He could have, he learned a very different way of dueling when he fought red nova that made him a better matchup against z-one but in the anime yusei was better suited to duel with all the signer dragons in his deck which was more in line with the theme of the series

not sure if, lore speaking, jack could defeat z-one, yusei had to do insane combos and use all signer dragons
