You said this had Led Zeppelin vibes, but this album came out a year before Led Zeppelin's first album. Just a fun fact, not hating, I wouldn't expect anyone to know that. So Led Zep had The Doors vibes! 1967 was a great year for music man. Jimmy Hendrix's first album, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Otis Redding, Traffic, the Four Tops, etc...
Don't forget, The Grateful Dead came out with their first album, self-tilted. Not their best because they were still learning to be a band. But that got the rock-a-rolling....
Also the Velvet Underground & Nico and David Bowie's debut LP (although the latter really wasn't any good). True 1967 rock fact: on the day that I was born, George Martin recorded the orchestra track for the Beatles' A Day in the Life...
Oh man....please do more Doors reactions!!!They are most definitely one of a kind. I so agree with you that they take their time, they are more about the journey. Jim Morrison was a pure poet. He also came at a time where music was cookie cutter, and he called things for what they were. He made it possible for music to be sad and deep. I look forward to watching you do more of them! And while your are at it...I would absolutely love if you did a Janis Joplin reaction. Please??? 🙏🏻 She is literally my favorite singer. She is from this same era(my personal favorite). Ball and Chain is amazing.
"Father, I want to kill you" "Mother, I want to f**k you" These are taken directly from the classic tale of Oedipus Rex. And that's exactly what he did, although he was not completely aware they were his Mother and Father at the time of doing so.
I'm 76 so I was in my 20's when they were recording. The end was written for his breakup with his girlfriend He wrote an recorded another one like this called When the Music is Over hope I got that title right Jim Morrison Though of him self as a poet. I don't think he drew a sober or clean breath after he became an adult. After he died in France I think he was 27 the doors cut another album but with out Jim it didn't do well. They made a movie about his life a must see for all doors fans
The Doors are incredible my dude. The End is one of my favorites but you should check out When the musics over, Peace frog or riders on the storm. In fact there are to many to list.
IMHO, "The End" is the G.O.A.T. of the Doors discography. Don't lose sleep trying to decipher the song. Just let the sound of the words pour over you. They have a music of their own.
1.When The Music's over 2. Light My Fire This two songs highly recommended. First one is trippy, you will go through different moods. Second one is lots of solos, beautiful, sexy and energetic.
@@GirlWithAnOpinion in the middle of the song, Jim retells the story of Odipus (he killed his dad, so he could marry his mother). The gratuitous over-use of the word "fuck" left the crowd speechless (this is late '60s, btw). As soon as the set was done, the manager kicked the band out. The rest is rockstar history.
I love how genuinely excited and interested you were in this. The Doors have quite a catalogue and while this is certainly one of their best, trust me, you have a whole world to discover in them.
I know your “where we goin?” was rhetorical, but in case your curious, the answer is Vietnam. “The blue bus is calling us” is a reference to the blue buses that would pick up draftees and take them to boot camp. This was released in 67’, probably when people were still being drafted left and right.
I had forgotten that fact. You are absolutely correct and I was wrong. The "Blue Bus" was indeed a reference to the induction center busses. Thanks for that piece and the correction.
Doors, Led Zeppelin, old Sabbath, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, should be listened to stoned, on some good weed. It has so much feeling, good for your soul. BTW, " Not to touch the Earth", by the Doors, is one really cool tune!
Doors are superb..Jim was a poet, and Ray Manzarek on organ is fantastic. Go with Riders on the Storm next..⛈🌩⛈🌧⛈💥 but you have a lot of options with this lot.
The double time beat towards the end..after Morrison sings about meeting him at the back of the blue bus..that beat? It’s been said that in ancient times that those rhythm patters would send shamans into a trance and that Morrison would often also go into a trance during that section of the song as well..when that double time beat starts..it’s on and I love it every time.

I also caught a Hot Tuna concert in Michigan where we got to help carry their instruments inside the building and catch the show:D For those that don't know, Hot Tuna is a band Jorma and Jack from Jefferson Airplane had after Airplane went Starship and commercial, and bounced to keep playing the bluesy music they loved.

You HAVE to Do... THE DOORS ~ "Light My Fire LIVE Official Video" It was on the famous Ed Sullivan Show. On September 17th, 1967 Jim Morrison and The Doors went on The Ed Sullivan show to play their hit Light My Fire. The catch was the producers wanted them to change a line of their song. Sullivan didn’t want the word “higher” sung on the show. The demand was passed down through one of the show’s producers, who met the group in the dressing room. Manzarek remembers the band publicly agreeing like choirboys. ” ‘Yes, sir,’ we told him,” he recalls. “‘Whatever you say, sir. We’ll change.’ [The producer] looked at Jim and said, ‘You’re the poet. Think of something else - ‘wire,’ ‘flyer.’ “ Well as you can see in the video at 1:50 The Doors sang the line just as they always did. Ed Sullivan was so mad he wouldn’t even shake their hands. On September 17, 1967, Jim Morrison solidified his place as a poetic rebel. Before the band was to perform “Light My Fire” on The Ed Sullivan Show, Jim was specifically told he couldn’t sing the word “higher” on air. As Robby Krieger explains, “We thought they were joking - who were they kidding? Wanting us to change the lyrics on the number one song in America? We decided to just do the song as-is and maybe they would forget all about it. What could they do? After all, it was live television! So, yeah, we never played the Ed Sullivan show again. But we didn’t care.” When the Doors got backstage, they learned they wouldn’t be back - ever. “The producer said, ‘You promised,’ and we said, ‘We were so nervous, we’re just boys, we’ve done it a thousand times, it just came out.’ He looked at Morrison and said, ‘Mr. Sullivan liked you boys. He wanted you on six more times." John Densmore added that Ed fumed, “’You will never do this show again,’ after we’d directly disobeyed his censorship requirements. Jim turned to him and remarked, ‘Hey, that’s okay - we just did the Ed Sullivan show.’” And the rest is Rock N Roll history.

Women, Love Her Madly, When The Music's Over, The Soft Parade, Roadhouse Blues, The Crystal Ship, Riders On The Storm, Break On Through, People Are Strange, Back Door Man, Wild Child, Soul Kitchen, Texas Radio and The Big Beat, Five to One and Not to Touch the Earth. Just a few suggestions for you. Keep up the great work KING KTF!
Azor Ahai They have so many great tracks...I'm worried he may have set the bar too high out of the gate with "the End" but there's still lots for him to dive into.
@@leafsfan1728 I tend to agree. The End is like the pinnacle. But When the Music's Over, L.A. Women, The Soft Parade and Riders On The Storm could come close to that pinnacle.
It has to be their song Riders Of The Storm next....
That's the other one!
And then touch me or unknown soldier
Riders On The Storm. Sorry, just had to fix it. Love that song.
When the doors of perception are cleansed everything will appear as it truly is... Infinite
This is such a great song. Excellent lyrics. Excellent instrumental as well. Puts you in a trance almost. Long live the Lizard King And oh yeah 1st!!
Did you hear the story about how Jim snuck into the studio after recording this and doused the entire place with an 🔥 extinguisher?
You said this had Led Zeppelin vibes, but this album came out a year before Led Zeppelin's first album. Just a fun fact, not hating, I wouldn't expect anyone to know that. So Led Zep had The Doors vibes!
1967 was a great year for music man. Jimmy Hendrix's first album, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Cream, Buffalo Springfield, Otis Redding, Traffic, the Four Tops, etc...
I rember those days never a full day of music . Great times .
Sounds like White summer black mountain side in the first part of the song
not to mention dozens of garage rock bands that have been lost forever for some reason.
One of my favorite songs, You killed that reaction. You heard it like I heard it.
Apocalypse Now: whitey tighties, whiskey, martial arts, punching mirrors, handgun....this track. Quite an intro to an epic film.
And that showdown between Lt. Willard and Col. Kurtz is brooding.
Return the surfboard and no one gets hurt.
How come you guys sit on your helmet?
and those poor playboy bunnies
@@fuzzy__dunlop Wrong movie
I loved how Coppola used this song in the beginning of Apocalypse Now
Your talking about Kashmir by LED Zepplin. Also watch the Doors movie from the 90's with Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison!
"Father, I want to kill you"
"Mother, I want to f**k you"
These are taken directly from the classic tale of Oedipus Rex.
It was a masterpiece and your reaction was great, it was like I was hearing it for the first time through your ears.
1.When The Music's over
2. Light My Fire
This two songs highly recommended.
First one is trippy, you will go through different moods.
Second one is lots of solos, beautiful, sexy and energetic.
*React to The Doors - Roadhouse Blues*
*Please !*
Yes, great choice! And LA woman 😉
Omg yes, my favourite one
Must!
Yes, and "Peace Frog" and "The Crystal Ship" -- great jams
This is a good'un, too.
That's the song that got The Doors kicked out of the Whiskey A Go Go club.
Damn right.
Why?
@@GirlWithAnOpinion in the middle of the song, Jim retells the story of Odipus (he killed his dad, so he could marry his mother). The gratuitous over-use of the word "fuck" left the crowd speechless (this is late '60s, btw). As soon as the set was done, the manager kicked the band out. The rest is rockstar history.
@@tolzer5217 The manager must've been thinking since then "Wtf did I do?!"
And signed to Elektra records. When one door closes...pun intended
Coppola included this song in the soundtrack of "Apocolypse Now"
Right but not as hard nosed as the unknown soldier
The Lizard King’s take on Oedipus... love it. I knew you didn’t know what you were getting yourself into. That was great brother.
Man you are just the best Preston 🙌🏻 absolutely loved this reaction. More of The Doors would be great.
It’s awesome watching a new generation go thru what we went thru before ,listening this good stuff.
Great channel
Doors, Led Zeppelin, old Sabbath, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, should be listened to stoned, on some good weed.
It has so much feeling, good for your soul.
BTW, " Not to touch the Earth", by the Doors, is one really cool tune!
Every time I hear this song, I'm reminded of the opening of Apocalypse Now, with the napalm being dropped in the trees.
centuryrox I love the smell of napalm in the morning, smells like .......victory
The Doors is a state of mind...amazing poetry and fantastic music
[Chorus]
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend
The end
[Verse 1]
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes again
[Verse 2]
Can you picture what will be?
So limitless and free
Desperately in need
Of some stranger's hand
In a desperate land
[Verse 3]
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

[Verse 4]
There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the King's Highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake, he's long, seven miles
Ride the snake
He's old and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here and we'll do the rest
The blue bus is calling us
The blue bus is calling us
Driver, where you taking us?
[Verse 5]
The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
"Father?" "Yes, son?" "I want to kill you"
"Mother? I want to..."

Come on baby, take a chance with us
Come on baby, take a chance with us

And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Of the blue bus, on the blue bus, on the blue bus
Come on yeah
Fuck, fuck

The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

The first band that I found meaning in,their honesty and chops have kept them relavent to this day.
"I'm not saying but I'm just saying, you know I'm saying?"
-Preston 2k19
I feel what you're stepping in.
"I am the Lizard King. I can do anything."
It amazes me this song was written at the same time The Beatles were writing songs like SGT Peppers and Yellow Submarine.
It really tells you how unique this song was at the time it came out.
1967...what an era for music
Oh man. Now you gotta listen to 'When The Music's Over', "Five To One:", "Texas Radio And Big Beat", "Riders On The Storm", "LA Woman", and "The Alabama Song".
Hey! You picked the best ones!
People are strange
Waiting for the sun
All great choices!!
Great post sir. That brought a tear to my eye, I first heard this when I was 17 and was equally blown away. Drove my parent insane playing it over and over. Still a fan 30 years later. RIP Lizard King.
CONGRATULATIONS! You have experienced one of the greatest songs of all time.
The Doors, "When the Music's Over" has that same vibe.
I agree, its a better song than The End. The Doors were in their prime with Strange Days!
Yep, "When the Music's Over" is the correct answer.
Just left this same comment, it’s my favorite song, i used to listen to it when i was 15, i’m 35 now.
Thanks for that, Preston! I'm a crusty old West Australian guy and that song hit me a similar way around 1980. It was really good fun watching you appreciate it. Cheers mate. Take care.
Normally I'm not crazy about these types of videos but this song is so unique that it was like listening to it for the first time with you! Even though i heard it 1000 times....Thank you!
The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I'll drop a line
Since you're going this route you have to do "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.
Oh, heck yeah!
Would Crimson and Clover be too much of a deep cut? Without...enhancements, I mean (~_^)
David Murphy Oh yeah! Talk about a journey.
@@cmuncy5998 I have 4 favorite tales above all others. The true accounts of Jesus, Joan of Arc, Romeo and Juliet, and Alice in Wonderland. Honorable mention to Harry Potter. So White Rabbit really resonates. Especially with Jorma, Jack, and Grace in the mix:D I actually went to their ranch in Athens (called Fur Peace Ranch) and met some of them.
Grace Slick is not only a great singer but she's hardcore.. Check out her Wikipedia.
Every time I listen to Him Morrison I tear up. His IQ was off the charts. He loved Classical Literature and he was a poet. He could never please his Father and was disowned by family. He never felt truly loved, always betrayed and abandoned. Tragic Genius..
Even, Keith Richards told him... "Bro.....ease back from the dope. You're freakin people out."
His problem was alcohol, far more than drugs...but alcohol is a drug.
Good old keith eh ... it is sorta morbid ..
@@deantait8326 yes alcohol was his demon...
Also, The Crystal Ship from the same album.
Watching you experience this for the first time is god-damned life-affirming! That was fantastic! Thanks for the smiles, my dude!
this reaction made me legit happy. nice work dude. you totally got it.....but who doesn't with The End? it's an instant classic and always will be.
You HAVE to Do...
THE DOORS ~ "Light My Fire LIVE Official Video"
It was on the famous Ed Sullivan Show.
Think of something else - ‘wire,’ ‘flyer.’ “
Well as you can see in the video at 1:50 The Doors sang the line just as they always did.
But we didn’t care.”
When the Doors got backstage, they learned they wouldn’t be back - ever. “The producer said, ‘You promised,’ and we said, ‘We were so nervous, we’re just boys, we’ve done it a thousand times, it just came out.’ He looked at Morrison and said, ‘Mr. Sullivan liked you boys. He wanted you on six more times."
John Densmore added that Ed fumed, “’You will never do this show again,’ after we’d directly disobeyed his censorship requirements. Jim turned to him and remarked, ‘Hey, that’s okay - we just did the Ed Sullivan show.’”
And the rest is Rock N Roll history.
Johnny Wilkman good info mate thanks
Dude, you are so lucky to experience the magic of The Doors for this first time. I love your enthusiasm! I heard this song for the first time when I was 9 years old, and you know for damn sure my mind was Blown, and I ain't been the same since!! Welcome to the club, Brother!!
Jim Morrison (singer) is a one of a kind. Nobody can duplicate what he did. He was in another world and his voice took us to his level.
Please react to more!! "L.A. Woman" "Roadhouse Blues" "Riders on the Storm" "Alabama Song (whiskey bar)"
You actually have..They're the older version ofTool!
Keep listening to the Doors...theyll take u on a ride u never been on before!
My aunt spent years in the 60s in California she got a 45 min pirated copy of this song. When I was a teenager 25ish yrs ago i got it, i spent hours tripping it. My god you took me back. I wish I could remember some of those nights, lol.
bro, riderz on the storm, unknown soldier, sooooo much for you to discover, but in your own time.keep expanding and growing.much love
This is a lot like a Sufi song, with the constant drone and spiralling reels. It's a hypnotic, ecstatic form of worship, meant to inspire higher states of spiritual awareness.

When The Music's Over - The Doors Live in Hollywood is a masterpiece you def should check out
I was always curious what you would think of Jim Morrison. But I'm telling you bro. You got to check out some Tom Waits. I think you'd find him interesting.

Absolutely!! Good call Don Casey
Tom waits is amazing and original as fuck. Definitely needs a reaction
I used to live 2 streets away from him. Hes exactly as you think he is irl. Quite a trippy and unique man.
Pretty much the best reaction video on TH-cam ever. The biggest advert ever for people to open their ears and listen to something they would never listen to before. Awesome reaction, thank you
