    immobiliser failure was a big problem for the 790 as well. Happened on mine and needed all rewiring with a new loom on warranty. Tends to go hand in hand with cornering ABS failure too which is fun :| I'm swapping my 790 for the Street Triple, just for the reliability.

      I have a 2020 Street Triple RS and it has been flawless for over 7500 miles in put on it already! Fantastic bike but the Bluetooth module isn't the greatest but it will get better with time. The only real problem I've had is a small oil weep on the right engine case but that will be covered by warranty to fix it over the winter when I can't ride. I had a 2013 before that and it was great, one of my favorite bikes out there and all my friends that have rode it wish they haven't because now they want one lol

    • @ShezzerNator175
      @ShezzerNator175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brentcameron4494 You pay for the “Performance package” aka plug it into a computer and it activates. I see your struggling with this one. Imagine buying a house with a room that’s completely locked. You can have the House for this much but if you want this extra room it will cost you an extra ‘x’ amount. The house already has the room so chances are you’re going to pay the ‘x’ amount regardless of how much it is. It’s a psychological sales tactic. You can’t just buy an aftermarket quick shifter, you have to buy the “package” with all the other electronic aids for a higher overall price. Triumph give you 3 options for the bike, that only come with what you pay for.

    The Triumph has the unfortunate 'issue' of having a bit too long of gearing. You two were talking about how lethargic it feels, and I have to agree, on my 2019 ST-RS it felt the same on stock gearing, it always took a bit to get up in revs. However, all of that changed when I put a 15 tooth front sprocket on it. Feels like the bike was originally designed with that sprocket in mind. Always ready to go now, no lag.

    Last year I had a test ride with Duke790R and it didn't feel like a well put bike. The engine was too aggressive, whenever you touch the throttle it was pulling right away but also when you leave the throttle engine compression making it feel like you are hard breaking all the time. The throttle was like an ON/OFF button which you definitely don't want it when you are cornering.
    Even though I raced motocross and supermoto which I enjoyed that torque of a 1 cylinder, I didn't like the Duke as a street naked. I think KTM still has this DNA of a motocross bike which is more like boxing where it focuses on explosive power delivery. I think road racing and street performance is more like ballet. It's more about smooth movement and precision. That's why I bought Street Triple S last year and I love that machine a lot. The powerband is smooth in every rev, it sounds amazing, corners amazing, material quality amazing and most importantly it's not a machine constantly wants to kill you, its a machine cooperates with you to go further faster.

    Its hard to choose. Pretty sure both bikes are great. However i feel like the striple *R* is the bike to get.... Unless you are a very hardcore rider or doing a lot of trackriding the fully adjustable Showas will be more than enough... I have ridden multiple bikes and i could not care less for a lack of tft dash...you also get the buttery smooth QS up/down which in my way works better than the one on KTMs. And all this for 8900. A simple exhaust mod will get you back the few ponnies missing from factory... Only my thoughts .. nice review!

    I really want to buy an 890R, but I just can't do it until KTM fixes their electronics issues. All the modes and settings should be saved when turning the bike off and on, and I don't want to see all the damn dash faults, check engine lights, etc. Until they get that sorted, I can't justify owning one. One thing they didn't touch on is fuel economy. I don't buy a bike for it & don't really care, but the difference between these is massive. I got no lower than 59/60mpg out of my 890R, no matter how I rode it (saw 80+ on more than one occasion on steady 70mph motorway runs). The Triumph averages mid-high 40s & the best I've ever seen is 55mpg on a steady motorway run. An odd, unexpected benefit of the KTM...

    Think Choice would also come to aesthetics. KTM's looks can be divisive (I like them, though I think the Street Triple is as good looking in its own way). Engine characteristics matter too. If you're used to dirt bikes, supermotos, and twins cyls in general, the KTM is an engine you'll be familiar with, having lots of torque all the way from the bottom, while the 3 cyl engine of the Triumph is a bit more like a supersport 600cc bike. I mostly owned ZX-6R and one R6 most my life, and a 2014 Street Tripe R, which was similar in a way to thZX-6R/R6. KTMs are different creatures, though. If It was my money (and it is right now, since ssaid Street Triple got ran over by a truck in a parking lot =( ) the 890 Duke R is what I may get (While I would not and did not get the 790 DUke in the past)
