I bought this same Lenovo 3 years ago for my son. He lost the power cord after the first 6 months and it sat until recently. When I bought a new power cord and finally got it to restore back to factory, space became a issue. I am so glad that I found your video. I purchased the same drive you described but on Amazon for 26 bucks. Fast and very easy upgrade. Thank you for taking the time you took to make this video and God Bless Brutha.

Thanks for sharing. I found it very useful. Don't be discouraged by people critiquing your mistakes or presentation style. You should be proud of figuring this out for yourself and you should keep pushing on. It took me awhile to learn all the tricks and secrets. When you figure it out teach your son so he is not afraid of technology. I had my son and daughter help me build their desktop computer from scratch. They learned a lot about computers and no longer see them as magic boxes and now they are going to start doing their own upgrades.

This is video is especially valuable now that unfortunately, the more recent versions of Windows 10 force you to free up a best-case minimum of 8GB on the local hard drive in addition to having 11GB free on an SD/thumb. In order to stay current, it's now required to upgrade internal storage because it is impossible to free up 8GB of space on the original 32GB drive unless you uninstall Windows as well.
Great to be able to do it right, and on the cheap!
Thanks for your kindness, Mr. Randy!

Thank you man, I saw this video, I was looking for a solution to my Lenovo IdeaPad 110S-11IBR, as it was unusable after it ran short of memory, I said to myself: if this guy can do it I can do it, so I bought 250G SSD from Amazon, my Lenovo now works great. saved me hundreds of Euros buying a new notepad.

I just finished watching your video it looks pretty easy but I’m afraid to open my Lenovo. I bought it this February until now I could barely use it because of its low memory. I’ll order that chip somehow in the future once I get a job. 😁 Thank you for sharing this will save it on my playlist. Have a good day!

you can simply clone the existing windows installation to the new drive. Everything is copied and on the same location. Then change the boot order in the bios, the ssd has to be the first boot drive

  • @davelembke5712

Thanks for sharing this. Its nice to see whats inside the laptop before I open it to know what i am going to be up against. I'm getting this laptop tomorrow from someone for $75 and it only has 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. I was hoping the RAM slot was going to be shared here, but its good to know that adding the M.2 SSD storage is easy. I might just use the Micro SD Slot with a 128GB for added storage as this laptop wont be fast anyways and I can symbolic link to span the Micro SD to the SSD to install stuff to C: which is actually on the Micro SD since I already have a Micro SD Card available for it. On my other laptops I use my Micro SD Slot as a location to mirror data with my drive so that if the drive crashes I still have a copy of it on the Micro SD Card.

The boot menu you pulled up does not change anything, you are selecting what to boot from that time only. To change boot order, you'd have to go into BIOS settings. Screw size is M2 x 3MM - which most Lowes and Ace Hardware stores sell locally. Your laptop will work with just about any M.2 Solid State Drive, not just the ADATA drives and Lenovo drives.

    @grumich4084 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Interesting video. Thanks. There is one problem however. You called this "Upgrading lenovo 110s-11IBR Memory" and that's not correct. "Memory," in "computer lingo" is RAM (DRAM). What you were upgrading is "Storage" (or similar terms.) The two are quite different and it's a lot like calling a string a "rope;" You probably don't wanna do a lot of rock climbing with a "rope" that's actually a "string." Make sense?
The reason I quibble over that is because I am trying to find someone who might have been able to add more MEMORY to this laptop; 2GB just doesn't cut it. And I've yet to find someone who knows how to do that. I got as far as unscrewing the shield that covers the motherboard but it Seems the board is sort of "glued on" and I don't want to tear it out without knowing if that's "wise."
And I did upgrade my memory to 128KB. Easy, actually. And 128GB isn't much, but enough for me and this laptop. And it not only increased my storage, but it a good deal FASTER. Around 4 - 14 TIMES faster which is nice, especially since, due to that meager 2GB it has the system tends to do a LOT of swapping which is quite slow when compared to RAM.
So, that's it. Please don't think I'm "picking on you," I'm not. It's just that using the wrong terms can be confusing to others. Thanks again.
(P.S. Thanks for the lead on that other site, however I don't understand why you didn't just add it directly to the text in your post; it'd be a LOT simpler since it was quite tiny and "bleary." But I found it and ... no-go. Not entirely sure, but it seems that site rejects people from viewing it (Or it's just my system.) It appears it was done purposely but there's a workaround that I've yet to test; gotta change the IP address to make it let you in. Odd though that someone who posts reviews would block it so perhaps it's just some odd "fluke.")

    • @ericgoberman3408

I just did this today and it worked.. but there are some tricks
      His first steps are OK
I installed the new SSD in the slot as he shows
Then I changed the boot order so that the new memory would be tried first then the original c drive
      Reboot
Next download FREE (www.diskpart.com/free-partition-manager.html) (aka AOMEI) and install
You now have a new drive that is unallocated. Use AOMEI to clone c to d
      Reboot
You will have 3 partitions c, recovery, and unallocated.
      Use AOMEI
--Delete the recovery partition on the new drive (now C) (AOMEI will reboot to make this happen)
-- Extend the small C to the entire drive (120 gigs)
Use SYSTEM DIsk Manager to view your disks as you go along so you make sure you have the right things at the right time
Took me forever following all sorts of rabbit holes that didn't work (make a boot USB that won't install because MS thinks I'm stealing). This took less than an hour
You STILL have bootable windows on D: (the original C) so you're not in any danger. just change the boot order and you have your original machine

Good video: 7/10; I wish you didn’t say “uhm” every 3 seconds, would have been a 8.5-9/10. If you were able to get a camera holder and use both hands along with not saying “uhm”, the video would have been a few minutes shorter and then that’s how it would have been a 10/10 video. Just some constructive feedback :D
