      It honestly depends on what you want out of your bike. But if you want quick acceleration like a bmx bike, I would suggest a setup like mine. I've even seen a downhill cassette on a jump bike before. It was actually pretty cool.

      For a 73mm bottom bracket you most likly need a 6" spindle. Most dj bikes(if not all) with 73mm euro bb require it mine included.(dont believe the parts adds that say will fit 68-73mm bmx because dj mtn bikes have wider chain stays typically). 5.5 which is the most common bmx bb spindle length is too short. My 900$ dj bike came with a 5.5 regular bmx 48 spline spindle and my crank arms kept coming loose every other ride because the spindle didnt protrude far enough into each crank arm, it had enough play to keep loosening up even with taking out half the spacers and having a fairly crooked chain line also the internal bb spacer was to short(needs a 53mm I believe not the 47mm I think is in there).. anyways I'm now searching for a 6" spindle, turns out there not the most common one that comes with a bmx 3pc crank kit but there is a few out there I found. Profile, and some random spindles of of ebay and Dan's comp.
      -If I'm at all wrong here anybody correct me( I have no problem with constructive criticism)😁

    do you use a standard dirt bike chain?

    • @ianbirkettactionmedia412
      @ianbirkettactionmedia412  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a typical single speed chain. Something that you would use on a bmx bike. If you manage to get your chainline perfect, you could go with a half link chain as well.

    • @ianbirkettactionmedia412
      @ianbirkettactionmedia412  ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! Honestly, the chain slipping is more than likely a bad chain line. As in, your driver and chain ring aren't in a straight line relative to each other. That was one of the reason I made this video and went to the setup that I did.

    • @ianbirkettactionmedia412
      @ianbirkettactionmedia412  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk, I guess it would depend on if you could get the correct chainline. Plus you would need to be sure your crank arms have enough spindle to attach to. You wouldn't want your crank arms hanging half way off your spindle.

      @@ianbirkettactionmedia412 i was reading a website about "gear inch" which is an indicator to use when selecting gearing ratios: www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_g.html#gearinch . from this site it shows a calculation you can do to make the gearing feel the same for different wheel sizes. Profile says that the typical "gear inch" measurement should be 55 so for a 26" DJ a 25x12 would feel like a 20" BMX bike with a typical 25x9 configuration.

    • @ianbirkettactionmedia412
      @ianbirkettactionmedia412  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bb you have should already have spacers on it between the bb and the frame. Then you may have to add spacers between the crank arm and the outer face of the bb so you can get a good chainline. Sram's website had a good diagram to explain it better than I can.
