Oh my God I came here for her. She is the one that I saved all a year for The moment she was shown.
I thought I was biased because she was my first American girl doll as a kid! But no, she really is that amazing 😭💞
I grew up in the early 2000s so Lindsey looking unhinged is so relatable 😅🤣
I was the same age as Lindsey when she released and I’m from the Chicago area. Lindsey looks unhinged in the best, most relatable way. I didn’t appreciate her enough when I received her but as a full grown adult, I’m so glad she was the last AG I received before aging out. Tier lists are very personal, and Lindsey is my absolute favorite girl of the year.
Aw, I love Saige, she's one of my favorite GOTYs, I think her unique turquoise eyes are stunning, I absolutely love her long auburn, curly hair, I was an artsy girl when I was younger so we have that shared interest, and I've always wanted to visit the Southwest so I love her aesthetic, I think her sweater outfit is adorable (even if it's a bit "old lady-ish" as you said, but it's something I'd definitely wear so I can't complain lol). I'd love to own her one day. She is a bit similar to Nicki, but I think she's like "Nicki plus" in the same way you said Joss can be "Kailey plus" or Corinne is "Mia plus". Similar ideas, but better done.
I also love Joss because she's a surfer girl, I love her hair, her unique face mold and her disability representation. I love Corinne and her winter collection, same with Mia for the same reason. I love Luciana for her STEM theme and collection, I think her purple streak is quite cute. And of course Kanani, she's just so stunning.
I’m going to be completely honest, this is really the first time I’ve ever seen Kira or Corinne since I haven’t been very active (actucally not at all) with collecting AG so I haven’t kept up with the GOTYS since Joss, but seeing Corinne honestly makes me want to get back into collecting! I don’t play with my American girlies anymore, but honestly kinda want Corinne!
Corinne got me back into collecting! An Asian American doll with colored streaks was everything I wanted as a kid so i fell in love with her. She is absolutely adorable
I’ll never forget when I went to my flea market one day and found kanani for only 40$😭 I love her sm especially bc she was my childhood doll

I personally love Saige, mostly because I’m a sucker for redheaded/darker red-haired AG dolls, and yeah, some of her collection is not the best, but, she has my favorite appearance out of the GOTY’s.
Can we talk about how someone wrote on the American Girl Wiki that Joss's book is historically inaccurate, since they didn't predict that California would go into quarantine at the time her book takes place
My GOD Lea Clark is STUNNING !! I just received her NIB and I’m shocked! …. Shocked! 😳 The most beautiful doll I’ve ever seen, her skin tone, eyes, hair, everything is perfect! She is the one I personally would want to play with, along with Nanea, my another favorite.
Marisol was my first GOTY and is still one of my favorites! I loved her story and thought she was one of the most beautiful dolls I’d ever seen 😍

I love watching tier rankings, and would happily watch more. I always feel bad for the dolls who were done dirty by AG; it's not their fault that they aren't as good as some of the others in terms of collection or concept! Really enjoyed your ranking, thank you for sharing.

Corinne is one of my FAVORITE dolls in my collection and I find myself coming back to her again and again she is 1,000% worth it!

About 3 years ago I stopped playing with my American girls because I wanted to be “mature” obviously didn’t last and I came back to Corinne and she literally has my personality and so now I’m frantically trying to buy her collection because it honestly SLAYS
I don’t know why, but there is something about Lindsey that speaks out to me. She has a bland accessory collection and I don’t really relate to her story, but I find her to look very homey and comforting. I like her wavy brown hair and her outfit reminds me of how my mom used to dress me to go to school when I was little in the early 2000’s.
The other GotY dolls remind me of the girls who bullied me in middle school, but Lindsey is the type of girl I would get pizza with and watch a movie with on a rainy Friday night.
(Also, she was the first doll of Jewish descent American Girl made! A few years before Rebecca in the historical line! Nice representation so early in GotY’s history!)

I am a biased Grace fan and I will say she slayed so hard I love her omg she haunts my dreams and was my dream doll ong. Other then Leah. Leah was awesome too but GRACE HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD OMG GRACE IS MY BABY
I have such a love hate relationship with Kira. I love her blond hair and green eyes. I love the fact she goes to Australia. But she feels like Julie 2.0 to me. I do have the doll. I recently downsized my collection majorly. Getting rid of the dolls I didn't feel connected too and Sonali was one. I don't regret getting rid of her. I think I only got her because yes she is stunningly beautiful and her story is amazing. I just never connected too her. Gabriella--- Could have been so much better! I kinda feel like American Girl is simply recycling their Girl of the Year stories. There is so much more they could do that they haven't done yet. I always love seeing what people think about the Girl of the Year dolls and others.

i love marisol, she was my first ag doll and i kept her in super good condition, its funny bc i remember wearing the exact same type of wrap cardigans in the 00s to dance class

I have the new DK American Girl collection book and Tenny and Logan are in the Girl of The Year category! They needed to do more for Gabriela. And it’s honestly so sad they do not have another African American GOTY.

Is there anywhere we can see the Joss prototype? I love seeing the doll prototypes especially for molds but I can’t find them anywhere most of the time

I think that some of the dolls of the year just look like play dolls or dolls moms can make clothing for and they are a bit different looking from the Just lile You or Me, or what ever and that might be the appeal. Looking back on my childhood I feel like my favorite dolls were always kit and Samantha. However my little undecided on the girl of the Year dolls I feel like there's a lot that I could give my favorite too I can definitely think of about three kanani because she was my first girl of the year. McKenna because I've read her book probably a hundred times and Grace because who doesn't love a baker.

Love How You Ranked the Dolls! However, I personally would have put Luciana little higher.
I’ve never owned a Girl of the Year doll, and many of these characters I have never heard of. Goodness gracious, some of the Meet outfits are HiDeOus. I agree with almost all of your rankings.
I always thought Joss's facemold looked like a slightly rounder version of Marie-Grace's facemold which I abolutely adore (It's why I got Marie-Grace in the first place). Younger me would have definitely made the two dolls sisters if I had them both ☺️

Honestly I would have put Joss to in the top category I have her and while I think her hair is I little harder to play with than for example my Maryellen i think her story is so important and very relatable (as a deaf person my self) also you talked about other characters differences and diversity but you didn’t talk much about Joss’s deafness or that she is the first ag doll ever to have a “disability “ plus she is just beautiful but that is just my opinion most of the other ranking I agree

First of all I’m not a collector of doll of the year. I love Corrine but I can’t see passed the ski aspect which I hate love her books though. I have Luciana (only GOTY I have) I think she should have been sold in her flight suit. She is more a souvenir because the year she came out was the first time I went to Space Camp she was sold there. Her books are little I can’t think of the word I do think it would have been better if she had suffered more consequences for her actions then what happened this fairytale.ending didn’t sit right with me. What happened rarely if ever happens.
