As a 61 year old man who is dying of two Cancer's and a huge Floyd fan, this song has a special place. I have the album cover art from the album "Dark Side of the Moon" above my name on my headstone. They are to play nothing but Pink Floyd at my Wake! I have no left Lung; no Spleen and nine Stent's in my Heart. So, I'm a short timer. If I get the virus...I'm DEAD! Like Queen said in their song "Nobody Lives Forever". If you promise to do more Floyd stoned, I'll subscribe! Cause I have Medical weed. At night I put on my headphones, put on a Floyd album and just zone out!! Peace! Stay safe my man!

She watched all 15 cassette tapes & kept them beside her VCR. I miss her everyday, she was the literal soul of my being. What's better than loving pink floyd?
Watching other people fall in love with pink floyd.
Seriously, it really is quite sad that some people will go their entire lives not hearing this genius.
Animals is my favourite floyd album, most of their stuff is way above the majority of any other band or artists greatest work; but animals is just something else.
I've never heard something so beautiful, yet so unapologetically angry and nihilistic. Roger Waters is a genius songwriter while this is the album where I feel the band are all on the same level, each members skills at their craft showing through.
'Dogs' can bring a grown man to tears if he understands the song, 'pigs' is the grooviest yet most scathing assessment of political leaders I've heard (and that funky middle section is pure head-nodding bliss) while 'sheep' is at times optimistic, yet seems to remind us that no matter what part of this social branding you're at, you're still not a perfect human being as there is no such thing. We're all striving to be something, whether it be better or worse, FOR better or worse, we're all still flawed individuals. All flawed humans are equal, but some flawed humans are more equal than others.
An absolute masterpiece, as relevant today as it was 40 years ago, if not more. I honestly believe everyone should be made to listen to this album at some point, even if they don't get the message (which would be hard as it really is a in-your-face message), just to hear how music can be, as opposed to this shite we have these days on the radio.
The day I knew modern music was dead was when my 8 year old daughter was quoting Little Mix by singing 'I hope she's getting better sex'. I just wish more people would open their ears, eyes and minds to pink floyd, rather than thinking 'it's old, got a guitar and I'm sure it's those who sing that cheesy song with the school kids' which is what I'm sure pink floyd have been branded as, a cheesy band that made that one song that everyone knows and won't explore what else they did.
    Their loss, I suppose.

' Loosely based on George Orwell's political fable Animal Farm, the album's lyrics describe various classes in society as different kinds of animals: the predatory dogs, the despotic ruthless pigs, and the "mindless and unquestioning herd" of sheep. Whereas the novella focuses on on bolshevism, the album is a critique of capitalism and differs again in that the sheep eventually rise up to overpower the dogs. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which, in the words of author Glenn Povey, "described the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of mere animals".'

A video you sometimes see with this is from a cartoon version of Orwell's ANIMAL FARM . But the album itself is pretty different . The mood of the album is closer to a play from years ago , called DEATH OF A SALESMAN . Its about , at the heart of the American Dream , there is - in the individual - this sense of futility and emptyness .

Pink Floyd needs multiple listens to hear it all... there is a lot of imagery and metaphor. This song has pain, excitement, hope, tension, fear, happiness, and hopelessness. The lyrics tell a story and the music is like a movie you see with your ears. Think about the story they are telling and then imagine what they are trying to say with the music. Animals is one of their best. But, I could never pick a favorite. Really happy to see people still enjoying this music.

Was my firts time in Uk in my job, and one day I decide to take a day off, a pause to just walk into pubs and loosing myself in the tube. I literrally lost myself so I had to go out to the surface...I will never forget the sensation, The Battersea Power Station was there, beside the Thames river, and i could imagine the pig flying there. When i went back to the hotel searched the entire album, and the I listened this song ... it was december 2009, it was snowing, beautiful, I cried, I still crying listening this Gilmour´s guitars. Roger Waters did it on his recent tour, which was by far one of the best gigs I've ever been to. He recreated Battersea Power Station inside the area, using screens, and projected onto the side of it. Surreal as hell but very effective. Absolutely superb night, one of the best nights of my life.

Can you imagine anybody getting away with that today? Animal rights groups would be all over you.

    Animals: the songs.
Roger Waters drew his inspiration from the reading of a political fable, Animal Farm, by the English writer and essayist George Orwell. In this satirical work published in 1945, the author violently criticizes the excesses of the Soviet regime, then led by Stalin, as well as the October Revolution which established it.
Except that for Waters, history will not deal with the communist USSR, but on the contrary with capitalism and liberalism to the limit. He then kills two birds with one stone, angrily tapping on the system and responding skillfully to the punk movement which wanted to be the new standard of social criticism.
    Dogs :
Originally named You Gotta Be Crazy, Dogs denounces the “watchdogs” of capitalism, which are traders, golden boys and other ambitious and greedy yuppies. All these businessmen constitute the pillars of world finance and aim to establish the sustainability of the system put in place by the "Pigs". Their dress style and attitude are mocked (And after a while, you can work on points for style. Like the club tie and the firm handshake), as well as their pushiness (You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to, So that when they turn their backs on you, You'll get the chance to put the knife in). At Floyd, all this is futile and derisory in the face of the fragility of life (And in the end you’ll pack up and fly down south, Just another sad old man, All alone and dying of cancer). The “dog” nevertheless seems aware of his own condition (I gotta admit that I'm a little bit confused, Sometimes it seems to me as if I'm just being used), and of the fatality of this situation (Who was told what to do by the man, Who was broken by trained personnel, Who was fitted with collar and chain). Dogs is Animal’s longest track at 17 minutes, occupying most of the A side and is a strong message to critics of progressive rock, including the punk movement which wanted to be the new standard of social criticism.

It helps me listen with new ears, if that makes any sense.
Pink Floyd is sublime, and there is a lot to explore.

You definitely don't want to do it if you have people around that are negative, say scary Biblical stuff, trying to bother you or starting any kind of strife.
You want to be around other positive people, that are happy & not always starting drama?! 😆

Animals is my favorite Floyd album. Loosely based on George Orwell's "Animal Farm". The record is one long story about classes. You have the "Dogs" who are Police/Army/Strong arms. The "Pigs" are the politicians, and the sheep, of course, are the people. Lyrics are amazing. This album is really the masterpiece for Gilmour. His guitar carried this album. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

I don't think it's an alternative translation of Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. It's a critique of aspects of capitalism/materialism. Orwell's book was a critique specifically of Stalinist style communism in Russia. Orwell always regarded himself as a socialist and fought with other socialists in the Spanish civil war on the Republican side.

I have to say that was the best and most emotional PF Dogs reaction I've seen! You really looked like you enjoyed and felt the crap out of that song. Like I've said in the past, their songs will resonate and will be interpreted differently by different people. You had the same look I had when I first started listening to them back in the early 80's. Now, get your friends together after this quarantine and get them to smoke a little and then play this song for them. You can watch THEIR reactions and feel the joy as well. Have a good day brother!
