OK, I'm not saying that it's not a stupid mechanic, because it is...... but with an all new monster zone that you have to get over to make direct attacks, it creates a nice wall to use when you need to get out of a pinch
also, it allows everyone to have their own unique deck build and playsyle instead of just mirroring the best arctype and mixing it up with 1-3 to make it 'different'
other than that, just use zombies or any deck that play's from the graveyard for now till they give out arctype support
it's still new, we don't have many cards, so sit-down, shut up and wait for the time being

There are some of us that still like to play the old way, we're just REALLY hard to find now.
Me personally I prefer playing with Synchros with just a dash of Xyz for flavor...which is why I don't play meta.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I got back into YGO during XYZ and they slowly grew on me. I didn't play pendulum but I tolerated them. Now Link summoning has everything all fucked up and I kind of don't want to play anymore

Konami will never support such a format. It'll be only on casual and maybe local levels. The best we can do is play anything that doesn't require Links at all (even better if the meta stays away from links) and wait until they murder the shit out of every deck that doesn't need links, then call them out for their greed, ?????, not profit...
I don't know about other areas but in my area, they has casual games and they said that they will not include link monsters and its mechanics u till they fix it
He's not talking about Konami, he means online ygo simulators and local shops where players gather to duel casually. Basically unnoficial duels where you can use whatever rules you like.
No one will play officially then. Konami tourneys will end up ghost towns, and unofficial and online tourneys will reign.
Synchro, xyz, pendulum... literally none of them forced other players to buy new cards to continue playing the game the way they wanted to. They were all optional, where link on the other hand is restricting everyone who is not using them! It's a forced scam! Unlike the other mechanics, which are fun and some people wanted to play them and have those options, links says "no, you have to play links to continue to try and play the game as you know it". It's bullshit. It would seem cimo got it right
With SYnchro,XYZ and Pendulums made other decks absolut by either KOnami hitting them in the banlist or just power creeping It.Those mechanics didn't inherently prevented other mechanics from being good either the banlist or the power creep did It.

A company is supposed to please their costumers... Otherwise how is it supposed to have clients?? A lot of people are quitting YGO now because of link summoning. Konami sure made more money in this short period of time, but in a long term view, it will have almost no costumers and wont make any more money

Well good news then: you still can summon multiple Synchro and XYZ monsters! Just, you know, gotta open up some extra monster zones first using a link monster, but surely, a special summon spam focused deck has no problem bringing out two more monsters for a generic link that can open up two spaces, no?
@TheCamProject Just stop going to events (or if you do use Monarchs or a similar Xtra-Slayer type Deck) and play MR3 Format with like-minded people.
I'm sorry if this is too old, but just in case you didn't know, Master rule revision fixed this! Now you don't need to use link monsters. (Still applies to pendulums tho)
@@eidolonphoenix3503 I can accept Pendulums, even forgiving the change to the playing field itself. But Links as released were a huge mistake. Thankfully MR5 sorted out a lot of these issues.
I'll always welcome new mechanics as long as they don't _require_ players to retool an entire style.
New cards use to be so powerful you had to use them. Now link monsters are viable cause they made rules that said "USE US OR ELSE!!!!!"

I couldn't agree with you any more. I've normally been open to new mechanics and Summoning types, but Link monsters really are breaking some boundaries. I hate the feeling that it's interfering with the otherwise peaceful game we've had up to now, in addition to the monsters having a handful of new properties that we're forced to learn and adopt. Outside of nerfing a lot of decks that simply can't utilize them efficiently, it's going to be very difficult to transition people over to the new rules and mechanics without a lot of confusion. As a result, a lot of people are doing just what you said and simply using decks that aren't subject to the problems Links introduce. Great points, great discussion!

They mean mechanic wise. up till now no new mechanic has ever stopped the older one from being used. Konami often goes out of their to stop releasing decent cards for older mechanics just to keep the new one in focus for a while. A strange practice as players will by what ever new cards that happen to be playable anyway.

Team APS I wouldn't describe the game as peaceful in the past few years. These unbreakable boards aren't healthy for a game. While I do agree that the lock is out of order, I do like the feeling of having the Extra Deck as an EXTRA Deck. Something that supplements your deck. EDIT: This does not restrict summoning these extra deck monsters from the grave. D/D's are an example of a deck more than equipped to deal with this.

I started to get on board the Link train as time progressed, because I don't mind the slow down of the game. But then I watched a video of Odd-Eyes vs Star Grail and the Star Grail, ON THEIR TURN 1, LINK SUMMONED 13 TIMES and went through half their deck. So they aren't suppose to slow down the game, they are suppose to just stop us from playing old cards and force us to play Links or not use the Extra Deck. I think that is bullshit. Especially after an entire season focused on celebrating all the mechanics and saying they are all good.

The largest issue I have with link summoning is that the old mechanics came out you didn't have to use it if you didn't want to, however link summoning doesn't give you the option and honestly I think it's just unnecessary to force it, it seems like konami didn't think it would catch so they forced it to be used

I totally agree. I first came to the game when 5D's hit. I actually found the anime first, and graduated to playing the game just because the anime made the game look so fun and cool.
Then Xyz came along and while I was hesitant and kinda worried it was a broken Summon method at first, I got into it and ended up liking it almost as much as Synchros.
Then Pendulum came along and I was like:
"Ok who the fuck is in charge of this shit? How did this make it past the balance team? This shit is broken, free respawn every turn? WTF?"
Now I'm just looking at Links and SMH. I like that the anime is a genuine call-back to 5D's in the story aspect (actually I love that part about it) and that it also incorporates some of the best elements of Zexal as well (Fuck Yuma, love me some Barians, those guys are badass). But the actual IRL game changing rules? They nearly break Accel Synchros (give us 2 X-Zones each Konami!) and actually fail to slow the game down AT ALL for the mainstream meta. The only decks MR4 hurts is rogue decks. Just like how the only people increased taxes hurt are the middle class.
In fact now that I think about it, Links are actually an "Extra Deck Tax" in EVERY sense of the word!

But Link summon IS GARBAGE. At least the other mechanics are optional, Link Summoning FORCES you to play it. It changes the game a lot more than you would think. And now some classic decks aren't even viable anymore even as rogue, because whatever extra deck power they had access to, are now limited. You're FORCED to play Links and that means you cannot play pure builds anymore. At least with Synchro, Xyz and Pendulums, you have the option to play one or all of them. With Links you have NO CHOICE. Konami could've easily altered some preexisting rules like they have in the past, but no, now we have to play with this trash mechanic. That's my argument against Links.

Decks that don't use the Extra Deck exist, but there right now 80% of decks that exist are Extra Deck based. Because of Link summoning that 80% of decks have to change their entire play style just to even be functional.

How are decks not "pure" anymore by throwing in a few link monsters in the extra? And why do decks need to be pure? As long as they still play somewhat the same as before the new rules that should be good enough, no? I can't think of any deck that directly dies with this, sure some decks are nerfed harder than others, but that's life
Link mechanic forces Link. It's like if Xyz inherently stopped Synchro or something. It's one thing for a new mechanic to be good and another for that new mechanic to just automatically make other mechanics worse.
Like if instead of extra monster zone, it was Link monster only zone, that would be good cuz link monsters can do more geometry plays. Link itself is neat, but the inherent fuck you to other decks is terrible.
I think they should have just given us 2 X-Zones instead of one. Would remove 60% of the problems people have right away because:
1. Two zones means you can still spam Synchros/Xyz's, just not nearly as much as before, allowing you to still perform nice plays without it being completely broken *glares at pendulums*
2. Two zones allows you to have an easier time co-linking link monsters, as well as leaving Accel Synchro Summons untouched *cry*
3. Two zones means the Link Lock Chain mechanic can actually be cool in that it doesn't completely shut down your opponent immediately while still punishing them for letting you get such a ridiculous board

They could have put link summoning in the game and I would have been fine....if they hadn't locked the extra deck.... And remember how they added a new zone for pendulums? well they could have just said that what is now called the "Extra Monster Zone" could have just been the Link Zone where only link monster went and it would have been fine!

I've been away from Yugioh for awhile, had the thought of coming back, but the new link mechanic pretty much kills everything I want to do. I'm not sure I even will come back to be honest.

My favourite method is Synchro too, I like how you always had to consider what level everything was and what combination of monsters would result in the best outcome. I love the long combos resulting in powerful boss monsters where each step is a math quiz.

Regardless of the "strength" of each individual link monster, it will be incredibly annoying to ever experiment with deck types again, without having to somehow shove in an engine to produce link monsters. Heck, one of the most amazing things about yu-gi-oh is always being able to play cards from any set, but this "restriction" will make any kind of fringe deck/non meta deck fall by the wayside. Konami might as well start the horror of set rotation.
Set rotation is amazing in a lot of ways that is healthy for the game itself because each format is refreshing and they don't have to do insane powercreep every set... although it isn't really good for the wallet.
Yugioh is one of the few remaining "pro" card games that does not have set rotation. This makes it rather refreshing in comparison with constantly being able experiment and dig for interesting synergies. .... Although the post was not at all aimed at rotation, rather the whole restriction on viability of decks taking a plunge if they can't find/fit a engine for link monsters, especially older ones.
Let's be real here, Yugioh plays too much on the nostalgia to ever have set rotation. Plus, I'm ready to bet most people would just drop the Advanced Format and play only Legacy. For the same reasons, I'm not surprised Links aren't played much in the meta. Some people kinda want to try new decks, I always do, but if I'm forced to use Links for the extra deck, I'd rather not play an extra deck at all, hence the True King and True Draco meta.
443carl I loved that with Cyber Drags I could toss in Blue eyes, Lightsworn, Dinomist, or a synchro Tzolkin engine. Now what the fuck can I do? My Fortress Dragon will be useless. If I summon him I'll be stuck with him in the new monster zone and not being able to do shit.
Set rotation wouldn't make much difference in terms of money as opposed to powercreep. Most decks become irrelevant after a year either way. Unless you're that one guy playing chain burn of course.
My unpopular opinion: Sychros were the last balanced and well implemented summoning mechanic. You had to have a tuner and a non-tuner, there were Synchros usable by every deck and deck-specific ones.
TheItalianoAssassino xyz were fine. The conditions for the most powerful ones are pretty tough to achieve. Most are just utility cards like norito, constellar ptomlemy and utopia.

I get really tired of hearing all of this "Oh, I can't combo off anymore! A True Dino field WITHOUT Toad and Shark? Ugh, Links suck". Yes, it may not be the solution we needed, and may not be the one we wanted, but damn it I'm so fucking fed up with every deck being able to make 5 monsters from the ED turn 1. Use the ED when it's needed, otherwise the MD should be fine. I do feel bad for the archetypes that require the ED, I do, but they should never have required it in the first place.
Damn your right. I mean it's called the "EXTRA" deck for a reason: its extra shit to pile onto your main deck, like the cherry on top. I had a feeling Yugioh was kinda going in a weird direction when Extra Decks were more expensive than the main deck.

You don't need links to play, you just need to play the game how its meant to be played.
It is called an *EXTRA* DECK for a reason.
The thing with Yugioh is after Konami took control of Yugioh from Upper Deck, Konami focused on mass summon style of playing. Once they started giving mass summons to decks, players began to lose with 7 turns alot more often. They further increased how much you can special summon and now players are commonly losing within 3 turns nearly all the time. To fix this they thought taking away 1st turn draw would solve this. It did not. It made it worse actually. Now they are in a bind, losing old players and not gaining new ones to replace them. So they devised Link Summon. Now they need to bring back 1st turn draw and it is a game again, almost.
So how much fun is that? I like the the Link monsters. They slow the game down significantly so that it can be more enjoyable. With the Link summon it forces the stronger decks to slow their roll while a mid tier deck can do some damage.

1) I'm calling it now: There's gonna be a March 2013 Banlist situation again, just to force people to play this mechanic even more than now.

3) I like Links, but I do agree some of the B.S. they put in there (Lock The Extra Monster Zone) is a little too much.
4) Links almost replaced Synchros due to their ease of summoning (No Tuners? No Problem).
5) Just like the other Extra Summoning mechanics, Link's gonna get some busted stuff that breaks the mechanic more than we already can.

I really was excited about Links, but the only thing I hate about it is when Konami confirmed that you can take BOTH extra monster zones, even though they clearly said from the start that each player can only use one extra monster. If they kept that ruling instead of adding the new ruling I mentioned. Since Stargrails might become meta when Dinos and Master Peace turbo in OCG are taken care of, they're going to be the first link spam archetype that will abuse this mechanic and lock your opponent form playing the extra deck.

Stargrails do have a link stargrail that has a marker that points up. It's the dragon that's a link 1 and has a marker that points up.
RanserSSF4 yes but all the links have to be in mutual link for you to get the other zone. Imduk can't be in mutual link because it only has one link marker

The problem is that in the past, no other summoning mechanic messed with another. You want to run synchros? Fine, doesn't mean anything to my ritual deck. Xyz monsters? Sure, I'll just fusion summon. Link summoning however forces you to play the way it wants you to, which for a CtG (or really any game for that matter), is a massive fail. It's a shame too, for I was eagerly looking forward to Link Evolution for Switch, despite it being a thinly disguised update to a game most of us already owned. As long as this mechanic exists, I have zero interest in Yu-Gi-Oh now. And I am sad.
This situation is 100% exactly what happened when the Xyz mechanic was first revealed. No one played them nor were they good at the time. Plant Synchro, Tengu Plants etc were still the meta until the March 2012 banlist completely wiped them out to promote the Xyz decks Like Inzektors, Wind-ups, Dino Rabbits etc. I can see that exact scenario happening for links. Konami will kill True King/Dracos and anything else during the pendulum era just to promote link mechainic. It's march 2012 all over again
My only problem with true dracos is not master peace. It's the secondary effects of spell/trap and monster removal that really gives the opponents a hard time. What's worse is that the tribute summon during your opponents turn is a stupid effect. You get profit for absolutely no reason. I don't fault people for playing tribute summon decks. I just have bad experience versing those types of decks (still have emotional scars from full power monarchs)

who still runs stardust dragon in 2018? Besides, if Stardust would have been the monster you needed more, you should have gone for that than rather than the monster in your extra zone now. BTW, just throw in a generic link to open up more zones to use. Spec summon-focused spam decks should have little to no problem generating enough monsters for both a link and then more synchro monsters. OH BTW, monsters only go to the extra monster zone if directly summoned from the extra deck. Your Stardust Dragon, after its first effect trigger, would summon itself back into a main monster zone, freeing up the extra zone it previously occupied. Interesting, aint it??

Well I meant the regular Yusei ace monster Stardust Dragon, not the archetype itself, which I know exists. Both Vee Clash's and my comment refered to the Stardust Dragon card, noone brought up the archetype.

If people in japan aren't really using links and then that extends over here then one of two things will happen:
1) They will change the Extra Monster Zone to the Link Zone and release the rest for the extra deck and keep releasing all extra deck summoning methods like in the Arc V era, and all the players will be happy (some won't, but they're never happy).
2) They ban the heck out of everything competitive that doesn't rely on Link Summoning.
Most likely will be number 2. Just waiting for True Dracos to get the shit hit out of them.

I liked the idea of the Extra Deck zone and the Pendelum nerf. It was the perfect way to balance out the game. But Links literally defeat the purpose of those changes! They spam monsters worse than those trolley Quaser builds from 5Ds and are pretty much unrivaled because the entire game is entirely in their favor

I originally got into the game/series when I was 12/13. I got out of the fandom/phase when I "lost" all my cards when moving (pretty sure my mother was tired of me and my siblings arguing over them). I am now 19 and during Thanksgiving week I bought some new cards and found the pendulum and link monsters. I didn't know how to use them so I took them out and put them in the box of cards I don't use/can't fit into my deck case and continued playing the game how I remembered from 7 years ago. I realized that I probably should learn how to use the mechanics so I looked up how to do both pendulum and link. Pendulum seemed easy enough...and hen i realized that was from before link. Ok, shouldn't be that difficult, right...wrong. To put it in perspective I just got finished with College Algebra and I despised learning how to do logarithms and never want to see them again...I would rather do logarithms again instead of actually utilizing the link cards as something other than bookmarks because watching the video of how they're supposed to work gave me a headache trying to follow it.
So yeah, whoever invented them needs to burn in hell.

I’m getting back into the game after err 20 years out, I rediscovered it. Let me just say, the game I left is NOT the game that is out. Not even sure how they are all under the same umbrella. They’re all too far different from the beginning to the end. I understand wanting to evolve but let’s be honest, they made a new game with in a game. What was wrong with the rules I grew up with? What was wrong with the mechanics? Nothing.

MY main gripe with link summoning is the enevitable link monster that will be so easy and generic to summon and have like 3 arrows pointing down. Like how pendulums were really restricitve at first, now every pendulum is generic.
Qli was the only restrictive Pendulum archetype in the early days of It.And most Pendulum monsters are technically generic but they don't have any synergy so It's not completly generic.

i just dont know why they had to butcher pendulums the way they did. we've had like arguably 2 and a half "tier 1" fully dedicated pendulum decks since theyve been introduced and like 20 flops. if pendulums were so broke shouldnt pendulums have dominated the whole time?
By that logic, yes. However, a handful of Pendulum decks had Archetype P-Summoning restrictions, or were laughable. If it doesn't fall into these categories, it was a good Pendulum Deck (Exception: Preformapals, but even that was basically a "Infinity or Bust" Deck)

It shows that the issue is specific cards and not the mechanic itself. like people thought igknight were gonna be busted, and now with the new rules they become objectively laughable. personally i think that with the new rules all pendulum and pendulum related cards should come off the ban list.

Pendulum summoning IS broken. Pendulums are not. Remember PePe? Yeah. Qliphorts? The mechanic of pendulums is 100% broken because you can lose all your monsters one turn and bring them all back the next turn like nothing happened. However with all this said the reason we don't see them is because they have been kept in check, usually they get garbage support and archtypes so it doesn't get a chance to become so overwhelming.
Its the individual cards bro. you look at any pendulum archetype that was "dominant" and you can point out the cards that "broke" it. 90% of the time it was a card that generated or helped generate ridiculous amounts of advantage. And cards that break advantage mechanics exist for every class of card and are subsequently banned. Being able to "bring the monsters back" means nothing if you lack the resources to bring them out in the first place. Xyz and Synchros only need 2 cards and with those you can further synchro and xyz evolve. with pendulums you need to draw 2 appropriate scales and a monster with a level between the two. These are also hard draws as opposed to being able to fetch the monster from the extra deck adding another layer of possible inconsistency. Out of hand you inherently went negative 2 to get 1 monster where the previous 2 summoning methods are -1 at the worst. Pepe was broken because it had cards that grossly abused its ability to generate advantage in a similar way that zoodiac can/could. You had single cards that would replenish and fuel a pendulum summon by itself and totally negate whatever negative advantage that the summon itself would be. Cards like joker and monkeyboard then interactions of cards like plushfire and luster pendulum in addition to the pot of greed play of just setting scales with lizardraw an guitartle. Pepe was broken because of the cards. With Qliphort however Id argue that its power was attributed to its ability to play under floodgates which crippled the rest of its competition and the fact that qliphort towers had very few reliable outs when it was meta. you even admit it yourself by claiming they are kept in check by bad card design. Its not the mechanic, its konami and the way they continuously bound power creep.
How to deal with link summoning decks:
1. sidedeck ground collaspe
2.use non extra deck achetypes (lightsworn, monarch, anything with ritual monsters)
3.rinse and repeat

My main thoughts: Buy a playset of every link monster that comes out. Nobody wants them, but someday they may actually end up being used in every deck as essentials. Just look at cards that we never thought we would use such as MX Saber Invoker. Leave no card behind, give them all the benefit of the doubt.

As someone who atm plays a deck that, given the chance, can flood the field with a million special summons and potentially win in one turn, I love that link summoning prevents me from doing that. I'm also quite happy that which zone you place your cards in matters more now, as I always thought that would be a cool mechanic to think about.
To get players to play Link, Konami could be releasing a list in the vein March 2012. Brace yourselves.

Xyz are my favorite "new" type of monster. I love being able to splash something into my play without having to compromise my card choices. If there's a fair number of monsters of the same level in your deck, you can toss in just about whatever Xyz monsters you want. That's fun, generally speaking.
So if you summon into a link zone, can you use the effect of Senate switch to move it into a different zone that can't have an extra deck summon?
This whole link mechanic doesn't bother me at all. What bothers me is that there isn't enough space for the extra deck. Konami needs to bump it up to at least 20 now. Anyone agree?

I agree completely. I'd also add a Banished Zone and make it impossible for the opponent's Extra to be Linked out because that is unfair (would be fixed if every Link monster had an Up arrow). Cimoo went on for 13 minutes bitching about almost nothing just like everyone else:
5:29 BA was always too floaty (spamming 3 Dantes on first turn) so it deserves Links. The deck is decent enough with Fire Lake, and now they can get Cir and Graff to 3.
6:15 Synchro based decks that summon multiple Quasars are never fun to play against. Their long turns are remniscent of FTK Exodia. They deserve Links.
6:49 Zoodiacs abuse Norden+Fusion Substitute and Terrortop (both help many other decks), so Zoodiacs deserve Links.
9:05 Synchro only started with Tele-DAD (Plant Synchro, X-Sabers, and Blackwings were later).
XYZ only started with Wind-Ups (Dino Rabbit, Inzektors, and Hieratics were later).
Pendulums were ignored when Shaddolls, Tellarknights, and Yang Zings were introduced (Qli's were later).
Trickstars are already being used.

I think that Konami fucked up with links. The game develops further away from the basic game. I always look at soccer. Soccer is so popular and loved, because it is so easy - it has basic rules and is easy to understand. Once links are out newcomers will have an even harder time. It's stupid. They had to fix pendulums and reduce space in the extra deck + nerf field spells and get the stupid strong effects out (who wants to deal with super duper strong boards turn one bc of one rat...)
But without new summoning mechanics the game would have probably died out a long time ago.And Pendulums didn't needed to be nerfed.They were never really that meta relevant and the reason that those decks were meta was mostly due to other stuff.But I do agree yhat they reallly need to stop making OP field spells.And Zoo was a problem but Link summoning doesn't fix It.It just increases the problem.
The difference between link and pendelum is that link destroys many decks. Pendelum just is an addon
I guess I'm one of the weird ones that truly enjoys the new format and link summoning. I had a ton of fun playing a local with my Cyberse themed deck. Didn't do too bad considering I've only been playing a month or so. Video's pretty oldish now but, I think once people adapt to the changes it won't seem as bad.

Ben Wang actually dinosaurs are my favorite type followed by dragons. I just don't like the link format. if it didn't nerf the extra deck I would still play Yugioh, and 80% of the Yugioh players at my locals also are quitting because of that.

Here's some food for thought: the cards that already topped the meta due to their speed are having no issues whatsoever under Link rules. It only really solidly harms the funtimes rogue Decks that needed to make extensive ED plays to even keep up . . . Zoodiac can make multiple Links in a turn if they want to, True Dinosaur had the raw power to ignore it, Lightsworn and Dark World always do their thing with the same relative degree of disregard for whatever is meta at the moment . . . but if you want to play Synchrons, D/D/D, HERO, or Raidraptors, you just have to accept that your Deck won't have as much fun anymore. Oh, yeah, and RIP Burning Abyss.

Synchron, Blackwings, and D\D\D are actually not affected. its strange I know but they somehow managed to survive the list due to being inharantly Link Summon ready. won't be topping much of at all for a long time though until it's their turn for legacy support again some time in the future.
KyanbuXM D/D/D is safe how? the entire archetype are synchros and fusions that facilitate the summoning of other synchros and fusions links definitely get in the way there
Don't forget Heavenly Dragons/Zarc and Odd Eyes decks...
Now the fun of using them will get demolished..
Axis1247 D/D's are harder to play with links, but it is still possible. Instead of summoning many monsters from the extra deck at once on the field, you use them as materials to later bring them back from your graveyard. Plus, Décode Talker can be brought out to finish your plays. It is way harder than before, but still doable

stargrail is currently way to weak to make locking out the extra deck their only goal and it is probably the only thing they are able to actually do effectively since sitting on just 3 monsters opens them up to a huge L
the whole idea of locking your opponent out is to have an incentive to play link spam since links, even outside of stargrail, is a very weak mechanic and if you are able to put out resources to lock out your opponent then you should already win if your opponent isnt playing a main deck monster deck with disruption like blue eyes kozmo true draco or with just bigger monsters like the 3 mentioned as well as true king dino
Locking your opponent's extra deck isnt the thing that makes links overpowered, links in itself isnt a broken mechanical
doesnt make it any better you shouldnt be able to peremently lock your oppent out of the extra deck even when the card isnt on the field anymore

OCG has 4 link decks right? Trickster, Gouki, Stargrail, Cyberse/protagdeck. arc v started off with 1 pend deck and then qlis attacked the next set.

Gouki and the main protagonist builds hasn't been relevent at all and Trickster don't even touch the extra deck at all barring an appropriate rank 4 for the situation IF they need to use it
