The year was 2.018... The guy listen a 18 minutes-long song... And, at the end, he says: "It´s over? No... No... Noooooooo!" This is Pink Floyd... Nothing less...
I love Dark Side and Meddle and Wish but...damn. Animals has always been my favorite. I tried to deny it but the current political climate only cemented this album. Hard listen but sooooo worth it. I will upvote this shit EVERY TIME
i saw Pink Floyd in 1975 in Vancouver Canada and had no idea they would go on to be one of the best bands on the planet, i wish i kept the 12 dollar ticket stub
Yup, it don't get the love it deserves. My favourite along Wish you were here. The wall doesn't even get third spot in my book - that goes to the B side of Meddle (Echoes!!!).
exactly right my friend, first time I heard Animals it was on loud headphones and I didn't know it was the Floyd and then instantly became my favorite Floyd album. " pink floyd just different man " lol
I listened Animals for the first time when I was doing sociology classes. Words can't describe how intelligent, deep and powerful this album is. This is I call it Art, with capital A!
I first heard animals during the setup for Rick Derringer All American Boy, i was completely blown away. I had listened to Dark Siide of the Moon, but this blew me away. I will be forever in my older brothers debt for taking me to that concert
"Who is on the guitar, bro?" Well, the answer is probably the greatest living guitar Legend on earth - David Gilmour. Make sure you bow in front of the man when u see him...
"Pink Floyd is different." Truer words were never spoken. David Gilmour is the guitarist, Roger Waters is the vocalist, Nick Mason is the drummer, and Richard Wright is the keyboardist. No other musical entity comes close to their epic, extraordinary, unique sound. Thank you for your reaction and wise words to describe them and this song. Epic masterpiece!
Usually Dave Gilmour did lead vocals or harmony lead vocals with Rick Wright. That's Dave on the first half lead of Dogs, Roger Waters on the second half lead vocals starting with" gotta admit I'm a little bit confused. Roger wrote most of their great stuff.
Roger Waters wanting more lead vocal parts is a lot of what broke the band up. It started with this album, but on the Wall he was so demanding that the other guys didn't even want to be there in the studio, and there are whole chunks of the album that Gilmour and Wright aren't even on.
THIS WHOLE ALBUM is a masterpiece. It is Roger Waters take on people. They are either Dogs Pigs or Sheep. When you get a chance listen to the whole album, it's an experience.
Faraz Oloumi Its based on Animal Farm but was ironic because the book was about Stalinism in the Soviet Union (communism + evil dictator = oh no) but the album turned it around by making it about capitalist societies like the UK and America. Its really interesting.
I remember me and my friends sitting in someone's basement passing around the bong (around 1978). With a speaker in each corner, Animals was like riding a roller coaster.
yes, we were spoiled in the 70ies. pink floyd, led zeppelin, deep purple, emerson lake & palmer, yes, genesis, electric light orchestra, queen, uriah heep, black sabbath, david bowie, allman brothers band, neil young, the who, peter frampton, rush, jethro tull, king crimson, frank zappa, greatful dead, kraftwerk, rainbow, rolling stones, ufo, santana, supertramp, roxy music, t. rex, rory gallagher, eric clapton, the band, focus, thin lizzy, lou reed, eagles, cheap trick, iggy pop, fleetwood mac, alice cooper, scorpions, ramones, billy joel, ac dc, chicago, kiss ... and many more ...
And that is just our music. I've been listening to a lot Brazilian bands and solo artists from the 60's and 70's. Gal Costa, Jorge Ben, Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, Novos Baianos.... frigging amazing music
You're wrong, bro. YOU are spoiled. You have all of Pink Floyd at your finger tips right now. And for free! We who grew up with Pink Floyd not only had to pay for it, we also had to wait years & years for the albums to be released. It is fun watching you experience all this for the 1st time. The best PF songs in my opinion have both David Gilmore & Roger Waters sharing the vocals, as this does.
What he meant by spoiled, contrary to what you say... he means today's technology and ability to access art... so shut YO mouth up Lucy and Shcroder, music is universal, it's been around since cavemen beat skins to keep the predators away and became ritual dances around the fire pit, hahah🤣😎🤘
so very true, we saved and payed for music and once we got it we played it a whole and blabbed over it. We definitely didnt lift the needle in the middle of a song just to scream: "listen how awesome this was"
I think you all missed it. Maybe I'm wrong but I think he's referencing all the great innovative music that was coming from everywhere then. Music now is sampled and tested for audience approval. And all the audience knows is garbage so garbage is what they like. Imho
I'm 54 and grew up listening to pink floyd. Saw them live 5 times and by far the greatest band ever. I love the fact that the younger generations are discovering them now and appreciating the artistry for what it is. Big Soul clap to you brother
Actually, it is the most "on-the-spot", succint description I have heard of Pink Floyd in the last 30 years. Either Pink Floyd hits those chords in the deepest, darkest wells of your soul or ut does not... I have not heard another band that has that effect. Different
Good for you ! I have my parents to thank for appreciating good music as well. I turned my dad onto Pink Floyd and Santana actually. He loved great guitarists that played with taste and feeling.
Pink Floyd were the MASTERS of the MIX; you can always hear every instrument, and the lead instrument. Amazing harmonies. Never too loud, and crystal clear vocals. Yeah we were spoiled, spoiled then and still are! Welcome to the brotherhood!
While Gilmour shines on this, let's also appreciate what Rick Wright is doing on the keyboards here... Immaculate song in all respects. Roger's vocals, the solos, the drumming by Nick Mason, the songwriting. All out one of my favourite albums ever.
@@AshfordAH1Z It's not David singing on most of Animals. David only sings the first half of Dogs, before Rick's solo. Roger sings the second half of Dogs, and every sung vocal on every other song on the album.
It is quite a thing when you can sit for 23 mins on one song and not even realize that time is passing at all because your brain has been transported to another dimension.
mikimike Question. What was the reaction like when this album came out? I consider it their very best album but I also wasn’t born until 1991. By then everyone realized this album was genius. But from I heard it got a lot of mixed reactions when it came out.
@@marjoryarmstrong6953 HI Marjory, not very long ago someone pasted a picture on facebook of a man with his dog on the beach and asking if he was local. The replies carried on and on and on. It was David Gilmour. Just hope he continues playing, there will never be another one.
Roger Waters (wrote all the lyrics) had some serious shit to say. I guess when you grow up in England in the ashes of WW2 authoritarians are frightening, and life is cheap and precious.
Waters' name is credited on all the songs which means he didn't JUST write the lyrics... He's the genius behind Floyd and their sound. Listen to how their sound changed after he left the band.
Mrk66One just the lyrics, musically didnt change much. Of course the later albums weren’t as good as the previous ones but it wasnt as bad as people say it. Remember, musically, Gilmour, Nick and rick were the geniuses. But its just my opinion.
You are right! We WERE spoiled growing up in the era of Pink Floyd…rock and roll was SO GOOD in the 60’s and 70’s! Pink Floyd is the best of the Progressive Rock era. You cannot dance to this kind of music. But it takes you somewhere. We used to come home from school or work and put on headphones, turn on all this great music, turn up the volume and get lost in the journey. It was a form of meditation. It opened our minds. Where did these talents come from? Heaven, I think. That’s how it felt. If you like this music….there is more of this genre to love! Not just Pink Floyd, either. Moody Blues, Genesis, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and YES, just to name a few! When I was in High School, one of my neighbors from my class got a Pink Floyd album in the mail when he joined a Columbia Record club. We had never heard of them before. He called me over to his house and he said, “you have to listen to this album!” We probably played that album over and over for a few hours. He had four speakers, one in each corner of the room, and he turned up the volume. We were mesmerized! He rolled a joint and we were gone. We hung out a lot in the early 70’s, just listening to the albums coming in the mail. Record stores were making a fortune back then! Everybody was introducing albums they had heard with everyone else, sharing what they had been hearing. We drove around in cars with friends just listening to the radio and tapes. We went to see every band who came in concert. Some of those bands would play for 4 hours or more in concert! And they sounded just like the albums…such talent! By the way, my neighbor friend became Valedictorian of my graduating class. That music expanded our minds!
Preston, I can't imagine what it must be like for you crash coursing on all this great music at a time when nothing new like this is being put out. Most of us discovered and explored these great songs bit by bit, spread out over decades. You've been guzzling from a fire hydrant.
Preston, I've been watching your "experiences" listening to music I grew up with and have enjoyed deeply re-experiencing the music almost as though for the first time simply by following your authentic, honest enthusiasm. It's a joy to see. As a few people have commented, they're jealous for what you have ahead of you: so much music from that era that was crafted for art purposes, not simply as a product, which is where the music industry largely is today for a variety of reasons. Album sales revenues back then, when Animals was made, were substantial, and that $ meant the record labels allowed artists to take months/years/$ to create works such as Pink Floyd's Animals, because the sales would support that investment. We're in a different time today, as we know. But...at the pace you're going, you literally have a decade or two ahead of simply taking in the massive amount of quality guitar-oriented rock music created in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s....etc. You have a wonderful, joyous journey ahead of you. Keep listening and we'll keep tuning in.
Yes...I greatly enjoy the purity and sincerity of Preston's reactions. One thing that's different when comparing his age to mine when I first heard this music is he's older, and his music-listening experience is broader than mine. I see that as an advantage that provides additional perspective compared to me when I was, say, 15. I had little perspective, so while the music was captivating, I couldn't see it (yet) as a part of a larger tapestry. The fact that he has more experience and then still finds the essential magic in older music is all the more impressive.
You Tube is awash with bloody reaction videos but this guy is an exception. I really get the feeling that he pays attention and appreciates what he listens to. And this particular video is one of my favourites. Celestial music coupled with absolutely terrifying lyrics, it can only be the mighty 'Floyd'
Amen! Of the gazillions of ‘reaction videos’ ... few are truly worth a crap ... this straight up honest man, is one of a small few that I’m subscribed to.
You are so right. A whole cottage industry has sprung up around people watching black people react to music, other that rap--I don't get it. I get the reaction videos of voice coaches analyzing great performances, but the rest is just weird. You notice there doesn't seem to be many videos of heavy metal fans reacting to great rap music.
@AshTheFlash100 lofi vaporwave and synthwave? Sorry but those cringy repetitive keyboard loops over hip hop beats with nostalgic cartoons with VHS overlays are absolute garbage to just about any of PF's work.
IMHO . I’m 46 and there’s a lot of great music I’ve heard. Been to many concerts like nirvana, GnR, Metallica , Aerosmith, Sabbath, Ozzy, Zeppelin(w/o Bonham) you name it. These guys are the best. No doubt in my mind. They might be aliens. They made music like nobody else
Pink Floyd live is/was amazing. I first saw Floyd in April 1975 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, NY. They opened with "One of These Days" from the Meddle album. They then asked the crowd if we minded if they tried out their yet to be released next album, "Wish You Were Here". We got to hear the entire album, in order a couple months before they released it to the public. They took a 10 minute intermission and came back and played the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album, in order. They left as the crowd was shaking the place for an encore. They came back out and performed a 40 minute version of "Echoes" from the Meddle album as the encore. I have seen hundreds of concerts in the years since but the introduction to Pink Floyd live still remains the most memorable concert that I have attended. It was a sight and sound extravaganza. I had eighth row floor seats and it only cost me $7.50 face price. By far, the BEST Concert value, EVER
That entire album is a masterpiece. It's like a fine dinner, opening song is the appetizer, last song is desert. Do yourself a favor. Sitdown, kill the lights so no interruption, put headphones on and enjoy the journey. That's pretty much goes for all pink floyd albums
All musicians agree-Animals is the master work. Dogs might be the best song EVER laid to tape. Waters brutal lyrics mixed with Gilmours emotional expression -priceless
Big time spoiled!! My son grew listening to my growing up music and he can name bands, band members and song names. He's now almost 40 and has passed it on to his friends, his wife and now children. Excellent music stands the test of time.
marroni ugelli You are so right and a lot of this songs really have a meaning. Not just words put together. Especially PF made not songs but albums especially Animals is telling a complete story with a message.
I was almost 17 when this came out. I saw them do The Wall twice (once when it fell down a bit too early and it was hurriedly rebuilt), but I'd loved to have seen the Animals tour most of all.
You got that right Bro. We are spoiled. Pink Floyd is Rock Opera. You have to listen Albums from start to finish. You Get it Bro.. Soul Clap to you from this 69 yr old Pink Floyd Buff.. Welcome to the Machine.
leafsfan1728 Doyle Braumhall II on the In The Flesh tour was amazing. His father played drums for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Anyway, Doyle plays the guitar left handed but he uses a right handed guitar so the strings are upside down.
Brah, your Floyd reactions are by far my favorite. I'm diggin' the impact this amazing music has on you...nothing else like it. Now imagine being a 16 year old trippin' balls in a blacklight room listening to this for the first time. Mind altering is an understatement. That intro still gives me the chills every time I hear it. The guitarist and vocalist is the incomparable David Gilmour. At the age of 72 he can still bring an auditorium of kindred souls to tears with his guitar. I've seen him on three of his solo tours, starting in 1984, and every time his performances leave me feeling blessed for having shared such an amazing experience with others.
I always tear up😢 when they say "in the end youll pack up and fly down south, hide ur head in the sand. Just another sad old man. All alone. Dying of cancerrrr" reminds me of my dad so much
Just went to a Roger Waters' (Pink Floyd's bassist) concert here in Costa Rica, it was the greatest thing that I have ever seen! A truly experience, you have no idea what listening to "dogs" and "great gig in the sky" is like, I cried through out the whole concert, and I'm not kidding!
I saw Roger Waters perform in Minneapolis. The memory of seeing Great Gig in the Sky live is surpassed only by the moment I first held my daughter. Epic!
David Glimour Is my favorite guitarist because he puts so much feeling into every single note, but there are so many great guitarists out there. It all depends on your mood and your taste.
Definitely agree, though he may not play crazy sweeps or anything there are almost no other guitarists that put as much emotion in their playing as he does
Absolutely. A concept album dividing / representing members of society into 3 different animals ; the predator, the prey and the scavenger. Such a cool album!
Ive always said that Pink Floyd's music isn't something you simply listen to, it's an event that you experience. Their music crosses reaches into you soul.
Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time and has been since I was in 5th grade back in 2007. Dogs is also my favorite song ever just in general. To see someone completely new to this song and seeing those first-time reactions is something I'd do anything to experience again. Masterpiece. As I always say, the worst thing about music is that you can only listen to a song for the first time once. Rock on, bro. 🤘
I think I was in the 5th grade when I fell in love with them also. However, that was 1980. I have not hesitated sense when someone asks me of what my favorite band of all time is. I tend to think Shine On is my favorite, but I do listen to Dogs a lot more. Shin On has such a positive message that has helped me get through some tough times.
Echoes needs to be in your life as well. Looking forward to seeing you react to more Floyd stuff. It's like hearing it for the first time all over again for me. You mention at the end that you can't wait to share this with someone...that's exactly why I keep coming back to you and other reaction channels - I get chills watching facial expressions change as they are overwhelmed by the beauty that is Pink Floyd. Keep at it, Preston!
PINK FLOYD “DOGS “ is the one and only song that even the fans underestimate. It has everything that PF has in its arsenal. Since I first heard “DOGS” I’ve been looking, looking for a way back to a time when I never heard it before. So I could sit, listen and recall what it’s like to hear for the first time. Enjoy it, because you have in your soul. And like me, this...........music will never leave you...GM,
Animals is really meant to be listened too in its entirety...preferably with some big ass headphones on, while sitting in a lounge chair with a glass of nice aged whiskey and a spliff. (or maybe that's just me)
Chuck Dinkins. It's not just you bro. It's not just you. Balvenie 12 year single malt scotch and some nice OG Kush for me. Pink Floyd is best when you create your own environment, sit back and let them take you on their journey. Like no other band.
I started dealing drugs at 13 and saved every penny to buy a Phase Leaner system with Acoustic Research AR3 speakers just to listen to Pink Floyd. I stopped dealing around 16 and just charged people to come to my house and listen to the best sound system they would ever hear in their life. I still get contacted from kids in my youth reminding me of listing to this album . SOme bastards broke in to try to steal it. My dog wripped into him and they clubbed her on the head and took off. She lost her eyesight in that eye. We are all dogs in the best and worst of ways
With Pink Floyd, it usually goes with us fans as “ this is our favorite song” to “ this is our favorite album “because almost all of their albums is an experience . Animals is an underrated wunderpiece.
David Gilmour on the guitar. I've been a Floyd fan for 39 years, and this is by far my favorite song. Would have loved to see the Animals tour. Saw them in 87 and 94. You are right, anyone who saw Floyd in the 70's was spoiled, and very fortunate.
@@Gigi_369 No - there's an 8 year old kid, Mitz Glij, from Betelgeuse who can play Gilmours solos forwards and backwards at the same time. Unfortunately most people who listen to him play don't survive the experience. His first concert was declared a national disaster and nobody went to his second one.
@@ryanv1279 huge fan of Santana too, so many phenomenal guitarists, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Angus Young, just to name a few. I’m just so happy all these people are starting to appreciate all the brilliant music of the past and sharing it with the world. 🌼
I forget sometimes that we grew up with this music playing in our homes, and how new it is to your generation. Floyd, Roxy, Genesis and YES. I’m glad you’re discovering some amazing sonic landscapes!
Tom Spot on mate. I think I love everyone you mentioned, and many more you could mention if that's your taste. Floyd for me have far more albums I can listen to all the way through. Even though some of the big bands wrote some of the best records ever, it's still very difficult to name more than two or three albums you would want to listen to from them. Stones and Beatles excluded.
I’m still amazed that there are so many people that have either a) never heard of Pink Floyd till now and/or b) Heard OF them and that’s where their knowledge of the band just stopped. It’s nice to see so many younger kids (I’m almost 48) discover them and be totally amazed. I’ve been a fan of Floyd for literally decades and I still love hearing their music. Now if all you’ve ever heard so far are just songs you’re HALFWAY there to understanding the real Floyd. They don’t tour that often anymore, but you can easily find them on TH-cam. You’ve heard and now it’s time to see. A Pink Floyd concert is truly truly incredible. Their concerts, if you were to imagine two half circles, are like taking the one half (sound) and joining it with the other half (visual) to create the WHOLE Floyd experience. One last thing you’ll notice is that Pink Floyd, out of all the bands and singers out today, yesterday and years ago are part of a small group of bands that are BETTER when seen live! They not not sound just as good as they do on an album, they sound even better!
Andrew Kinslow I grew up in Brooklyn in the 80s and 90s in the ghetto. I didn’t listen to this until I was 32 in a call center at work of all places. I was looking for music and my co-worker suggested this album to take away the stress of customer service. As a person that never listened to rock I gave it a shot and OMG, I haven’t stopped listening since.
“Animals” is essentially based off of George Orwell’s concept of comparing human behavior with animal representation. Pigs would be the political leaders, Dogs (which you just listened to) are the top businessmen and Sheep would be the mass. As far as the guitarist, it’s David Gilmour; he also sings lead vocals on the song.
You are so lucky. It's like watching someone watch Star Wars for the first time. You get to relive it all again through them. Floyd owned the 70s. 71 was mddlel, 73 was dark side, 75 was wish you were here, 77 was animals, and 79 was the wall. Unbelievable decade for unbelievable music by Pink Floyd.
I’m inclined to agree with all of the commenters who said Animals is the best Floyd album ever. I’ve thought the same thing since I first heard it in it’s entirety. It was The Wall on a double sided cassette tape played on a portable cassette player that got me through high school, but Animals still goes down as my GOAT. I always felt Dark Side of the Moon was just a bit too commercial and mainstream, but even given that, I’ve come to appreciate that one, as well. Meddle and Obscured by Clouds have quite a few gems between them, too. Floyd, to me, was the quintessential prog band, and I love your reactions to Floyd songs, because it reminds me of what it felt like to hear these albums for the first time. As others have noted, David Gilmour is the guitarist, and, I always felt, was responsible for the distinctive Pink Floyd sound. I never really gave much credit to Roger Waters ( bassist, vocals along with Gilmour, and primary lyricist for the band. But for some time, now, I have had to give him credit for the intense lyrical adroitness if the band. I think he just pissed me off because he was the primary driver behind the breakup of the band. But, I have come to accept that all good things must come to an end. I’m glad later generations can still appreciate their music.
Yo bro! I normally don't watch vids like this but being a massive fan of a lot of the bands you've reacted to, I'm loving watching you dig it and am so jealous of you hearing them all for the first time!!! Music is my God!!! TOOL is my religion!!! Cheers brother!!!🤘😛🤙
Man, I love all your reactions to this classic song. Fills my heart, spirit, and psyche with happiness to see another human enjoying music like yourself.
I adore your reaction to Pink Floyd. My first major intro to them was in 1998 when I was 15 years old. They will always be the classic rock band that I reference as my favorite band of all time, period, end of story. Dogs is my favorite of all of their outstanding, brilliant musical genius. It’s hard to have to pick one, but Dogs just has to be it, every single time. I love your appreciation for greatness in music. It makes my heart so happy! ❤❤ PS - I went on a researching spree over Pink Floyd too - I learned as much as I could about the band, the albums, the split, & the individual members. Pink Floyd went through many transitions over 3 decades. Nothing about the origin or the wind down of the band was liner, much like their music.
You could argue that Pink Floyd made experimentation mainstream. I love to see people get into this band, one of the greatest ever in any genre. David Gilmour is was their guitarist from their second album to the end. He also sings the main portion of the song and cowrote the piece, I Believe. Lyrics are by the bassist Roger Waters (who sings the final crescendo) throughout all their last 5 albums with him as well as most of that music. You'd also like the later Floyd - Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason though where Gilmour became leader of the band. As to their shows? They were amazing!!! I saw them11 times between 1975 and 1989. What a great band and experience each time.
I don't disagree with your first sentence. I would only suggest that their "experimental" period was up to and including "Meddle" From DSotM onward, they took all that they had learned from their experimental period and crafted a unique genre of rock. In all of those wonderful albums post-"Meddle", you can hear echoes (pun intended) of all that came before.
@@iacobustres8032 True though all of Animals and Shine On were pieces from the end of the experimental period and played live from around the Meddle period on so still 50/50 agreement. Dark Side and The Wall hold onto some experimental era interludes but the music is definitely more mainstream. I'd even say that I always felt that Shine on was like a continuation of Echoes!
@@lennon1482 True, but if you go back to 67 and the Piper at the Gates of Dawn or Saucerful of Secrets you're more psychedelic spacey and experimental and Floyd integrate it into the Music more systematically. Rev Number 9 is more a take on tape loops and other sound experiments going round at the time since Stockhausen (big influence on all rock and psychedelic experimentation straight through all Krautrock Bowie Eno etc) - elements of which you have in later more controled Floyd like the interludes and other sounds in Ummagumma 1969 or the More or Zabriskie Point soundtracks. But it's why I say that later floyd from Dark Side on made experimentation more mainstream. I wouldn't be surprised if Rev Number 9 was more a Yoko - Lennon idea .
Here is an interesting note. Did you notice that the first half of the song was sung by David Gilmour and the second half that starts with "I've Gotta admit..." is sung by Roger Waters. Very cool.
The reasoning for the two singing the song emphasizes the idea of the song. The Gilmore side shows us the "older" dog wanting to become part of the pigs and the Waters side, the "younger" dog taking his place. As the upcoming office executive. As the new power broker.
CMCguitars1 many people Don’t get that. They do it on a lot of songs. Like “Hey you”. They sounded so great together. Colossal shame that they don’t get along.
what's this?? the guy is discovering the Holy animals album?!!! congratulations man! it will change your prospective on how the music should be composed and played..and change you from the actual shit. enjoy..I can jealous you because can't turn back 30 years ago the first moment I heard DOGS..and was like...where I am???
Please, I beg of you to find 45-50 minutes and experience The Dark Side Of The Moon from start to finish. Each song blends into the next one and each song complements the other. It’s a case where the whole is much more than the sum of its parts. Imagine a great meal at a very fine restaurant, where everything joins together for an unforgettable meal. From the atmosphere and appetizer to the desert and dinnerware, where everything combines as a whole unforgettable expedience. Yes, you can just go in and order a salad, but you’ll leave unfulfilled. Almost every Pink Floyd album should be experienced from start to finish in one sitting. I applaud and appreciate your efforts in bringing new listeners to this great music.
Whaleyum I think final cut follows wall too. Been a while since I heard it. Somebody didn't return it. :( Cant think what's on it now. I know fletcher memorial home is on there. I remember it being a similar album
I grew up in the late seventies and it was crazy! It seemed like every week another classic, iconic, life changing album was dropped. It was too much, like an explosion of sonic perfection. You couldn't keep up. Every week another album by; Aerosmith, Boston, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Kiss, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Bad Company, Steely, Dan, Queen, Rainbow, ZZ Top, Scorpions, Neil Young, Ted Nugent, Rolling Stones, Genesis, Van Halen, Yes, Foreigner, Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and so... So many more. You should really experience the music the way it was meant to be heard. We listened to the entire album, not just individual songs. Especially Pink Floyd. Rock on Brother!
Hawkwind, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Marley, the Smiths, the cure, the sex pistols, the pretenders, the beat, madness, bad manners, the levellers, the Ramones, the cult, saxon, Roy Harper to name a few more :)
I used to fall asleep listening to this album in my headphones for years as a kid. I learned to sleep through the 8-track clicking over so it played over and over till I woke in the morning. : ) Animals is still one of my favorite albums.
The year was 2.018... The guy listen a 18 minutes-long song... And, at the end, he says: "It´s over? No... No... Noooooooo!"
This is Pink Floyd... Nothing less...
Oh hell yeah the real Floyd with Waters and Gilmore
I love Dark Side and Meddle and Wish but...damn. Animals has always been my favorite. I tried to deny it but the current political climate only cemented this album. Hard listen but sooooo worth it. I will upvote this shit EVERY TIME
Nate Williams This shit is so relevant to now. It was a brilliant concept back then, and now you listen to it and wonder why we never changed course.
i saw Pink Floyd in 1975 in Vancouver Canada and had no idea they would go on to be one of the best bands on the planet, i wish i kept the 12 dollar ticket stub
@@johnfranckiewicz8710 I'll bet you got plenty... me and my bros could only dream of stuff like that... and believe me we did
the whole Animals album is a masterpiece . 500 years from now it will still be played like Beethoven and Bach
Yes, agreed.
It will be forever, it has so much emotion in the music! Agreed!
They really where the Mozart and Beethoven of their time. Nobody else was playing like them.
Yup, it don't get the love it deserves. My favourite along Wish you were here. The wall doesn't even get third spot in my book - that goes to the B side of Meddle (Echoes!!!).
You're not wrong!
Animals is usually the last album Floyd fans get into and it is usually the one album they will love most one day!
Nailed it. Didn't give it a real listen til my last deployment, and now it's my fave.
i'm very fond of the album OBSCURED BY CLOUDS. but i have to listen to it at chipmunk speed. it gives it a completely different vibe.
Polecat54941 you are so right. I found animals after Dark Side, The Wall, Momentary Lapse, Division Bell, Echoes. Animals is my absolute favourite.
So true
exactly right my friend, first time I heard Animals it was on loud headphones and I didn't know it was the Floyd and then instantly became my favorite Floyd album. " pink floyd just different man " lol
As a life-long Pink Floyd fan, I have always considered the Animals album to be the artistic pinnacle of their career. Peerless.
I listened Animals for the first time when I was doing sociology classes. Words can't describe how intelligent, deep and powerful this album is. This is I call it Art, with capital A!

"Who is on the guitar, bro?" Well, the answer is probably the greatest living guitar Legend on earth - David Gilmour. Make sure you bow in front of the man when u see him...

His solo stuff is pretty bloody good as well - On An Island is kind similar to Dogs, but David Gilmour's own work.

"This an experience!"
Roger Waters is the lyricist*
Roger Waters wanting more lead vocal parts is a lot of what broke the band up. It started with this album, but on the Wall he was so demanding that the other guys didn't even want to be there in the studio, and there are whole chunks of the album that Gilmour and Wright aren't even on.
david gilmore was also the vocals and guitarist on first opening.
I'm jealous, cause you still have many Pink Floyd songs yet to discover lol, David Gilmour on guitar

Its based on Animal Farm but was ironic because the book was about Stalinism in the Soviet Union (communism + evil dictator = oh no) but the album turned it around by making it about capitalist societies like the UK and America. Its really interesting.

Lived the same life I think in the 70s we were all doing pretty much the same thing
Preston, I can't imagine what it must be like for you crash coursing on all this great music at a time when nothing new like this is being put out. Most of us discovered and explored these great songs bit by bit, spread out over decades. You've been guzzling from a fire hydrant.

Pink Floyd is a masterpiece.
Ditto. Watching his reactions make me his age again (or younger) when the world of music was fresh and ready to be discovered.
Yes Sir...It is a real joy to watch these black folks experience these songs......It's like re-living it all again....
I grew up listening to Pink Floyd brother! Killer stuff! David Gilmour on guitar! Goosebumps listening to it again! Thanks my man! 🥁🇨🇦❤️

Dogs is a great, emotional cautionary tale of how not to live your life.

DAVID GILMOUR BEST GUITARIST EVER IN HISTORY IS ON THR GUITAR.. BEST IN THR GALAXY PERIOD!!
Anna Bulgariu...God’s Guitarist 🤗🌼
@@Gigi_369 No - there's an 8 year old kid, Mitz Glij, from Betelgeuse who can play Gilmours solos forwards and backwards at the same time. Unfortunately most people who listen to him play don't survive the experience. His first concert was declared a national disaster and nobody went to his second one.
David Deeley 😆😂🤣
Santana has him beat imo, listen to europa and canela before u disagree 😂😂
@@ryanv1279 huge fan of Santana too, so many phenomenal guitarists, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Angus Young, just to name a few. I’m just so happy all these people are starting to appreciate all the brilliant music of the past and sharing it with the world. 🌼
I forget sometimes that we grew up with this music playing in our homes, and how new it is to your generation. Floyd, Roxy, Genesis and YES. I’m glad you’re discovering some amazing sonic landscapes!
Welcome to the magnificent land of David Gilmour guitar solos!
In my opinion the greatest band that ever lived taking into account all albums.
Tom
Spot on mate.
I think I love everyone you mentioned, and many more you could mention if that's your taste.
Floyd for me have far more albums I can listen to all the way through.
Even though some of the big bands wrote some of the best records ever, it's still
very difficult to name more than two or three albums you would want to listen to from them. Stones and Beatles excluded.
Pink Floyd or Tool... Really couldn't pick between the two.
I wonder how many people have been turned onto Pink Floyd because of King KTF?
Ferrell Slowtalker me can’t believe I never listened to them before other than brick in the wall
Not enough.
A Pink Floyd concert is when you don't speak to the person beside you for two hours.
hahahahahaha.....brilliant.
I believe Dogs are supposed to be police forces and the army.
Pablo Howard I don’t believe so. You can look it up but even reading into the lyrics describes Dogs being businessmen
Roger sings the second half of dogs, FYI
Jared M you are correct. I forgot to mention that. The distinction is there
@@michaelsuder3217 My bad then. On Orwell's book the dogs are supposed to be the police, that's why I thought they used the same metaphor in here.
I just love the way you are so connected emotionally to this band! They are in my top 3 rock bands of all time!
You should check out Porcupine tree - Anesthetize (live in Tillburg). It's probably the closest you can come to Pink floyd from a modern band.
I've been suggesting PT for ages .....
Of all the tracks from PT that are amazing live though,Anesthetize ,imo is better from the studio recording
@@JWilks-lk7th Yes especially the solo is better on the studio version but seeing them perform that song live is just amazing.
Riverside, too. They even did a Floyd tribute called Back to the River.
Man, I love all your reactions to this classic song. Fills my heart, spirit, and psyche with happiness to see another human enjoying music like yourself.
Thank you for playing this song
It is one of my all-time favorite songs and album 😍😍😍
That whole album is in a class by itself, then again so is PinkFloyd 👍
We were spoiled. David Gilmour on the guitar. One of my all time favorite players.
Animals; Roge played the guitar David was on bass I'm pretty sure or maybe it was only for the 'three different ones'
ilia2010100 roger only played rhythm guitar on songs lead is still David

David Gilmour on guitar, the greatest
I'd even say that I always felt that Shine on was like a continuation of Echoes!
depends what you mean by experimental, revolution 9 on the white album was in 68 and is much more avant garde and being the beatles it was mainstream
Pet sounds, anyone?
Here is an interesting note. Did you notice that the first half of the song was sung by David Gilmour and the second half that starts with "I've Gotta admit..." is sung by Roger Waters. Very cool.
The reasoning for the two singing the song emphasizes the idea of the song. The Gilmore side shows us the "older" dog wanting to become part of the pigs and the Waters side, the "younger" dog taking his place. As the upcoming office executive. As the new power broker.
CMCguitars1 many people
Don’t get that.
The cool thing about the "stone" delay is that is comes back two songs later.
And in learning to fly and hey you :O
Richard Wild utter genius
Toast Servant The stone repeat loop DOES NOT appear on either of those songs, get your facts right 🙄🙄
@@trevorsanders5303 Just meant the word
it’s also mentioned on The Wall album
Dark side, animals, the wall, and wish you were here all bleed into each other. Their stories not just albums
Whaleyum
I think final cut follows wall too. Been a while since I heard it. Somebody didn't return it. :(
Cant think what's on it now. I know fletcher memorial home is on there. I remember it being a similar album
YESSSSSS!!!
David Gilmour is one of the best guitarists since rock n roll began.
The best!!
I used to fall asleep listening to this album in my headphones for years as a kid. I learned to sleep through the 8-track clicking over so it played over and over till I woke in the morning. : ) Animals is still one of my favorite albums.
Damn you played for your whole sleep? What a waste of batteries 🤣
