Hello, nice video (I have been watching and saving a bunch to refer back to so I don't miss anything) but by far yours is the most complete. I have one question. Instead of making a windows boot USB can you clone the 32GB drive to the new one that is installed? This would save all the data including the MS Office that I have installed. Then format the 32GB drive to have the additional storage. Is this possible? I have 2 of these to do that are for my kids and what they use for school. Thank you if you can clarify.

@@TechMadeEasyUK Got it. Thanks again for the steps...
I’m looking to get an older Lenovo ideapad in order to upgrade. I got Lenovo 120s cheap about 2 years ago but have discovered neither SSD nor RAM can be upgraded and tbh I’m getting frustrated with it’s limitations. From what I understand both SSD and RAM can be upgraded in the 110s? I want to do this right since I’m supposed to be building my savings up and can’t afford a misstep!
The syorage can be upgraded in the 110s, but not the memory
Thanks so much. I'm gonna try this out
Glad to have helped!
My 100S has different internals, any advise?
Maybe try watching a video for the 100S?
Hi, as you said "
It's a Windows 10 bootable USB. You can create one using a free tool on Microsoft website" Where is it exactly?
Here you go: www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO
The link may not be correct for your country, this is the UK link. Googling it will give the correct link for your country.
Ok so I downloaded the MediaCreationTool1909 to my usb. Do I need to format the usb? Is the usb good to go?
@@rednihilism you download the media creation tool to your pc and then run it, it then asks you which drive you want to create media on and you select your USB drive. You don't need to install the media creation tool itself on your USB stick
Thank you but dose the usb have to be a certain format? (Sorry for all the questions)
@@rednihilism format it as FAT32 to be safe
Please make a video how to upgrade a memory ram
This model laptop does not have upgradeable RAM
Great video. Apart from openning the laptop, how can I be sure my 110S-11IBR has an M.2 connector? Cheers.
If its the same model as shown here then it should have an M.2 connector
@@TechMadeEasyUK Thanks. I've just worked out how to access the Lenovo parts list...which has 2 possible motherboards for my serial number, both have an M.2 connector. You've got be so careful though with Acer also. (connectors are quite often not there). Thanks.
ps. my parts list here

Thanks a lot!
But I have one question, what happens with the windows 10 license that the computer already has? Do I have to buy another one?
It's written onto a chip on the motherboard, you shouldn't need to but another one
@@TechMadeEasyUK Oh, so I don´t need to enter any code or some?
You shouldn't need to, no
@@TechMadeEasyUK ok, very much thanks :), but should I format the emmc first, or after reinstalling windows in the ssd?
You can format it during the Windows installation
are they the same with 100s? i'd like to add a memory for the 100s series coz I can't update the windows
The 100s has a different logic board and I don't believe it has expandable storage
You can add ssd 😉
Very informative video. I have a 64Gb Ideapad 1.11GL05 model 81VT which has the same 10 screws and looks very similar inside. I ordered a 256Gb M.2 2280 card, then upon closer inspection on your video, I realised that although mine has an edge connector on the mother board and screw hole as on yours, the socket to plug the M.2 card in is missing. Do you know if this is available? Maybe my Ideapad is not suitable for upgrade!
My fault, should have been more careful.
Sorry I've not looked at that model so can't advise
The steps really worked...I was able to install new hard drive and install O/s, is there any way we can increase the RAM from 2GB to 4 GB
Afraid not, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard on this model
i bought a m.2. NVME drive, does it work? in bios is not shown this NVME drive.
No, as explained in the video you need an M.2 SATA drive
It’s been 2 times that I’ve ordered what’s in the video and 2 times they send me the wrong part the nvme did fit in the slot but didn’t show up, I wish the sellers would double check before shipping out ugh
Are you 100% sure it's the wrong part? Sometimes Amazon do change product links so it's possible I need to double check them to ensure I'm not misinforming people
@@TechMadeEasyUK yeah, I didn't order from your link I ordered from Ebay for a savings, low on cash flow lol your links are correct I went there to price match
Great stuff. Thanks
You're welcome!
Your video was very good. Well explained! The only thing I needed to know is how to CLONE everything to the new SSD drive. Not reinstall Windows 10 or any other apps/programs. Thanks!
There are apps for doing that and plenty of other videos on TH-cam demonstrating it. But glad this helped!
@@TechMadeEasyUK Do you have a preferred easy to use favorite one?
Did you find a good tutorial for it? I'm so lost.
Did it ask you for your Windows Product Key? my Lenovo is from my old work boss.
If the machine originally shipped with Windows 10 then it should have a digital license built in
Can it be used for extra storage instead of a boot drive?
Yes but you'd be missing out on the performance benefit of using the M.2 drive as your boot drive, it'll be faster than the built in eMMC storage
@@TechMadeEasyUK thank you. And you don't need to activate windows again once you install it?
@@michaelwalker8250 You shouldn't need to, no
@@TechMadeEasyUK ok
What is the model and brand of ssd? Thanks
The model I used was a used item from ebay, but there are suitable links in the video description
Great content! Could ram be also improved or just the storage?
Unfortunately not
@@TechMadeEasyUK thank you very much for your response! you are great!
Hi, there are 3rd party tools out there for doing this
Great video I'm thinking of doing this., But some people think this modification may be futile as upcoming Windows updates are so large it will swallow up all the new gigs in a short space of time. Do you think this is true?
It depends on the size of the SSD you install, I don't think windows will encapsulate a 120gb SSD anytime soon
Paid $50 for mine new, so this is a no brainer upgrade. It is great for traveling ad light work.
I agree, I took this one on a plane journey just this week
I have installed the memory but once I exit and save my ideapad reboots to my home lock screen and does not start the windows install from the usb. I also cannot seem to install manually.
(I hate computers)
Double check that you've followed the steps shown exactly as this method is proven to work
@@TechMadeEasyUK I have followed everything :( I think the problem may lie with the usb but I have no idea why or how to resolve this. I have created the installation tool 3 times
@@susanharding3660 can you test the USB in another PC to see if it is picked up as a boot device?
how can I tell?
@@TechMadeEasyUK the old laptop I have created the tool from dos not have Windows 10 will that cause a problem? I dont want to kill my sons new laptop messing about
Is 2280 and 2280SS the same thing? Thanks!
The SS stands for "Single Sided" and means that all the memory chips are on one side of the circuit board. In real terms it doesn't really matter if this is so, in most cases
hello, i opened my laptop like in your video, and in mine it's a slot for NVMe SSD, maybe it's a European version of this laptop ?
I looked for the difference between sata (M.2) and pci (NVMe), it's pci slot in which you can install either a sata or a pci. in this case which one to choose ? thanks.
If your model can accept either than for this use case it doesn't make much difference, so I would go with the cheapest
@@TechMadeEasyUK Hello, with your manipulation, when installing windows with usb, no need for a key for windows ? thanks
...because I don't know where it is, the support says on the box but I can't find it
Depending on the age and variant, you may not be required to enter a license key
Awesome video I have now resurrected my daughters windows 10 laptop that couldn't update

just thinking that I might be able to install linux (fedora) on it and make an 8GB swap file on the optane too and then you have 10GB of RAM upgrade.
Thank you for this video ! Great and easy to follow. It did take me a couple of attempts on the Windows 10 install as I kept thinking that this computer HAD to be a 32 bit system. Once it hit me that it was 64 bit, PIECE OF CAKE !
What antivirus software would you recommend ? Or should I just stick with the Windows 10 antivirus software ?
Personally I just use Windows defender and make intelligent solutions about what websites I visit and what files I download
Yes, Windows 10 own anti-virus should be good enough for home use. Mcafee (yikes I hear you say!) does a useful freebie for those that like clicking (or typing) random websites. Its Webvisor. www.mcafee.com/en-gb/safe-browser/mcafee-webadvisor.html
@@TechMadeEasyUK Thanks again for both this video and your reply !
@@videorab Thanks for your reply. How much CPU/MEMORY will McAfee's Webvisor consume ? I am very much afraid to add ANY software that stays resident and runs in the background given the limtied capacity of this little machine.
Well-thought out and executed instructions. The screwdriver tip near the screen was giving me palpitations though.

Is a "USB Key" just a jump drive / flash drive ? I've never heard that term before.
Yes, just a USB flash drive
@@TechMadeEasyUK Thanks for the reply and thanks for making this video. I do not understand how the USB Key contains windows however, if it's just a jump drive afterall. And after looking into how to download the "media creation tool" from the Microsoft website, I was unable to find space on my hard drive to do this, and the USB Key was not capable of this download either.
