    I've been doing the parallel compression to get good attack for years, but never thought about adding more sustain using the same method. Very nice. Thank you.

    love this channel. your other video made me a subscriber - how to make summing track stacks with sends within all in one tidy package. revolutionized my workflow, since I want my vocal or bass or drum-specific processing all within the same group, and this one has me running to the studio to try this as well with my live drums. keep up the good work, man!

    I eq some of the low end and high end out as you don't really need it's the mid range punch you're going for

    Not sure why but my drums only sound good when I clip the drum buss a bit via compression. I don't like to run it in the red but it sounds so freaking good. Only the snare clips anyway. I know people do this on purpose but not sure if the actual channel is supposed to clip.

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can definitely clip the drums bus/run it hot with plugins etc, then just turn it down so the channel isnt going above 0. Going over 0 in your DAW won’t add anything just bad gain staging haha

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, I think the snare was the CLA expansion pack for trigger and the kick might have been from Getgood Drums modern and massive. but they are blended with the real kick and snare. You should check out some of my drum mixing videos to get an idea of the plugins I like to use!

    Do you always compress after EQ? If not, when do you compress first, is there a reason beyond "it sounds good to me"?

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually I’ll EQ first if the sound is really bad… needs some corrective EQ, maybe a vocal is too bassy/boomy. Fixing that before hitting compresssor will get better results

    I’m interested in the routing in logic, I like to send all parallel stuff pre fader so I can solo it too listen, whenever I set up a bus post fader it always has the dry signal to deal with, this is making thing tricky at the moment ?
    Do you always route all parallel busses post fader?

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually I do most things post fader and don’t find it problematic!

    • @paulferrarodrums
      @paulferrarodrums 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@spinlightstudios Thanks man love the channel, question how can I solo the send to hear the effect in isolation without hearing the dry . I don’t want to mix like this but I can’t hear the effect in solo unless I switch to pre fader, maybe I just don’t know what I’m doin yet, be assured this real instrument recording not edm or midi stuff

    • @paulferrarodrums
      @paulferrarodrums 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I find this most frustrating when I want pan a guitars reverb to the opposite side , I have to go pre fader so it will isolate

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulferrarodrums yeah that makes sense, or you could use the “gain” plugin and use the swap left and right button if it’s a stereo send. That will flip which side the signal is on!

      @@spinlightstudios interesting thanks for your prompt response I will try that .. just FYI , I’ve just set up my last mix session like yours in the basement recording.. it’s going well at this stage I was using track stacks instead of aux tracks for drum (snares Tom’s ect) groups, interesting that you used sends for drum groups , but you used track stacks for the other instruments , it made my routing tricky , any thoughts as to why??
      Cheers mate appreciate the response

    Where do u typically route ur parallel comp’d drums to? Back into ALL DRUMS bus or somewhere else?

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Back into my drum bus, then I have complete control over the drum mix from one fader

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Then I have some mild gluey compression on the drum bus as a whole
