• Dex Order Challenge
In this challenge run, I will be finding out if it is possible to obtain every single Pokémon in existence, while getting them all in National Dex order. Once I've obtained one, I am then allowed to move on and catch the next one after it. However, I am allowed to freely obtain any Pokémon as many times as I like after I've gotten it once.
This is one entire continuous series, meaning that for this leg of the challenge, since I've already obtained every Gen I, II and III Pokémon, I am free to catch any of them that appear.
It is not a living dex, so once a Pokémon has been picked up I am free to do whatever I like with it.
I can also use any games in the series, and can freely hop between them at will, along with being allowed to trade back and forth with them. I can go back to games I've used in previous parts of the challenge to pick up Pokémon if they are easier to obtain there, and if I want I can use any side games, peripherals, glitches or even events if need be, though I will primarily stick to main series games whenever possible. If obtained in a side game, it will only count as obtained once it actually arrives in a core series game, or Pokémon HOME.
I said this in the last video but this one took a lot longer to work through and edit, and they'll only get more difficult so you will definitely be waiting a while longer for part 5, so stay tuned for that.
Incredibly, I hit 2,000 subs since posting part 3, at which point I had just over 100, so I've taken extra care to make this one as good as I can make it (and will do so with all future videos.)

Glitching reality and running for miles through the void seems a much more appropriate way to encounter God, imho

My guess is that he gets one in GO and transfers it to Home. Him _specifically_ counting a mon as caught once it is transfered "a main line game _or Pokemon Home"_ in the intro kind of hints at that.
In which case, apparently doing so takes a couple of months of daily grinds...
I'm more worried about Zacian/Zamazenta. The only way to get them currently is to catch them in the postgame of Sword/Shield, but Eternatus, which comes after them in the national dex, is a required capture during the main story. There's no way around catching Eternatus: the game gives you a pokeball for free if you don't have any, withholds box 32 until catching Eternatus in case you try to fill up your box and party to have no space for it, and straight up softlocks if you hack the game to get and fill every box early in advance. Until Zacian/Zamazenta become available another way, I don't think gen 8 is possible. Common Sword/Shield L tbh

@@Bogeynatorcouldn’t you just fill those boxes with pokemon home? Iirc pokemon home will give you access to all boxes, even if you haven’t gotten enough pokemon to unlock them in game

As a side note, TH-cam keeps capping my videos at 360p for a while after uploading so I kept it unlisted until processing was finished so people didn't have to suffer through SD quality. Not sure why this keeps happening, but if any seasoned TH-cam veterans know why this is and how I can solve it for next time it would be highly appreciated!
It releases the video as soon as the SD quality is finished processing. If you want to upload it and forget about it while still only showing it in HD, you can schedule the release. Then it will come out at a specific time, and if you set it far enough in the future, in the full definition you exported it as.
@@mathisirondil Thanks, great idea :) I'll set a schedule for like 2 hours before release to give my awful internet time to upload in HD for part 5.
That's a standard TH-cam thing. I guess the idea is to make it available to watch as early as possible, even if it's at lower quality while the higher quality versions are still processing.
it has finished post processing in about an hour, the video is available in HD(1080) now :)

Part 5 is the one I’ve been most excited for because Victini wants to be so special
Escavalier also proves to be a very unique problem, seeing as you have to evolve karrablast by trading it for a shelmet, which comes after it in the pokedex. Escavalier isn't catchable in BW, B2W2, or even ORAS, so I'm guessing a spin-off will have to be used, or it'll be the run killer.
This man does not value his sanity in the slightest and I'm enjoying his ability to innovate his way to deeper levels of effort required to whittle down his sanity even more

When you pointed out that Phione could be obtained before Manaphy in Legends Arceus, I was like, "Oh, clever". Then when you started reading the book and it hit me that you need Overqwil to get to Phione in PLA, my heart sank. Glad there was still a workaround!

Oh boy, Victini. And even after that, Gen V has the most Pokemon. We ALL understand you have a job/life and can't dedicate all your time to this challenge. So yeah, take whatever time you need and don't burn out! We'll be patiently waiting for part 5. Keep it up, you're doing great!
These parts just keep getting wilder. I'm sure gen 5 will be much easier. I can't think of anything that would stand in your way with those.

Genuinely my greatest achievement in life is that I have caught a tree munchlax in pearl. It took several days and I named it “FINALLY”
I live that time specific pokemon aren't just dealt with by setting device times to instantly progress. It's a little thing, but it brings me back to sneaking my 3DS below my pillow to stay up and catch a specific pokemon.
You deserve at least a million subscribers if you manage to catch all 1025 in order!

People gave already identified a few roadblocks in the coming gens. Victini, Escavalier, Zacian & Zamazenta for example. However, as time has progressed there are workarounds for those; Pokemon Go and events come to mind. However, I think tragically the actual roadblocks will come right before the finish line. Aside from the fact that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are timed exclusives, I don't think there is a way to catch Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti before catching Ogerpon. Just like Eternatus, Ogerpon is absolutely forced woth no workarounds, but unlike Zacian and Zamazenta there haven't been events distributing the Lousy Three that can be exploited to get them like Zacian and Zamazenta. The only way around that would be to wait until either those events happen (which is entirely plausible) or until another game is released wherein those three are catchable, probably in gen 10, or if we're lucky, Pokemon Go.
Yep, you're absolutely right - when I planned this all out, there were 1008 pokemon so now I am just looking for a miracle to occur, I'll probably be bringing it up in a little mini segment in one of the videos
@@KillerKiwi1642 Hey you never know: in gen 8, we got shiny Galarian Birds as mystery gifts if you signed up for the right online tournaments, maybe they have some distributions for those three later this year by the time you get to them. At the very least, stranding at the end of the dex may be unsatisfying, it's also solved by waiting. You can just pickup in the future when there is a way to get the ones that aren't available as of now.
Really enjoying the series thus far, guess we'll have to wait and see what the solution will be once we get there! 1008 would be a very respectable ending point though (even 1013 if there is another Walking Wake/Iron Leaves event at the right time).

Great job! Can't wait for gen 5 coming. I would assume you'll be getting Victini from Pokemon Go, as it's the only way to get it into your pokemon home without getting any other gen 5 pokemon in there first, though if you have to start from scratch in Go, it might take a really long time to get there. Probably 4-6 months of daily playing, and avoiding catching any other gen 5 pokemon. It is available for everyone thankfully, starting from level 15, you simply have to go through the research quests for Mew, Celebi, and Jirachi. Victini's questline however, does have reward encounters, that you may not be able to avoid, namely Elgyem and Darumaka. Though, alternatively, you could use your presumably existing Go profile, despite any pokemon that you have already caught there, and simply transfer your existing Victini to Home. Then you'd be free to start any gen 5 game with Snivy, and then eventually catch your slightly more legit victini later on with the event item.
Next video is gonna be tough. Victini is a real problem for this.
About the only way I can see it work is by using Pokémon Go and getting one of the occasional event tickets that give you a chance to get it there.
My thoughts exactly. Even that requires unlocking Trade first.
There's actually a method from the original BW games, there was an event item that allowed you to go where Victini spawned and catch it. Maybe he might use DNS changing things I don't know

there was an event distribution for it in ORAS! so he can activate that then move on to play BW as normal

These videos have been really inspiring. I’ve been playing Pokémon since gen 1, and have gotten close to completing the dex a couple of times, but never crossed that finish line. To know it’s doable with even the extreme rules gives me hope 😂

This just makes me think of a harder version that I would not wish for anyone to do… but would 100% watch. This challenge but you can’t recapture Pokémon you got, like you can capture a Pokémon as many times as you want, you just can’t capture it after you catch the next one… like Pokemon 10 10 10 11 11 11 12 13 14 14 is valid but 10 10 10 11 11 12 10 is not, making it true order, I bet that would be hard/imposible but I feel that would be cool.
That seems more like an "Is this even theoretically possible" video, but I would absolutely watch it if I saw it.
That sounds rough but thinking practically, as long as you can catch fodder for trades to get HM users from older gens, the only added challenge is grinding one or two early pokemon to sweep the whole game, which has been done before lol

I’m so excited for the victini, but as he’s soaring through I’m realizing that gen 9 might not be possible since you start the game with a legendary.
But you can't use it in battle yet, so the question is, does it give you the Dex entry at the beginning of the game?
@@BioniclesaurKing4t2It doesn't, however I'm not sure whether it gives you it when completing the Area Zero post-game, which I think is required for a lot of the Area Zero paradox spawns (unless they are unlocked before beating the AI professor, which would be the saving grace).

Although I haven't tried it out myself, I feel like victini may be doable in order without hacking by possibly glitching the game to not get your starter/confuse the game to think you already have it. I know the bike tweaking glitch only works in gen 4, but maybe there's some other way to bypass the gen 5 starters temporarily in order to get victini first
