    I'm fortunate enough to have owned both. I bought a 2021 890 R new, based on watching TH-cam videos like this. Unfortunately, there were too many things I disliked - yes the handling and brakes were excellent but overall there was a distinct agricultural feel. The quickshifter was shocking and put me into some dangerous situations, the throttle was very snatchy at low speeds, the Ergos I found too upright and the overall fit and finish was poor. Then there's those looks...grated on me, so I sold it after 5000 kms. Now I own a 2023 street triple RS. This is the bike I should have bought...for me it's the complete package, the style, beautifully made, more sporty ergos, perfect quickshifter and sublime handling. I'm not a hooligan, but I like spirited rides in the twisties and the RS is fantastic. As for the suspension, I find it very misleading to review it when it hasn't been set up for the rider. Both my bikes were transformed once I had them professionally dialed in to my weight. Both triumph and ktm have superb suspension once set up. Street Triple RS wins this one hands down for me!

    • @reddpill
      @reddpill 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Exactly, leaving the Triumph on a road setting knowing that the suspension is more tuned on the KTM was a let down. However, the question should really be targeted at Triumph as to why they would set the RS to a road setting instead of sport? I'd understand the R but not the RS, as the RS should be expected to ride firmer.

    • @ZabDevin
      @ZabDevin 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t own both, however I agree with your assessment. I own the 2024 (US) STR RS, and I find it difficult to believe that the KTM suspension is that much better than the RS’s, especially without both suspensions being properly setup.

    • @ThiefOfNavarre
      @ThiefOfNavarre 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@reddpill I agree with what you are saying because there's literally 5 suspension settings. My Royal Enfield has 0 settings. If you don't dial in your bike to your weight, the type of roads you are going to be riding e.t.c, why are you even riding? I've spoken to mates who have top notch Ohlins and even semi active and when I ask them what their settings are they don't even know; they bought them to look blingy *facepalm*

      At least the preload has to be set to near rider weight to get the bike to behave correctly. The 2023 890r is much improved over the 20 and 21. I’ve had triumphs and ktms, no doubt many aspects are more refined on the triumph. But that Ktm ready to race drive train is super fun and engaging even if you don’t like to ride like Judas Priest! I’m taking a little brake from 800-1050 cc bikes for a minute and I picked up a 2024 Ktm 390 duke. I’m having fun on the Marin California twisties. Now we can cue up some Judas Priest! And maybe some original singer AC/DC. Life is good.

    890R is hands down the best bike ive ever owned. Ive been riding 30 years and have owned alot of bikes. They are amazing. Owned a STR and MT09 ( still own it) and neither come close to the smile an 890R gives you. If you pottering around town then drop the throttle response and its as sublime as the STR. But then when needed its an absolute hooligan. The stuff you can get away with is unreal. Smoto mode , slide control on 2 , track throttle and no wheelie control is bonkers. Back it in without trying 20 ft into corners and wheelie out in 2nd on the throttle its hilarious..

    I've put about 4K miles on the 890 Duke R, and it has really spoiled me when I hop on other bikes. The power, torque, and braking are so instantaneous that other bikes feel 'delayed.' It is very secure and confidence inspiring. Two downsides: you can really feel how lightweight it is on the freeway (get blown around a bit), and it does encourage you to ride a like a hooligan.

    I tested both and also the MT-09SP before opting for the RS in cosmic yellow, I absolutely loved the 890R whilst riding it but couldn't stand the looks and poor finish after getting off, I realise looks are subjective but as an old git in my sixties the Triumph's refinement swung it for me.

      @@morri03agreed looks and sound contribute heavily to my choice.
      I don't like twins so all ktm are out the window
      Aprila rs660. And so on.
      I do like triples and inline 4s
      Yamahas cp3 sounds great I prefer it to the triumph sound wise but mainly up top. I prefer triumphs low down whistle.
      Also I only like nakeds and I do like specs like brembo brakes braided lines ohlins suspension stuff like that.
      So with that in kind it leaves a few bikes
      Triumph 765rs,1050R,1200rs.
      Yamaha Mt09 sp (a am starting to enjoy the sound of yamahas cross plane (so maybe an mt10) but personally think it's a boat in size.
      Or
      BMW s1000r (gen 1 or 2)
      Mainly gen 2 for the additional blipper and up and down quick shifter, forged wheels, and updated ODB port.
      But if you don't care about a bit of weight and only having clutch less up shifts gen1 would be fine for you.
      Out of these based on price and looks and power I'm leaning towards the gen 2 s1k (also seat height of 815mm works for me.)

    I have read on RS forums that the spring rate on the front forks is a bit light and needs a slightly bigger spring rate in it - up a .5 or 1. I found it a little that it dives on braking etc. I think if you tweaked the suspension on the Triumph it would make a big difference. When other channels rode them, they had them tweaked for the track and it made a big difference. The WP on the KTM is probably slightly higher quality on the front.

    When deciding for me; it came down to the Street Triple RS, KTM 890 Duke R, Aprilia Tuono 660, and Yamaha MT-09 SP. It was agonizing! I ended up with the KTM 890 Duke R. The biggest thing...I found a good dealio. But...I already have a KTM 1190 Adventure R (I also have a Triumph Bonnevillie Speedmaster)...I like and familiar with parallel twins. I've never had a triple. It was difficult and I still wonder, "what if..." No matter the choice, I'd still be left with that question. I forgot another thing that attracted me is the turn radius of the KTM. Having ridden my 890 Duke R quite a bit...I will say it makes me look like a much better rider than what I probably am!

Just wanted to say your channel has come so far in terms of the quality, production & content. It deserves double the number of subscribers you have & is fast becoming one of my very favourite channels I can't do without! As for the bikes, both great, you don't need any more than what these offer & you can't go wrong with either. Personally I prefer the RS as an all round package as it seems more versatile & well rounded than the KTM, not to mention prettier. Nice video, thanks! Obviously you´ve had great fund during this shootout. I tested both bikes, the KTM on track and public roads, the RS only public.
    My conclusion was a bit different from yours, please forgive this comment will become a little more lenthy because of that.
    Personally, I´d prefer the RS over the KTM.
    The Triumph I tried was from a dealer, already had some miles on it.
    Suspension was properly set up and overall it felt superior to the KTMs, which had the suspension already reworked from a specialist, the owner has the same weight as I, so no change in setup.
    The KTM rear suspension, I was really surprised, as you mentioned, didn´t squat?
    I also compared the bikes with my 2020 KTM Super Duke 1290 R, which I believe has the same WP suspension on the front, just with 48mm tubes.
    That felt the same as the 890 when I bought it. Kind a wooden, not very sensitive. I changed it to Andreani Cartridges, way better. The rear damper is also about to be reworked, with a different shim setup and and piston, because it does pump quiet a lot in corners if there are bumps, but that is probably only relevant on the track.
    Definitely I liked build quality and finish of the Triumph more. All the plastic and why can´t KTM just use better screws? All the KTMs I owned are like that, the screws start to corrode after a year already
    Agree on the torquiness of the KTM, the Triumph needs revs 🙂
    A couple of months ago I bought a 2013 Daytona 675R, race setup, stock Öhlins Suspension, set up to my weight. The suspension is still ahead of the 1290, just tested both of them on track in Hungary. Love that thing, it´s like having the front axle in your hands. As a consequence I had to try the RS
    I agree on the front diving, I would probably use a little harder spring, will figure that out when it arrives.
    Ordered a yellow RS, unfortunately I have to wait, estimated delivery is October. Probably while I am in Grobnik/Croatia, squeezing out the Tona.
    Will keep the Super Duke though, the torque still get´s me every time, it has character.
    Keep up the good work, greetings from Germany

    Having owned a street triple 765 and currently own an 890R, and ride in a group with 2 riders on 765RS’s I can say confidently that the handling and brutal torque delivery on the 890R leaves the 765 a good bit behind when on a ‘brisk’ ride in the twisty stuff, it just demolishes corners when such ease and you only realise your hooliganism once you see your lack of chicken strips once you get home.

    Hi Chopsy I was so eager to watch this video ! Let's be honest hearing your different comments when you both were riding the 890 R, the Duke is a better bike overall. You stated it yourself better handling, better suspensions, engine more fun and grunty, sharpest brakes ... Indeed the Triumph is classier, certainly more beautiful but aesthetics are not the only thing to take into account. The KTM looks cheaper but is not that ugly!! Moreover when you're riding it the fun and joy it gives completely rule out its specific style. I'd add that the Duke 890 R is now 3 years old and a new Duke 990 is about to come in 2024. I let you imagine where the Triumph will stand ;-)

A 270 mimics a 90 degree V-twin, like a Ducati and others (actually the firing order is 270/450 degrees) Ktms V-twins are 75 degrees, so to mimic that in a parallel twin it will have a firing order of 285/435 degrees.
