    i cannot believe that the intersections you cross dont have beeps for blind people.

      I also live in Florida and most crosswalks have beeps. Some even have a voice that says “Cross/go” and counts down the time you have left to cross (this is more common in high traffic areas)

    They NEED to make these sound cross walks! All of the ones in my town have been updated for that to help the blind. Hopefully they will soon for you guys.

      Challenger Girl Vlogs yeah! I was really surprised that they didn’t make noise here. I’m from Dublin and all our pedestrian crosses make a noises for when to cross, and the buttons that you press also vibrate if there’s too much noise. I thought that was done everywhere, because it should be.

    • @ChallengerGirlVlogs
      @ChallengerGirlVlogs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Julie Ten agreed!!! Honestly it's very wrong on the town's part for not updating them yet for these major intersections. I just hope these videos perhaps will reach its way to the right people to have them changed.

      In England, when it’s time to cross it makes a beeping sound, and by the button if you place your hand underneath there’s a knob that spins which indicates when to cross aswell.

    • @seraphina985
      @seraphina985 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hollie Mae The beeper can be omitted on some crossings usually when several independently operated crossings are close together such as at busy crossroads which generally have 2 or possibly even 3 crossings within feet of each other which don't all operate in sync. The beeper then could be a hazard as it's difficult to tell which crossing is actually signalling safe the tactile feedback is more specific and safer in those conditions.

      Sofia Brown thank you, it was truly scary! It takes a lot of faith and a lot of confidence to do something like that when you are completely blind. That is why I got very emotional after we made it to the other side safely. It’s scary doing a task like this anytime, but especially after only working with Arabella for three weeks.

      Thank you so much, everyone tells me all the time how beautiful her eyes are. And that was a very emotional Crossing, did you see the clip I had edited out of this video that I posted in the following video? You’ll actually get to experience the fear I was feeling when I first attempted to cross the intersection. I ended up dropping my camera halfway through because I panicked. That’s why this Crossing you saw was super emotional. I was celebrating because it was the third time I crossed it and we did it with confidence!

    • @punkchica321
      @punkchica321 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll have to check that out next! I've been just clicking on random videos of yours. :) I know it's always said we take what we have for granted, and I know I definitely do. So I love to see how other people, with different challenges(IDK if that's the right word to use or not) navigate the world. When you'd be new area Antonia wasn't used to, did you still feel a bit safer than you do with Arabella who's still new? Or is it always the same kind of fear because, like you said, they can't tell you when the traffic has stopped and it's safe to cross.

    I love how she looks up at you with her beautiful eyes so often bless her. Such a shame you have to work so hard to cross the street. In the UK all traffic light crossings have a small textured cone under the box where the button is which you can touch while you wait and it spins when the lights have changed to red and it should, theoretically, be safe to cross. Some of these crossings also beep. The only crossing points without a signal are on smaller roads or have a zebra crossing where drivers are legally required to stop if they see someone standing at the crossing.

      The problem with the smaller streets is that often drivers feel the need to speed through. I live in a street full of houses with 2 primary schools near. Despite there being a lot of speed bumps cars speed through like there is no tomorrow. It's horrible for people who are old,unable to see and kids. I am happy with the main road infrastructure but I feel side roads in more residential areas need improvement.

    I really wish people put more care into crosswalks and the beeping sounds. There was a school for the blind where I lived and the city it was in,mainly the surrounding area, had them but most the time they never worked! Drives me nuts. Stay safe joy.

      Adam Blackwell for sure, a person needs training on how to read traffic and cross safely before attempting it on their own. And even though I have crossed at this intersection with Antonia several times, I wasn’t confident to cross it with Arabella until I had accomplished it a few times with an instructor. And no matter how many times I do this, is still always a little nerve-racking to say the least LOL.

    I was waiting to hear the beeps signaling that the walk sign was up.... I just assumed that the signals everywhere had loud chirps when the walk sign is up like they do around my house. I'm not blind, but I can imagine How much harder it would be without those chirps!

    • @Mel-id7yq
      @Mel-id7yq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I was sainting for the same thing. Where I live the crossings chirp aswell. Furthermore, the button also starts to vibrate when it’s safe to cross, so that blind people can’t get confused at intersections with multiple crossings.

      Patricia Pp that really means so much, that is why I create these type of videos. A lot of people do not understand blindness and many of them view blindness as a death sentence. I want to open the eyes of the world to see that blindness can be amazing and beautiful! Yes it is scary at times, yes it can be very challenging at times, but through my loss of eyesight, I have gained so much incredible vision, Independence, confidence, freedom, and blessings. 💜

    Her eyes are absolutely beautiful. Out of this world beautiful. This made me cry i couldnt imagine how scary that would be. Is there any way people can email or call the council to suggest traffic light/pedestrian crossings there? Its a busy road and it seems dangerous not only for blind or disabled

    Joy. I am learning so much....I thought guide dogs knew when to cross the street....I didn't know that it was up to the handler. I would be so scared to cross that intersection....it's HUGE...and I have my vision! Congratulations on getting your trusting companion Arabella! She is a GREAT dog!

    Oh my god it's scary crossing streets even when you can see, I can't imagine how hard it is for you! So stressful, so much trust in your ears and your pup! And to have to learn to trust a new pup again.....you guys are doing so well and Isabella is such a good girl. May she lead you safely!

    Awesome, both of you. I live in New Brighton on the Wirral, across the river from Liverpool. The very first guide dog in the world was trained here. They created a dog school that trained dogs to guide men that had been blinded in the war.

    You started crying and I’m seriously empathic so I started crying too, you are so brave and I love that you do these videos, everyone should know how to help the blind, when I was very little, I lived with my grandmother and grandfather; my grandfather was completely blind and I learned very early on to give verbal cues for every little thing and I loved helping him to “see.”

    So proud of both of your bravery! I'm sure its much easier now if this is a year old video. I also want to offer my condolences on the loss of your other dog. Pets are hard enough to lose but when you rely on her like that it has to be so much worse.
    So many questions (they are just me being nosy and none of my business) about how you adapt your life skilks. Handling cash for example. Knowing how to tell if something is clean. Knowing how to tell if a pot is about to boil over or otherwise keeping safe in the kitchen. Do you have help setting things up? For example putting the cereal in the right container where you can find it? It fascinating and im sure quite clever the things you do differently.

    If that had been Antonia, she would not have wanted to go outside before getting her puppacino!! It won't take long for Arabella to get "addicted," LOL. You do an excellent job of keeping any fear that you might have crossing that busy street out of your voice. Always being upbeat certainly has a great effect on your dogs

      Thank you, and yes, I couldn’t do anything I do without God giving me the strength and the faith. Did you see the other video of the Starbucks trip, talking about this scary moment when I crossed the intersection and the clip I had edited out of this video? If you really want to hear how scary and emotional this moment you just witness was, you have to watch this other video I’m linking below.
