Thailand's military under scrutiny over treatment of conscripts

The treatment of military cadets in Thailand is under scrutiny, as thousands take part in an annual recruitment drive.
The armed forces have been accused of allowing abusive initiation rituals.
And some families of dead cadets are speaking out.

I do support the opposition quotes that military recruitment should be voluntary not a compulsory task. The only reason the army want this scheme ongoing is just to make sure that they still gain control in power of the country.

Idk about Thailand, but in Brazil it's compulsory and it has nothing to do with the army wanting to be in control.
However I do get what you say because it's a monarchy over there and there might be such interests behind.

Looking up the internet, I found that this is not military service but rather tge opposite, a prison with torture and abuse. I feel sorry for these guys.

They treat the conscripts like their slaves. A lot of them are serving as household workers in the house of the generals and other leaders. They would get beat up as their superiors please. It’s no surprise. Thai doesn’t have what you would call a cast system but they sure have their own classes and hierarchy. The royals will always be the royals. The generals will have all his family members as generals. If I tell you I am the son of a general, you better fu off and listen to what I tell you. It’s the prevalence in the society.

I'm in conscript in Thailand 2015-2017 it have some abuse but not that bad there will break your mental and physical when you in first 2month basic training infantry another 1month is you battalion training I'm in field artillery 155mm when you pass all things all trainer will be a normal person we live like brother only very bad like escape the army and don't do anything in the army rule (a lot of time) will have beatup and punishment and we have worked like help people in flooding or help famer or make home for poor people and have company size training very3month3-7day training and battalion training very 6 month7day training and very year combine armed training when I'm reserve i think my normal life it just easy a lot for me only those guys that don't follow the rules or escape will have bad filling if you don't break the army rule
