outstanding service! How an airport employee should guide someone who is blind with a guide dog!

  • As a completely blind individual, traveling like this with my guide dog through crowded airports without eyesight can be extremely stressful and challenging. The airport always provides assistance for me to get to and from my gates, find restrooms, food etc., but not everyone is as helpful as James! James did an exceptional job clearing the crowd of people in front of me and guide dog Arabella. He provided me great audible cues and feedback for me and Arabella to follow, and was just a joyful personality to help make the chaotic situation less stressful.
    When you have no eyesight whatsoever, and you are trying to travel through a chaotic environment, all of the noise that surrounds you can be overwhelming. During this video I was trying to pay attention to James voice, handling my guide dog and keeping her on track, all the while videoing with my iPhone in landscape mode in my right hand trying to remain steady and aiming the camera lens in the direction of things I hear. I know I didn’t sound stressed in this video, but trust me, adventures like this can be exhausting. I have learned to take a lot of deep breath’s and stay present in the moment. I’m never afraid of traveling blindly alone, but it does require a lot of patience, strength, a positive attitude, and a lot of faith! I find my joyful attitude is also key to having a positive and rewarding experience! Thank you James, you definitely made this leg of my trip a joyful one! Other airport employees could learn a lesson from your awesome guiding skills! 💛
