    The reason someone might wear hoodie and sweat pants is if you are specifically trying to acclimate to be able to perform in the heat. If you live in a cold place and are going to be competing/racing/deployed somewhere where it's hot, you need to train to be able to deal with exertion while hot. I learned this from reading an army ranger pre-deployment guide talking about training in advance of being deployed to desert or tropical areas where you should specifically overdress in training to simulate hot environments. Likewise, if you have a race the first hot day of the year, and you've been training in the cold all winter, you might get zapped because your body isn't used to dealing with overheating. It's just another level of training, training for climate. But yeah, don't do it all the time and without reason.

      Yes, you are completely right! Heat training is definitely an important technique/preparation and sweat pants would definitely keep you very warm! So many different factors for clothing, I agree 😊

    I like to watch your videos while foam rolling at night. I chuckled at this video because I have made many of these same mistakes. For example, I now have a few sets of track pants made of synthetic materials that I can use for cold weather running and a few sets of cotton/fleece sweats for relaxing. I learned this through trial and error. I think your video could help some beginning runners avoid these pitfalls.

      I’m glad I’m not the only one who has done some of these 😂 It’s definitely my hope to help others avoid making the (many many) mistakes I made when I was first starting to get into running!

    Aww your baby bump is so cute. Congratulations!!! Great video as usual. I'm guilty of doing some of these things like wearing the hoody when I first started running but when I got addicted, I revamped my running wardrobe little by little by rewarding myself for different accomplishments. I also wear my stance socks a couple of times before washing them. Glad I'm not alone.

    I started running about a months ago and I have only been wearing thin, 100% cotton socks that are not meant for running by any means but I haven't got blisters so far. They are really breathable and my feet dont get sweaty but I'll definitely invest in some quality ones that are designed for running and are double lined❤️

    • @amyspurrcaveney
      @amyspurrcaveney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I’m glad you haven’t gotten any blisters! I just think if we spend so much money on shoes and then wear not appropriate socks, we almost cancel out our awesome shoes! Hope running is going well so far though!!

    I respectfully disagree using race day shoes as only race day. I like to do my long runs in them occasionally and i don’t think thats hurting anything mainly because I believe in the “nothing new on race day” and even though i’m running easy saturday morning that is the prime time for me to test out new gels / gear and see what will work for me come race day, so I like to check in on how my shoes are feeling on those long distances

    • @amyspurrcaveney
      @amyspurrcaveney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fair enough! Sorry my video wasn’t clear that I also test out the shoes (and race clothes) before the race, as I also believe in nothing new on race day! I’m mostly talking about using race shoes for every single run, as that’s really hard on the body and you will burn through the shoes very quickly that way!

    Hi Amy! Love your videos, can you do a video on dealing with mental blocks during a long run? I am an experienced runner and have run a few half marathons. I struggle doing long runs alone and would like to know what you do to help that combat that

    For the race shoes, how would you recommend to break them in ? Could that be why some people might be seen in public simply walking or during easy run workouts? Would you recommend breaking them in during an interval session pre-race? Thanks so much for this video and congrats on baby runner!!!

    • @amyspurrcaveney
      @amyspurrcaveney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With race shoes (or shoes in general!), you don't actually need to break them in :) Ideally you are already training in a shoe that has a plate in it and has a similar heel drop, so your body is already used to it and most likely won't create any issues on race day. With brand new shoes (never raced in them), I like to do one workout before race day (nothing super long) just to test out the socks I'm going to wear as well. I would never go for a walk in my race shoes, as they're meant for running and wouldn't really prepare you for running in them. Hope this all makes sense! :)

      Depends on the temperature! I always pretend it’s a little warmer than it actually is outside. It might be initially chilly at the beginning of your run but then you will warm up once you get moving and you don’t want to get soaked from being overdressed!

    I think at age 59 I should’ve stop running in Carbon Plate running shoes. I like the lightness and cushion so much. But yesterday nyc 26.2, all part of groin, hamstring and quad hurt so bad after mile 13. Walk 2/3 of the way to Finish.

    • @amyspurrcaveney
      @amyspurrcaveney  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh I’m sorry to hear that you were hurting so much and had to walk! Carbon shoes are definitely harder on the body. There are still some good shoes out there without carbon plates! The Speed has a nylon plate. The ASICS super blast also doesn’t have a plate and uses their racing foam.
