the main thing about the challenger is how WIDE the breach weakspot is and the fact that you can easily kill the gunner and commander by shooting the breach
I’m ashamed by the way these tank have been treated by gaijin. Armour not modelled correctly, slower turret traverse, round nerfed in penetration etc but despite that, I have a 4 KD in these thing purely because I love to play them. I think that if you love playing something, no matter how bad it is, you will perform good with it.
I also think Britain should get top tier IFVs, like the Ajax or 40mm warrior.

Yeah these are absolute beasts in real life. Seen them in action on ranges in Latvia and Germany.
It’s such a shame they’re so poo in this game… the sound also doesn’t sound right at all, you KNOW a chally is coming when you hear it.
My friend is a nerd when in comes to anything military, especially tanks. And he told me that Challenger 2s have some of the strongest armour and have never been destroyed in combat.

I considered grinding the British tech tree and have played a bit of British tanks from the sweedish tech tree like the Strv101 and kinda enjoy it. I think one positive thing about a somewhat slow tank is that you don't over extend yourself or push too aggressively where you die quickly.

I wonder if Gajin will do a full overhaul of the challenger after it annihilates their favourite Russian tanks in Ukraine. Challenger is the best MBT in the world, its a joke how bad they are on this game

@iretrouse while I can kinda agree with you, the point is, there isn't as much tank v tank combat due to positional nature of the fighting. Hell, Korea only had 101 tank-on-tank engagements. What is interesting, is that both sides do not mass their tanks, and don't use them as "tanks", instead preferring to use them as pocket artillery and fire support akin to a IFV. I'm curious as to what is your opinion on the matter.

What drives me nuts About British top tier is that these should be the best protected tanks in the game. The British leaned VERY hard into protection with their MBT tank designs. From the Chieftain's design to developing Chobham Armor for the Challenger series; armor was the entire point of the tanks. These were heavy tanks that put a focus primarily on Armor protection, then firepower, then mobility last and they only thing they seem to get right is the mobility part.
SO why are they so damn easy to pen in this game... cause I guarantee you they aren't IRL.

You definitely got it right that the UK is not meta. They have a very niche play style that requires a special kind of personality, but if you fit that bill then they're great. The Challengers especially compensate for lack of speed with a good deal of torque in the very low end of the gear box (both in forward and reverse). They kind of have an initial burst then start lurching to top speed in either direction. Also, I've noticed that the whole Challenger line (starting with the Mk.2) the turrets seem like they're nothing to write home about but my experiences, while anecdotal, indicate that you can take a lot of hits to the noggin without necessarily dying or taking a lot of damage. It's not uncommon for the barrel and/or breech to be the only victims of an incoming round when you're hull down.
Pray to god you don't get a close quarters map and a team that doesn't fold like a cheap lawn chair leaving your flanks completely exposed. If these go in your favor, just work a ridge line while hull down. If your turret face gets tagged, the 2-piece ammo situation saves you from getting yeeted in the event a round passes into the bustle. Use any repair time to replenish the first-stage ammo stowage and keep at it. On the bright side, your lack of speed usually means that your teammates are racing forward and taking fire for long enough that you can get situated in a good firing lane.
The Brits require a few factors outside of your control to really shine, but when you find yourself in the correct circumstances they are one of the most fun nations to play.

I think having squad mates who don't mind being your meat shield and pushers is the best you can hope for while you plink away.
Ahh yes gaijin completely underarmouring the challengers.... they should be one of the most heavily protected tanks in the game
Gaijin will sadly probably never add the correct mantlet armor or give it anything other than it's training rounds.
When I started grinding Britain, the tank that I wanted was the Challenger MK3, I admired it so much I kept going back to have a look at it in preview 😂, I have one 8.0 vehicle which is the falcon, and I did buy the sho’t kal dalet (don’t buy, better off with the rooikat 105) which was the worst choice as I quickly found out that it didn’t have thermal (it does now) now I’m saving up for the vikers mk1 to make my life a little easier, however I was stuck at 12k SL so I went to Germany to gain some, it worked and now I have 64k and I am now back in the British grind 😂
I started with the British tanks. Currently BR 4-5 and its been difficult and frustrating but still fun. Definitely have to play different than Russian or German tank players. Churchill is so slow but finally i can survive a little better. So many times i get the first shots in but they bounce and then i get one shot killed in pretty much every other tank thus far unless im well positioned.
I can't stop playing the British tree. I always feel like I'm fighting with one hand tied behind my back but damn, I love the tanks and the challenge they present. US bores me and I just can't find any love for the German lineups. Also, I'd rather quit the game than play Russia.

I wish this video had been made 1-2 years earlier and I would have seen it. I started playing with the british tanks bc. i thought the challanger is a beast (bc. its look like it) and i thought that is the best top tier tank. My playstyle is the super aggressive, rushing playstyle with fast but weakly armored vehicle. Today i'm at 8.0 and i start to realize i made a very big mistace. Nowadays I found out what kind of game the English tanks require, but I'm suffering a lot, usually above 7.0 br. Today, its too late to start to grind an other nation and i hope the Vickers mk. 7 will be good for my playstyle. Ps.: soon i can buy the rooikat, i hope that will be a fun to play instead of centurion and chieftain.

I have the all of the chally 2's and i find them brilliant compared to the BVM
i have a russian version of this style of video i might recommend to go watch that.
Cuase there tips in that video that would differentiate between a good and great ru palyer.
i'm surprised u didn't say anything about the warrior having good thermals and being fast enough to spot targets and getting into decent positions for top tier
i dont own it but its garbage. Its arguably the worst IFV of the any of the nations.

The armour isn't actually right at all in real life the armour is 800mm plus on the mantlet alone

this was b4 apds change. for conqueror its a special tank. cause it has range finder.
sinces its pretty expensive to run. i might recommend sniping with it.
in terms of cas i dont have any cas for britian.
dam im new to warthunder and bought the centurion mark 5 avre its very solid but the challengers look depressing lmao i wish it were better
the avre is a fun tank. i would honestly say you could take it to top tier and derp tanks.
but the future looks promising. were getting a faster challenger.
only thing left is for britian to get more IFVs for top tier and they be a decent nation.

nobody really knows the thickness of the front plate its just guesses but there is extra armour that can go over it with or without the era, its just excluded on purpose to keep it weak, I have fitted them before, bolts on same as the era rack or through both if that's what they want.
EDIT: the extra armour plates are also the good old secret Dorchester armour that also go on the turret and the turret sides as well as the thinner rpg plates on the sides of the tracks then the era goes over it.
yh the speed isn't as good as it could be but both Abram's and challenger have off road speed of 25 mph, but slightly slower on the road at like 36 - 38 or something but the trade of is a range of 550km on road.
The only real weak spot on the front hull just looking would be above the driver in front of the turret ring because you are not penetrating the armour around that's nearly 180 degrees, pretty much flat.... unless you're shooting down of course but at that point shooting the top of the turret is better as you would kill the offensive capability of the tank.
Not so sure about the mantle weakness, the original tank doctrine had a large emphasis on fighting from a defensive position and only the turret visible from firing so I wouldn't trust that to be a weak point unless its hollow because from inside the tank it doesn't seem to be any weaker or very slightly if any.
And obviously war thunder doesn't account for the armour material but hey why would they 🤣

How do you do this? I bait the track shot and get one shotted quite s bit. I the grind to ublock thw modules is driving me nuts. And they are soooooooooooooooooo slowww its agrivating. Esp on a controller. Cant cap cant flank all i can do is take pot shots or just die or get crippled gun orctrack.

to answer your question. you 1 way to play challenger tanks and its gonna be specific because you are slow. THINGS U CANT DO IN THE CHALLY's > FLANK, GET TO POINT FIRST, ETC.
What you should do is this. On each map try to remember where you are seeing tanks in the opening engagements of the game or whenever your getting shot at. I would recommend to pre aim these area or to be wary of them. One of other thing you can do is to make sure if ur gonna peak try to peak with ur lower plate not showing and slightly angel by like 5%. ur gonna be playing catch up with the rest of the team. Best you can do is find a spot that you like on each map and try to watch a cross or snipe. or final option is to switch to any other nation.

heres why:
speed is one problem of challengers but they also have a huge problem of where their ammo is stored. ( in the hull) they have slow turret traverse compared to other mbts. they have other weakness like only 570 dart pen and 4 first ammo storage.
the tech tree also lacks proper light tank and anit air support. the only ifv they have is the warrior at 8.0 and the prem rooikat at 9.0
stay clear of britian. if your deciding what nation to start first, america, russia or sweden.

it makes me happy that you would like a specific video but man i gotta be honest ive had no will to play war thunder in the last several months.
Im kind of low key waiting for economy buffs cause everytime i get into the game its just so freaking grindy.
I want to make more war thunder content but hte love isnt there, sorry.

@@SusieDeltaruneVRC I might suggest to watch some of the other nation videos I did. I did Russia and I think franch. Although u won't learn how to play swedish tanks u will learn the tips and tricks and weakness of these other nations.
Also I would to stay from these nations as they sucks. Italy, China, Israel.
Also some other tips don't start another nation until u have completed Sweden. It's better to have air, ground, and helis for the respective nation than have 3 half complete nations.
Also do some searching on sales. Gaijin multiple times a year will have deals for 6 months of prem for 20$ USD. So it only costs 40 $ USD for 1 year. Also November is when they have their best sales. Where u can pair 2 prem and get 50% off each. So for example u can get that one prem swedish rank 6 ground on (cv 105 I think it's called, it has auto loader) u can pair it with a rank 6 or 7 plane prem. These packs will also give u 1.5 k GE each and 15 days prem time.
With the extra GE u can get ur self some crew slots for Sweden.
I hope this helps. Biggest take do research before u buy anything. And feel free to ask my opinion on anything about the game.
