That nutty up B is called Tokyo Drift. It's completely bufferable and incredibly consistent. Do a short hop up air, then hold side B during jumpsquat. The short hop macro guarantees jumpsquat + a short hop first. After jumpsquat the special move overrides the normal aerial, but somehow the directions are buffered in the original order (up air becomes up B even though you're holding to the side). This gives you a frame perfect up special + full sideways momentum (from holding side B) for maximum drift. Slingshot was used to hurtbox shift and steal extra distance from the max ground speed jumpsquat frames.
I’m not competitive, and I can’t prob won’t have the time to practice this into my gameplay anytime soon. But as a spectator, everything from the trailer to the pros reactions and production quality was amazing to see. I can’t remember the last time I was excited to check back to find what tech people discovered. You revitalized smash for me

Afaik is basically "burn your double jump and keep mashing the jump button to get free footstools, if the opponent attacks, they're stuck in the attack's lag and your jump is huge, so you can avoid the attack and punish it" But don't quote me on that, I really don't remember the phantom footstools really well
@@nicocchi So, Phantom Footstools didn't actually footstool the opponent (that's the phantom part) So the way it works is that you jump on the hurt box of the character doing an attack (Wolf up-air for example; you jump on his arm, not the purple claw swipe). Your lower body gains i-frames making the attack not hit you and you jump waaaaay above the opponent. The problem is that it's rather tight and if you miss it you get your double-jump taken because the attack you jumped on clipped you. Very high risk for relatively low reward.

This tech is so cool it lets me get into position to edge guard with yoshi if I send them off and I’m in like center stage, makes me able to get space and throw eggs from a distance and Even hold shot down b to break shields. And especially because of his air speed I’m like zooming at them so fast

I can't test it myself since I don't have a setup, and I'm worried that I won't be able to play it at a basic level if the slingshot is too necessary for competition and it's not possible to use it without using a jump button.
@@aruretheincomprehensible20 Tap jump's only gonna make slingshot techs unnecessarily harder for you in general. That's basically just cutting off your arm in a fist fight once these techs become the norm (which won't be very long I imagine).

For the falcon dive tech, its just the "tokyo drift falcon dive tech" with a slingshot twist. You can actually make the normal one easier by buffering it a specific way so this not as frame tight as a lot of people assume (from 1 frame input to 3 frame).

I feel like if Lucas' are daring enough, they can do slingshot pk fire of the ledge to go for an offstage edgegaued since Lucas doesn't have the best horizontal momentum, but with this he goes so far so fast
It's too laggy to really accomplish anything, and Lucas is already top-5 at edgeguarding. For reference, he has better airspeed than Pikachu, and Pika never seems to have trouble reaching people offstage.
Surprised you didn't react to the marth slingshot shieldbreaker clip. It's a neat mixup bc you can use spaced slingshot aerials to condition them to hold shield, then throw the SB out and they just die.
I understand the fear. Bidou was something to make near-impossible things consistent and it was simply not worth learning because it was a complete reset on most of what you knew. This is something that's relatively easy to pick up and integrate as much as you feel like, much like Wavedashing was.

You can also do what I call a split shot where you don’t jump and you do the down back out of dash and this allows you to confirm any tilt or smash without accidentally getting the dash and you don’t have to crouch so it’s faster to come out
I main Dedede and I’m fairly certain that he can’t b-reverse gordo toss. I believe that it probably is related to the fact that inputting angles during gordo toss changes the trajectory of the gordo, and they didn’t want you to accidentally turn around when trying to input a back-angled gordo. He also definitely is a special case in that you can affect air speed during the move, so you can drift while setting gordo angles. This is what allows the very useful ledge option of let go-> immediately jump->immediately side-b while holding towards stage. This gives you just enough momentum to land on stage as the gordo comes out (and it’s hard to challenge since dedede will instantly re-reflect the gordo if it gets hit right after he hits it)

I have no idea of the technicalities or terms, or what "instant RAR" is and why everyone keeps comparing this to that. But I love watching this content and watching the meta grow and evolve. I follow so many Smash pros without understanding what they're even doing since if it looks cool onscreen, it's a good thing. :D And Gimr does a great job dissecting down what's going on in these breakdowns that even a casual like me can sorta understand. Usually lasted about a minute. "Ultimate Pacifist route" it was dubbed. I knew they were mocking me, but it was worth it.
As soon as the video was released and I saw it I just couldn't wait to see what people did with it. Void is about to level up like nothing before. Can't wait to see Fatallity's combo game get even crazier.

personal preference unless you're going for down b. I think up left and down right are easiest on the thumb.
