i agree! I have road bicycles and thought it might be a good idea for my commuting to be able to do a modest, beginner height bunny hop...I've tried and failed, but you explained it so well i may try again. Mostly fear of falling backwards stops me even though my light bicycle has tried to wheelie by itself when i put a lot of pressure on a fast start. :)

Finally an intuitive video on how to do a proper bunny hop. I have watched way too many videos on this skill and have always been disappointed. At this point I really suck at bunny hops and can do much better with the English version. I can't wait to practice these techniques which were so thoughtfully and thoroughly presented. Thanks Ali! Nice video. One comment I would add about bunnyhops is learning how to land. You touched on this with the "Extend" but it might need more attention. I tried to teach my sister to bunnyhop when we were teens and she ended up going over the bars. I've seen many people, especially those using the SPD approach you disavowed, who get the first part right but then nosedive the landing. It's very important to extend your legs to push the rear back down first, or at least level.

Ali, your teaching style is awesome, definitely the best bunny hop how to I've seen to date. Thanks for actually breaking it down and explaining how & why vs simply what you're doing. More how to vids would be wicked 👍

Excellent... appreciated the super slow motion to help learn the technique.

i always come back to your guide videos no matter if im still just learning the techniques or just looking for some guidance that i lost along the way to become better at them. this time it's because i wanted to see how true a statement is. "you can only bhop as high as you can lift your front wheel" and it seems to be true. it will also become a good way to measure what i'm doing wrong, when i'm persuading the 1 meter height bhop goal, which is still quite far. my highest one had to be somewhere between 60 and 75cm, but those aren't very consistent and i didn't actually measure it at that time, but i'm 100% sure those were way higher than my measured record at 45cm.
now i'm gonna have to see how far can i lift my front wheel and how does my rear wheel follows. chances are i'm missing out, because i can't lift my rear wheel high enough, or perhaps it's the opposite. i can't lift the front high enough to improve them.
anyway i wanted to ask you a question. often times when i'm going for the very high hops i either loop out and jump off the pedals or i end up "denying" the hop. i lift the front, that also causes my back wheel to get off the ground slightly, without doing any work with my legs, but i immediately cancel the whole process by "pumping" the rear down, because it doesn't feel stable and i'm unable to do the rest of the motion. fear also plays a role here. sometimes when i try to ignore the "unstable" position and proceed with the rest of the hop, the whole thing just goes completely wrong and gets nasty with myself (sometimes) slipping off the pedals in the front direction as i'm nose diving very heavily. can you think of some tips how to improve on those? not gonna lie, those get very discouraging quickly, but i feel like i have to find a way to overcome those if i wanna do 1m+ hops eventually.
also this vid just got 1m views, congrats, Ali. i think that's my favorite one as well.
