Even though I may not receive the most perfect assistance, with every need of mine being met the way that would work best for me, you know what? I have learned how to take a deep breath, lots of deep breath’s LOL, and approach each situation with grace and joy. My daughter has been watching your channel with me for a couple weeks. I noticed her playing with her dolls (and a small dog for one of the dolls), like she is leading the person with words and giving explanations to what's around the "blind" doll. She also gives the "dog" the command to "hop up". 😆 Its been so fun to listen to her and I can tell she's been in tune to what your saying both to people and Aribella. Your channel is amazing in so many ways Joy. Thank you!
Oh! My! Gosh this is so precious and beautiful!! Love love love so much!!! May I ask how old your daughter is? Tell her that Miss Joy and Arabella say hello, truly so amazing to know she has listened and picked up on so much information through my videos. Sending her such huge hugs for being so observant and for possibly being a future sighted guide and assistant to a blind person maybe one day 💛😄
@@JoyRoss She is 8 years old and she is going to be THRILLED that you sent her a hello! I can't wait to show her your comment when she wakes up tomorrow! She calls the "guide dog" Aribella (of course!) when she's playing 💞. I love to hear her giving those verbal directions, I feel like she's thinking harder & in a different way through play and that's really thanks to you!

I would love to send your daughter something in the mail. I know it sounds crazy, and I don’t know if you would be up for it, but it would make me happy. I will tell you, but keep it a secret haha. It’s a sweet plush guide dog black or yellow lab stuffed animal in a Guide Dogs for the Blind harness, look forward to hearing back :-)
Victor was awkward at first but did a great job staying ahead of her and letting the dog follow. I can't stand people that walk NEXT to the dog with Joy...The dog can't follow you if you are not ahead of him. Anyways, I am sure it was lack of confidence in his English that hindered him to talk to Joy more often. I am a bilingual so I got his quietness.....You feel helpless in conversations when your vocabulary isn't that big.
I wear hearing aids as I'm moderately deaf but it's only now with everyone wearing masks that I realise that I rely a bit on lipreading plus speech is more muffled with a mask on so it's definitely harder for me to understand. Plus wearing a mask, glasses and hearing aids that sit behind my ears is a bit of a juggling act!
I saw a blind man with a cane leave his wallet on the table of a pizza place when I was a kid. He had just left and forgot it. Ran 3 blocks to give it to him. I love to see people help you, even though you don't need very much help! I'm amazed at your independence, but thankful for all the kind people who offer to help. Thanks for another wonderful video
Watching these videos makes me want to guide a blind individual in my city. No opportunity has arisen but I just want to make sure everyone has the best experience possible.
When he said "You welcome" to her nice to meet you, I smiled...He seemed like a nice kid who was having a slight language barrier. I just wished people would tell Joy to STOP for a minute when they stop....Majority of the people expect her to stop when they stop.
GDAE BB it’s easy to forget a lot of people may not have guided a blind person before & everyone has different preferences so even if they are trained (which I don’t believe to be the case) it’s a learning experience
@@misshipster98 I agree wholeheartedly. We learn so much on how to assist the blind from watching Joy's videos, such as, asking if they would like to grab hold of your elbow, communicating clearly etc. And so im thankful for the new found knowledge. We just have to remember that not everyone watches her videos and are pretty much clueless, in a sense.
The flight attendant who sat with you to eat was such a blessing. I work with an organization training other service dogs and I was in disbelief at 21:15 with the owner letting their dog pull all the way out from the leash and approach sweet Bella. Her harness clearly identifies she is working. The owner did nothing to pull their dog away. It’s not like you could have seen the other dog.
Oh, she was such a beautiful blessing! And I know, I deal with this all the time with other people and their dogs in public places. Arabella did great though, but this is the hard thing for me, I am unable to know when there are other dogs approaching. It’s really hard to judge in those moments what I need to do
I've always been aware of people with disabilities when travelling but your videos have made me extra vigilant and will now always offer help if I see an awkward situation occuring..thank you for teaching us the correct way to approach situations ☺️
I love that!!!! Joy is a choice. You are Joy. I admire your choice to spread joy. even in times that it would be completely acceptable and understandable for you to not be so polite and joyful. Youre an incredible human being. Youre an inspiration darling. much love from washington state XOXO Cassie
I'm a service dog handler as well. I have a channel here on TH-cam posting about my life and issues I come across. You're so sweet though. I love it!!! I've been watching you for what feels likes forever now. And I think this is the first time I've ever commented. Lol.

@@JoyRoss Ahw thank you Joy. You are seriously one of the sweetest people I think I've seen in the service dog and Disability community. Watching your videos and how you handle and approach the public make me want to do better myself!
hi, I am Mandy and I am from Illinois. I am blind, but do not have a service dog. Could you please tell me what Eileen, the flight attendant was doing when petting Arabella? And, what was Arabella doing.
Joy, you have the patience of a saint! Someone from the airport needs to tell the second employee who assisted you how to wear a face mask. He spent almost the entire time with it around his chin. Also, I’m confused why he told you there was only a BBQ restaurant when there was a smash burger literally right in front of you. I’m glad you made it home safely!
I agree, and about the food options, that was the frustrating part, I had no idea that there was a Smashburger next-door until after I got home and had a friend review the footage. Oh well, it worked out the way it was supposed to :-) I had a wonderful encounter with the two beautiful individuals, they truly made the frustrating moment of finding food worth it all :-)
He was nervous and there was certainly a language barrier present. While viewing this video I was reminded of how well James in a previous video assisting you did such an awesome job guiding you. I haven't worked with a blind client who has a guide dog yet. Working with the blind has heightened my awareness of my surroundings. I also find myself walking around thinking of the barriers, turns, and other possible fall risks someone could face. I admire your determination to be independent as possible. I have shared your videos with the clinicians who are on my team to help them become aware of the obstacles the blind faces to teach them how to guide safety and respectfully.
He said there was a burger place...Joy even said it back. He also said there were lots of burger places around. He just failed to mention the name of the burger place. Don't know why he could say McDonalds and not the name of the other burger place, Smashburger. Maybe he couldn't read it as he didn't seem to know a lot of English.
I know right? So beautiful and such a blessing, especially the sweet flight attendant who helped me with my food and getting to my next gate, and the gentleman who volunteered to help out with my food and paying for my meal. Oh my gosh, these unexpected beautiful encounters truly touch my heart and encourage me when I am feeling a little overwhelmed
@@JoyRoss there was also a lady who spoke up when old mate said the wait for bbq would be 30mins. She called out to him and set him straight I think, because after he spoke to her, suddenly the line was 'shorter'. Just another unsung hero haha! She looked so invested what was going on. I could tell she was going to say something haha!
Literally just balled out...she’s got so much confidence as a blind woman. Honestly. Made me appreciate my sight so much. Having to rely on an animal and the odd helpful human must be such a hard way to navigate though life. God bless you.
That was really sweet of him to do that for you Joy. It's always good to show help/compassion even in the smallest of ways. It can truly go a long way.
Wow that’s so nice of him to pay, God bless him, and Micheal is so handsome too 😃. Despite what the mainstream media want you to think there is a lot of very kind and compassionate people in this world.
Michael and The flight attendant were so kind and lovely. I hope the airport staff also learnt something from this experience. These videos taught me so much about how to help someone with limited or no vision.
Ahh.. Joy.. I have so much respect for you. I am a veteran flight attendant who has had many blind or deaf passengers on board. This video gave me so much insight on what it must be like to actually travel with a disability and how it's super important for us, who work with disabled passengers, to take our time and to make sure you are comfortable and understand what's going on. Thank you so much for sharing this video.. you have definitely given me a new perspective on what it must be like to travel without sight. I hope you are doing okay during this pandemic and wish you nothing but the best♥️ A big kiss and hug from Holland
Definitely a challenge to travel as a blind person. I give you credit for taking on that challenge. I don't think if I were blind that I would tackle that task alone. You are an amazing young lady with a ton of patience. I think it would be interesting to see a video of how you read the comments and if you check out other videos on TH-cam. If you do I would be interested to know which type of videos interest you. Thanks again for posting for us to get an insight into your world.
These videos have opened my eyes to how badly people lead those who can not see. This whole video I wanted to jump in and help lol. None of them did a good job leading her IMO. I love her positive vibes through all these videos. Thank you Joy for being so amazing.
Thank you, I love life no matter what I’m facing. I could literally be experiencing the greatest challenge in my life beyond the challenge of navigating through an airport completely blind, no matter the circumstance, we always have the choice to choose joy! I always say, Joy is more than my name, it’s a choice, an attitude of the heart :-) God bless
yes, I wish I could meet her. Trust me, I have always had dreams about meeting her, ever since one of my friends got me to like her videos. When I watched her videos, the Disney ones, which is what I really liked, it made me want to meet her. What does she look like? Sorry, but I am blind myself. I am Mandy from Illinois. I was born this way. That's why am asking.
That manager dude wasn't wearing his mask over his nose, and the guy who took your food order and the helpful passenger had them off as well. Seems they think being blind means you can't hear. Victor and the woman who helped you were both properly masked, though. Pretty much everyone else in the airport was, too.
Actually a lot of people think that wearing a mask prevent people (with and without disabilities) to hear. I can expect that from "normal people", but workers shoudl know better
Today everything went wrong in my life, but watching this video made it so much better. Thank you for sharing your happiness with us. You're amazing! Hugs from Brazil
Hey Victor, I am so sorry you had an unjoyful day, but so so so so so happy my video made it much brighter and more joyful!!! I pray things get better for you, believing is seeing! Don’t ever lose faith no matter what you’re going through, the best is yet to come, that’s what I always say. Oh, and choose joy, no matter what, we always have that choice. Hugs and blessings :-)
Great of those people helping you. There needs to be more people like them. They bring, joy, and soda you to our world. God bless the people who were helping you. Great job Arabella. As well as Victor, and Eileen. And, I can't forget Michael, the passenger who paid for your lunch and bought it for you. Such great people, may God bless them. And you
All the people who were so kind to Joy and helped her really warmed my heart especially Eileen who made sure she ate and got to her gate in a timely manner!
Support animals should get their own seat/floor space (free of charge). It's ridiculous that Arabella has to be crammed between other people's feet and under yours.
After getting so irritated with the people trying to aid you through the airport, it was refreshing to see such kindness from the people that bought and helped you with lunch
I definitely agree with other comments here, watching your videos makes me more determined to help those with any disabilities or even those just having a tough day. I was raised to be kind to others but also after meeting my darling husband he has constantly reminded me to care for strangers by stopping for broken down cars and elderly with groceries. And the more we do, the more we find that we are the ones benefiting and enjoying lovely experiences of meeting the nicest people. Your channel is heartwarming, educational and eye-opening. Keep up the amazing work, we are all behind you and eager for any content you can give us xo
It's not unheard of, some blind people choose to use a wheelchair in airports just because it's easier in a crowded place when they can't hear well or could get disoriented easily. Molly Burke is also a blind service dog user and she made a video explaining that a lot better than I could. It's not that they think the blind person needs it, I think it's just courteous to ask. Hope you check this out :) th-cam.com/video/hm3oMbXdHyo/w-d-xo.html
I travel with a blind person all the time and maybe they do have a reason behind it but I’m not convinced. They always seem really disoriented and annoyed when you tell them that you don’t need a wheelchair and can walk.
It's not that shocking. They simply think it'd be easier for her and it's easier for them to guide her to her destination. It's not meant to offend or be rude. It's just about trying to handle it in the easiest and least stressful way for everyone involved.
For a second I thought that was a SUPER handsome Michael Keaton! Holy crap!! There are very kind people in this world! It's hard enough for a fully sighted person to navigate an airport, bathroom, food, etc. and be on time. I can't imagine being fully blind, dealing with masks, etc. Great job! Thanks for sharing this journey. You must be exhausted at the end of the day!
I work at walmart and I remember helping a customer who was blind back before all this covid -19 and the lady was very nervous and asked if she could put her and on my shoulder and walk her to where she needed to go and I did i didn't want to just leave her so I walked with her the whole time she went shopping made me feel really good doing something nice for someone ....i just have to say you are awesome and are an inspiration to everyone ...thank you for sharing your experiences
I had the same experience but backwards. I'm a manager at a very popular pet supplies retailer & got called up front to assist a customer with getting her dogs RX food and an occupying treat. I was so nervous I was shaking because I didn't want to offend or upset her but I didn't know how to properly guide her. (Uber driver brought her in & she was guidless). I had to tell her I was so sorry but she would have to teach me how to help her & she told me to grab her elbow & walked me through the process after laughing at my nervousness & saying it's usually her who is overwhelmed. Now she calls the store to inquire on my schedule so she can come when I am there and I am so thankful for the relationship we have and the things she has taught me in the past 3+ years. I encourage people to experience the world through someone else's senses and try to live in their shoes.
@@misstuxbrandi thats awesome ...im not gonna lie I was very nervous as well but I didn't want to make her nervous I so I tried my best not to show it ....im not really a people person always keep to myself and hard for me to talk to people in person face to face and that day she took me right out of my comfort zone they say but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

You've changed my outlook at assisting people. I over think situations and think I may be over stepping boundaries and then end up not helping someone. Of course every situation is different, but I would have more confidence assisting a person who is blind because of your videos. Thank you for that!
Lol I don’t know why I laugh when people say sighted words like this way or that way, or start pointing when giving direction. But I would never have realized any of that if I didn’t sit on a 3 hour flight with 2 blind people a few years ago. Mind blowing. But now seeing people speak that way from your point of you is so silly to me. These videos are great!

I believe Victor tried his hardest. It’s not easy helping someone while the language barrier being there. Anyways glad your back Joy! RWA ❤️
Also a struggle because masks muffle sounds! Hard time hearing and talking sometimes
chloover 100% agree thankfully she has Arabella by her side!
It was the
"Nice to meet you....
You're welcome! "
For me
It was the
"Nice to meet you....
You're welcome! "
For me
I wear hearing aids as I'm moderately deaf but it's only now with everyone wearing masks that I realise that I rely a bit on lipreading plus speech is more muffled with a mask on so it's definitely harder for me to understand.
Thanks for another wonderful video
as someone who has no disabilities besides anxiety and depression, just going outside is hard. you give me hope that i can do more than i think i can.
Just a language barrier I think he did a pretty good job
Watching these videos makes me want to guide a blind individual in my city. No opportunity has arisen but I just want to make sure everyone has the best experience possible.
That is so awesome! I pray one day you have the beautiful opportunity :-) thank you for caring
I'm so glad he took you in the elevator and not the escalator!! He seemed like eh did an ok job, just very quiet!!
It’s really hard to judge in those moments what I need to do
I've always been aware of people with disabilities when travelling but your videos have made me extra vigilant and will now always offer help if I see an awkward situation occuring..thank you for teaching us the correct way to approach situations ☺️
yes! sometimes i am afraid to be a bother but Joys awareness is so helpful for me to know its okay to step in and offer help
I love when you were on the train, everyone around you got up from their seat to make sure you were able to find one ok!
some of this is cringy. i feel your confusion and frustration yet you keep such a positive chipper attitude and never complain. i admire your patience
Yes LOL, and thank you so much. Joy is a choice :-)
Lol.
Oh that is so awesome! Thank you, so happy you finally commented!! I will have to go check your channel out, please comment again, love getting to know each and everyone of you with every new video. Hugs and blessings :-)
I'm Joy's personal friend, I just subscribed to your channel! :-) ♡
@@JoyRoss Ahw thank you Joy. You are seriously one of the sweetest people I think I've seen in the service dog and Disability community. Watching your videos and how you handle and approach the public make me want to do better myself!
@@gayle9362 hello
hi, I am Mandy and I am from Illinois. I am blind, but do not have a service dog. Could you please tell me what Eileen, the flight attendant was doing when petting Arabella? And, what was Arabella doing.
“Get in front of her”, “oh the dog”. I cried.
I heard him say burger once but he didn't repeat it
I agree, and about the food options, that was the frustrating part, I had no idea that there was a Smashburger next-door until after I got home and had a friend review the footage.
It was so frustrating watching this. I can't imagine how it must be for her.
They we're all so sweet. That is just amazing he paid and helped. What a nice guy.
@@MsAllthenamesaretake I saw her she looked so confused when the man was saying how long the line was.
Omg when Michael said “it takes one to know one” so sweet😭🥰
Victor was so sweet. He did his best and was so kind 💗 and the second guy was sweet as well and did his best.
You have the sweetest personality! And you’re doing an awesome thing by putting these videos out there to educate people!
Literally just balled out...she’s got so much confidence as a blind woman. Honestly. Made me appreciate my sight so much. Having to rely on an animal and the odd helpful human must be such a hard way to navigate though life.
God bless you.
I don't know why but I love watching these
That was really sweet of him to do that for you Joy.
Joy sounds like such a sweetheart!! You have such a positive admirable attitude. I give you 100% respect!
Arabella is a good service dog
The best!
Ahh..
I hope you are doing okay during this pandemic and wish you nothing but the best♥️
A big kiss and hug from Holland
Definitely a challenge to travel as a blind person. I give you credit for taking on that challenge. I don't think if I were blind that I would tackle that task alone. You are an amazing young lady with a ton of patience. I think it would be interesting to see a video of how you read the comments and if you check out other videos on TH-cam. If you do I would be interested to know which type of videos interest you. Thanks again for posting for us to get an insight into your world.
I love how the man stood when he saw them on the train. Small things like that give me hope for humanity 🙃
These videos have opened my eyes to how badly people lead those who can not see. This whole video I wanted to jump in and help lol. None of them did a good job leading her IMO. I love her positive vibes through all these videos.
Thank you Joy for being so amazing.
She is so happy. You could tell from her voice.
@@MrMandygirl12 Aw. Too cute!!
@@JoyRoss thank youuu
hope that u are ok now
@@onlyplus8925 yes, I am. Thanks
And you
I'm so happy that you are managing all alone and your dog is so lucky to have you as a best friend. Love you
Joy: “Nice to meet you!” The employee: “you’re welcome.” 😂🙈
Oh come on now, he’s trying.
That was hilarious 😆
All the people who were so kind to Joy and helped her really warmed my heart especially Eileen who made sure she ate and got to her gate in a timely manner!
Wow. Amazing and so inspirational. It's so nice you are travelling and enjoying life. Such a brave young woman. Will pray for your safety.
Thank you so much :-) God bless you
Why was this so fascinating? Lol. I watched the entire video.
It kind of stunned me that they assumed you would need a wheelchair because you’re blind.
Hope you check this out :)
th-cam.com/video/hm3oMbXdHyo/w-d-xo.html
I travel with a blind person all the time and maybe they do have a reason behind it but I’m not convinced. They always seem really disoriented and annoyed when you tell them that you don’t need a wheelchair and can walk.
It's not that shocking. They simply think it'd be easier for her and it's easier for them to guide her to her destination. It's not meant to offend or be rude. It's just about trying to handle it in the easiest and least stressful way for everyone involved.
These videos are honestly a joyous celebration of life and humanity, I love it.
Everybody loves Arabella. There are many nice people in this world.
Oh my gosh how sweet was he! Tears 😭
Joy, I am so happy that you came across of such a nice person who bought your food. There are few and far between. God Bless him. And I am glad you had a good trip.
When I watch Joy, it makes me realise to never put limitations on yourself and to just get on with life as best as you can and you really are a blessing Joy and the loveliest lady ever. Love you so so much xx
oh man i did not think i would tear up... thank god for Michaels kindness and you Joy manage to do it all with kindness and a smile, an inspiration to all!
The flight attendant was so nice. I don’t know that you would have made it to your flight on time if it wasn’t for her and Michael!
You've changed my outlook at assisting people. I over think situations and think I may be over stepping boundaries and then end up not helping someone. Of course every situation is different, but I would have more confidence assisting a person who is blind because of your videos. Thank you for that!
You are so amazing you such a beautiful personality may God always bless you
Lol I don’t know why I laugh when people say sighted words like this way or that way, or start pointing when giving direction. But I would never have realized any of that if I didn’t sit on a 3 hour flight with 2 blind people a few years ago. Mind blowing. But now seeing people speak that way from your point of you is so silly to me. These videos are great!
Victor did a pretty good job helping her but was quiet. The blind girl was really sweet and so nice 💕Her dog was beautiful and did an awesome job❣️I don’t think I could do what she did and I’m not blind. She has a great attitude!! Love that beautiful dog! God bless her and watch over her and her dog 💖
I agree, and thank you so much for your kind words :-)
You're so sweet and kind. A wonderful way to you!
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and I cannot express how much I’ve learned about blindness and ways to help and assist someone who is blind, which I think should always be taught everywhere 💜 Your positivity is incredible
Wow, that is so amazing to hear! Thank you thank you so much :-) God bless
Ahh you’re welcome ! God bless ✨
aw she's so sweet! Everybody that was on your trip with you, did a very very good job helping you. I think my favorite person or people, on this whole trip with you, was Eileen and Victor. Actually, I think I like all of them. They all did a splendid excellent good job.

Oh my gosh. I am exhausted FOR you! You must be absolutely spent after a day like this!
I am so very glad that this experience was much better than the last one for you. I hope you and your family have a blessed day.
Love that you share this! I always watch your videos , but this one I watched with my husband and we had a very deep conversation about the struggles of people with disabilities... And how we could do things differently in order to help and make it more accessible.. like in our daily jobs.

One thing I have learned from you Joy is if I ever guide a blind person with a dog, talk with them let them know you are with them. Talk about anything or what you are passing. Thank you for your videos.
Why do I like watching you walk through airports 😂 maybe it’s your sweet voice ❤️😂
I love your videos! Keep them coming, girl!💖
Great video dear Sweet Lady! It irks me to no end any restrictions to not except dogs for blind ppl this dogs would never bite anyone less you try to harm her master!
