancée is the same age and she’s a real adventurer. I taught her drive a year ago and she loves driving around ..she know realises the freedom transport gives you personally. It depends on your location but before we lived in Manila so we just used grab etc. No we live in Subic freeport ..ya defo need transport for shopping, the gym and touring. Insurance is really strange in the phil’s as although it’s not cheap for a nice car ..it’s on the car and not on the level of the person driving it etc. Ie I have three cars ..one was 9 million and you pay anybody can drive it insurance ..so my fiancée can drive it with limited experience.
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines Most secondhand cars have Uber mileage here..if ya can afford best just to buy a new one if ya can afford it..especially Chinese brands are great value and fords are priced reasonably but if your European don’t think about owning the likes of a Porsche or a Maclaren they are 2-3 times the cost of the west.
Interesting video. But flying around Asia at those prices is flying with budget Airlines Like Cebu Pacific, Jetstar , Air Asia or Scoot. Scheduled full service airlines will be double that price you mentioned.
Have a question. I enjoy your content and your clear delivery. Specially in this video you sound like you really want to sell the Ph experience. Is there a specific reason for that? I am from the US but now I live half in Europe and half in the US but will be less in the US in the future. Thanks

I am on the central coast of California (Monterey, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach) and am planning on making a month long exploratory trip to the Philippines late 2025. I have several concerns about retiring there and first and foremost is the hot and humid weather. Where I live near the ocean and average day is 70F and there is zero sticky high humidity. I’ve been researching slightly higher elevations with cooler climates. Baguio sounded good but it appears to be absolutely jam packed with people which would rule it out for me. If you visit there I’d love to get your thoughts about the weather (might be too cold and rainy), internet quality and the overcrowding especially in the summertime. Great video! CDO is now on my list and for larger cities I really like Davao City over Cebu for several reasons.
Hello so you saying that $1800 is okay in the Philippines. What about if I have $3500 per month is that enough for me and my girlfriend I was wondering since people said that's too little for staying in cebu.
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines Oh wow okay i see thought it would not be. I will be in cebu for maybe 1 or 2 years then branch out to Iloilo. I hear some crazy budgets like foreingners saying you need $5k 7k or even 10k. SO will $3.5k be enough for a family of 5 3 children and 2 aldults i am a youger guy so i will have children of my own.
It depends on how much you need to budget for housing. Many Expats are happy spending US$350-US$500 per month on housing for two or three bedroom home very few spend more than US$650 per month on rent so you can take it from there is less expensive transportation less expensive less expensive everything is pretty much less expensive except consumer goods like computers and televisions.
Rob, love the videos and good information. Wondering if you do any downloadable documents on banking and financial management between US earnings and Philippines living? PDF files with recommended info from your videos to use for planning to make the move??
Please share which areas in Mindanao besides Davao City that are safe for foreigners. I am considering cooler areas such as Lake Sebu, Malaybalay City, Lantapan, and Kidapawan City. Please share if you consider these areas safe. Thank you.

A foreigner. Can't not own property in the Philippines ! Land lease only. My advice is. Take a couple weeks. And go there. Prepare for culture shock. Beautiful islands. Beautiful ladies. And don't go there. Thinking your smarter then they are ! Don't think your going to get a job there. Or any kind of side hussle. Just retire 😊
Dang.. I may be conferring with you soon. My retirement income from about 4 pensions alone will allow me to live the dream life there. What is the email address to use to schedule a consult. I am retired USN as well and can maybe take advantage of the VA system there?

The ribeye steak is a bit pricey at Cuesta Roccia, but that is expected without a large beef industry, like in the U.S. Every place has its trade offs, and I shouldn't be eating lots of red meat anyway. 😁
Electricity is comparably expensive in the phil’s. But ya win on local taxes by a million miles…we live in a freeport with high level of security probably the highest in the phil’s. Ie subic bay freeport and our local tax per month is 1000 peso per month ..that’s for two general waste collections per week and garden refuge once a a week. Ps highest police presence I’ve seen in the phil’s ..with guards etc.
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines It’s more regimented especially the driving rules within the freeport, stop and go and confusing signage ..radar guns blah blah. But when your locals they generally let you off..they are scamming the tourists coming off the toll road and you generally have to pass through the freeport to go further north into Zambales beaches and mountainous regions.
Because they have work or Family Working overseas, or they are some of the Rich / well connected Familys in the Country. Many buys 2 or more Condos for investment and hire them out, when finished.
My monthly income of 1.2 million pesos would be considered fairly wealthy in the Philippines. In my high cost of living area, it’s not that much money. Pretty average, perhaps even low for some people. Too bad I can’t take my job to the Philippines and live there! 😅
Best authority I can find for 2024 > rent is 86% cheaper -- and -- food is 53% cheaper - in the Philippines compared to the US. -- That equates to about 70% cheaper than the US !!! --- The 2 most expensive typical monthly expenses. -?- I personally want to buy a tuk tuk for my personal transportation -- which will also be tremendously cheaper than a car in the US. --- Hard to believe the lifestyle "tradeoff" you can have -- IF -- you can stay healthy ! If you have any serious issues - you will need a lot of $ to pay for it yourself - even with insurance. And if your over 70 years old - no one will likely insure you at all !!!!!! Not exactly sure, but my estimate is 500,000 USD or more. There are some homes close to the main road selling for 17 million Philippine pesos, but this property is bigger and on a prime lot.
Only issues I am having is how to have access to my VA and SS retirement. Need to figure out how to pay bills and have a few debit cards to insure access. Would love a bank institution that I can use both in the USA and PH.

Hey guys.. ok, done watching the video, first must tell you, you are one of my favorite xpat channels. Can i ask few questions about subject of money?? ok, i come from Europe, Slovenia, and i found myself a beautiful girl from Lapu Lapu city.. i intend a first visit in december this year for 40 days.. the question is would like 2000€ be enough for that time? (not including apartment and a car rental).. that is like 50€ per day. My girl is, can i say.. not high maintenance and i think for exploring the islands and having a good time with a little budgeting 2000€ would do for 2 people for 40 days. what are your thoughts? When im there maybe we can also get some coffee if you'll have the time, i would really be honored to meet you. 😋😋.. And .. thank you for the videos, it is really nice to see both of your daily routines, so keep it up.
Yes, I think that’s doable. You should check out our video on the 30 day exploration. We give three different budgets. You’ll get a sense of what daily living expenses will be if you’re gonna move around a lot it’ll increase your expenses, but I think it’s very dual and we’d love to meet you
@@FlyMeToThePhilippines 👍thank you for your answer. Thing is, i intend to make lapu lapu like "base of operations 😋" i already booked smaller apartment an a car there, so primary explorations would be Cebu island.. Plans are to do some travels and go out of Philippines for a day or two so we (me and my girl) get some photos of us being together travelling so later next year i can get her to europe to visit me (i heard it is easier i a couple is traveling together and you can prove it to officials). I guess a week would be to visit like 2 other locations / islands. So that would be "the expensive part", but other time .. like 30 days we would be more or less local to Lapu Lapu and around. Hey, about coffee.. it's a deal, expect an email when in december. 😁😁 and thank you for your answer above. Best Regards, Sebastian.

Could you cover what kind of local travel to other locations like Baguio, Coron etc you do and how do you go about doing this without a car? Do you go through a travel operator or rent a car? What kind of budget should one consider for about 2 trips a month away from home base for a husband wife and couple other family members who we take with us?
Thanks! 😃
The US dollar is high right now but the Philippines has or is considering in ditching the dollar as the reserve currency and going to BRICS.. So I am wondering if that happens, will it have an effect on the buying power of the US dollar.
Since China is the defacto leader of BRICS and security concerns center on China I don’t see it happening anytime soon

I imagine prices will start moving up, though, with all the wealthy foreigners arriving in the Philippines. I recently visited Dumaguete and I saw the numbers for myself.
Foreigners have definitely had an impact on Dumaguete, however a bigger city like Cdo or IloIlo not likely as much or too soon
Baguio! I would love to hear your perspective and another what did it cost. Lol! Here in the West we never get tired of hearing what's possible.

Will things always be this way? Currencies fluctuate and it would be wise to budget for a Peso/USD rise which could leave you having less to work with than anticipated. If P.I. ever opens it's economy to foreign investment you would likely see historic levels of inflation materialize.
Good point
I’m a realtor from the United States and I’m moving overseas. My question is what kind of income do you have to support yourself besides Social Security? Do you have real estate rentals or did you sell everything and put in stock market or T bills or CDs?
We’ve had a few budget videos, which we share our expenses with great detail however, other than my Social Security pension and my corporate pension, I don’t reference my other sources of income. We’re ready to do another budget video soon.

What are the political views of the average Filipino
Honestly I don’t know and like it that way. They only seem focused 6 weeks before elections
Because of the very hot weather in Cebu there is a water shortage. Many Expats are having to buy water to be delivered. Sounds like CDO is a very nice. Although Expats are usually men retiring women could also feel very rick in PI. Allot of very nice PI men.
Thanks for sharing Yes, we are having a heat wave for the last three weeks here and there’s been some water interruption and Cdo also.
Great video Rob and Chrissy. Are there available places for rent in your area similar to what you have?
Not in my subdivision but many near by gated communities
I've been watching you two for a while now and love the videos. I have a question. We're usually talking about older guys coming to the Philippines and sooner or later they die. Do they usually have a pre-arrangement to have their body shipped back home to be buried, or do they choose to be buried in the Philippines?
🤔
What made you settle down there?
Also, I don't know where the the bank comment came from. My auto spell is really stupid right now

try Thailand and Bali, so much better and ideal for Westerners.
Perhaps, however, no Filipinos in those countries

I think the word affluent would be a more appropriate term. Which you’ve described is an affluent lifestyle, not a rich lifestyle per se.
You may be correct
Rob an Chrissy, Do you know what the ONE topic that has never been discussed {or} brought up in the past??
Its the history of the phils. Does anyone know why the Illiconos are north an Visayan are in the south? Does anyone know what Polowan was used for during the control of Spain? Maybe it would be a topic? I think it would. Because there is a specific reason why the tribes are spread out. Best wishes..
Thanks, Allen. I’m a history buff and I like the suggestion. Let me think about it and research whether it has a chance of getting decent views.
You have already encouraged me. I have just booked accommodation for January next year. I look forward to hearing your tips from your journey. Thank you
Awesome thanks for the feedback. Let me know how we can help.
Only bring €200 in cash and rely on a debit card and a credit card that you keep locked up in the hotel safe get a second debit card that has no foreign transaction fees and has a small balance when you leave to go outside in case you lose it
Medical costs, the quality of care, and the availability, is the major concern for me.
Yes perhaps Davao?
Thanks for watching our videos and sharing your comment about cars and car insurance. Very interesting.

Davao is very interesting
@JimMillsCSLC- considering where you live in California, you probably won't like the heat and high humidity.
Hello so you saying that $1800 is okay in the Philippines. What about if I have $3500 per month is that enough for me and my girlfriend I was wondering since people said that's too little for staying in cebu.
It’s enough to stay in Cebu and it’s plenty just about anywhere in the Philippines, other than Makati or BGC

The ribeye steak is a bit pricey at Cuesta Roccia, but that is expected without a large beef industry, like in the U.S. Every place has its trade offs, and I shouldn't be eating lots of red meat anyway. 😁

What do you pay per kilowatt hour for electricity?
11.93 pesos pkw
@FlyMeToThePhilippines not too bad, so that's about 21 cents. In Florida we pay 16 cents
Sounds interesting. I haven’t been to Subic Bay yet
Please go to Baguio 😊
Thanks for the suggestion
Why?
Such low wages, how do the local Filipino buy some of the houses 10mil and up?
Because they have work or Family Working overseas, or they are some of the Rich / well connected Familys in the Country. Many buys 2 or more Condos for investment and hire them out, when finished.
There is an entrepreneur class here not much of a middle management class but entrepreneurs who own businesses, restaurants, tire, shops, etc.
My monthly income of 1.2 million pesos would be considered fairly wealthy in the Philippines. In my high cost of living area, it’s not that much money. Pretty average, perhaps even low for some people. Too bad I can’t take my job to the Philippines and live there! 😅
😩
(Or if they do the premium will be unaffordable.) --- Just so you know the rest of the story. > They don't value human life over $ like in the US. If you can't pay in advance they will let you die !!!!!!!!! -- -- -- '''Now you know the rest of the story''' - as Paul Harvey used to say...... Good day. -- -- -- And 'good luck'.
I think you make a good point a tuck tuck seems to be a very affordable and reasonable way to get around locally

Hey guys.. ok, done watching the video, first must tell you, you are one of my favorite xpat channels.
