I just rode the continental divide trail from Banff ab to Mexico border and then to West coast ending back in Alberta on a Africa twin with K60's on it. Tires performed great on all surfaces mud, sand, gravel, rock and pavement. 17000km and still lots of tread very happy them them and never had a puncture
Mitas E07 and K60 scout are great 50/50 tires! I have had both, even if I don't actually ride 50% in the dirt. It's the perfect compromise in wear and grip in on and off road conditions.
i have got feedback that the K60 is very bad on wet tarmac. does Mitas E07 have the same issue? I have yet to decide between the both as I am looking for 50/50 tires
@@hiron666 I did not like how my Mitas E07 ryres felt on wet tarmac, it was prone to sliding without warning (I don't mind sliding but I want a tyre to give feedback before sliding).

My bike (r1200gs) came with Mitas E07's, hard wearing, smooth on the road but not grippy on or off the road. Then I tried TKC80's. I loved the front one, it felt very grippy on and especially off the road but the rear one had too much grip off road (hard to do donuts) and slips like crazy under light acceleration on the wet road.
Now I've got Heidenou's K60 Scouts. Great tyre. Surprisingly grippy off road, even in mud. Hard wearing on the road too. The rear takes alot more to spin on the wet road vs the TKC80. But there is some noise and vibration on the road around 45 Km/h (25mph).
Motoz GPS. Like the K60 Scout but much better road manners and excellent confidence in the wet. Also the rear is reversable for 50/50 or 100% offroad... very cool... Also another choice now for the 60/40 is TKC70 Rocks. so many tyres now...
Shinko 244s. Love them on the road and trail. Cheap and easy to change out for new ones.
The chevron pattern. Hands down best all round. A big dual or adventure get something with center patch. Of course off road with very little road get something with nobbies and lugs.
I have a 2016 ktm 1190 adventure r , it came with continental TKC80 tyres. I like them but it's a relatively soft compound. My torquey beast chews the rear tyre out in no time when going off-road. Will look at a harder compound next.

Even with my 90/10 riding preference, I think I'd rather have the Anakee 2s than the 3s.
Rode Annakee 3's two sets gave me 47,ooo kms of travel.
Mixed fun.
And for all the 500 and less cc bikes that actually go off road the perlite Mt 43 run tables well under 10 psi is by far the best all around tire.

We had Only 7000 km with the OEM Dunlop tires on my New 2019 Honda AfricaTwin
and both front and back are almost worn out 🤢
I am not impressed by the grip of the OEM tires and are now looking for new 50/50 ones
the AT are actually rather heavy
so we have come down to the Mitas E07+ or the new Dunlop Trailmax Mision

For those of us running tubes in adv tires, it would be very helpful to comment on how stiff the sidewalls are as in which ones will be a major PIA to service roadside w/ small hand tools 100 mi from the nearest shop. None of these tire reviews seem to factor that in, which is something important for the use experience.

Been riding Anakee 3 for a few years due to the excellent wet weather performance, but like most Michelin tires, they are annoyingly noisy, even compared to Metzeler’s Karoo street tires. Currently looking for the best 90/10 alternative.
What do people in Alaska use for commuting to work? It's quite a diverse challenge to tires. Sand wet and dry, some mud, snow and ice on a paved road. I mean, you couldn't use dedicated ice tires or off road tires. What would they use?

I find that on a lighter dual sport such as an XR250l a 50/50 tire gives very little to no traction off road.
There just isn't enough weight to get them to hook up.
You have a good point Wayne. My favorite for a DOT-legal knobby on a true dualsport bike (not a big ADV bike) is a Michelin MT21, which we don't sell.

I'm trying to get new tires for my xr250L I ride on pavement a lot but want a 50/50 tire, any recommendations?
@@ethancropp600 I haven't ran anything like a 50/50 on mine in a long long time...like since the 1990's, so I don't even remember which ones I had.
Since then I only use the Dunlop D606 or the Pirelli MT21. I ride pavement a lot but I want maximum traction when I do hit the dirt because I push the bike as far as it can go when off road. An xr250L can do pretty good with a rider as light as I am ( 125lbs).
E07 all the way. I get about 8400 miles on them before they are bald. Even bald and lowered to10psi they will still climb on my super tenere

On my Tiger 800xc the Mitas E07 is a great 50/50 and Shinko 705 is great a 70/30. I prefer the E07 to the TKC 80's I've ridden, but those were on a different bike.
K60s, M21s or the GP110s are almost non-existent for my simple Versys.. no matter where you look. These has always been my go to favs and they seem to be limited if and when they can be found.
Why Shinko is not mentioned here? The 804/805 are great tires, and affordable

Is the mitase 07 for my bmw 1200 gs adventure bike a good tyre.I ride mostly on road but if i do go offroad gravel road not extreme will this tyre be an great option .
Don't forget the Pirelli MT- 90 Scorpions. 70/30 tire
Thankfully there are now a lot of choices for ADV/dualsport tires and tire technology is always improving.
I'm looking for a 50/50 tire, between the Shinko E805 and the E07, what would you chose?
I have a tiger xca 800, i do a lot of road but love to make some sand trails in the weekend and i'm planing to go make a trip to Morocco for 10 days.

Between those two and because you ride sand I would pick the Shinko even though Twisted Throttle doesn't carry Shinko. How's that for honesty? The new Mefo Super Explorer would be a good choice for sand too and has bigger gaps between the knobs than the Shinko which give better paddle tire effect in sand.
TwistedThrottle.com With the Mefo Super Explorer i still get good road performance? My problem is that during the week i road mostly in roads and highways, so tire longevity is a problem.

Good afternoon, I have a Big Trail, V-Strom and I would like to choose a tire, at least, 30% off and 70% on, which one do you suggest form me? Thank you.
Mitas E-07 Dakar or Heidenau K60 Scout. I've run the K60 Scout on my R1200GS and the front will hum a bit. The rear is great on the road and they will definitely handle your 30% dirt. However, even closer to your 30/70 would be the Continental TKC70.
The anikee 3 didn't do anything they say it will ..the Metzler karoo 3 does way more than they say they will ..buuuut after 2500 miles the karoo 3 was ready for the drag strip as a replacement drag slick
Is there a reason the TKC70 is not taken into account? I know the front tire can be sketchy, but in general it's a really good tire.

Great overview. Do you have any feedback on the expected mileage from the Mitas E07? I am heading to Alaska and try to figure out how many sets I will need.
I tested the E-09s which are knobbier and the front was toast at 4000 miles. The rear still has plenty of life left in it and I'll be pairing an E-07 front with it. The E-09 front has too small of knobs and too much space between them for any street use. I would guess you can get 5000+ out of the E-07s possibly more because the rubber compound is the same but there is more rubber on the road.
I am going to put on fresh rubber in Boise and then 5800 miles later in Spokane. Sounds like the E07s should be fine. Thanks for the feedback.

Great video on the difference between tires... but you didn't mention anything about TIRE PRESSURE?
Shouldn't you reduce tire pressure from 36(front)/43(rear) down to
26(front)/33(rear) psi if you are riding off road? TIA
Great question Kevin Ho. I'd say "it depends." Let's take me for example, I'm riding in southern New England (Twisted Throttle is in Rhode Island) on an R1200GS. We don't have huge areas for off-road riding and the dirt roads are just sections so we are constantly connecting the trails and dirt roads with paved roads. It just doesn't make sense to constantly stop to air-up and air-down. Plus I don't think I really get enough of a benefit from airing down to bother, maybe it's my smooth riding style?
Now if you're out West with hundreds of miles of dirt roads and 10,000+ acre riding areas then maybe airing down makes more sense. Or in Alaska and Canada. Also if there is a lot of mud or sand on your route you will benefit from airing down.
Smaller dualsports, especially when riding technical terrain, benefit from airing down as well. Just remember if you ride at high speed on aired down tires the side walls flex more and generate heat which kills the life of the tire. There just isn't a blanket answer for this one but experimenting what works best for you is part of the fun.

Hi there i have a KTM 1090R i planing to make a road trip from Mexico City to Alaska, what tyre do you recommend? I'm planning to use a lot highways and dirt road.
It will truly depend on the type and amount of off-roading you wish to do along the way. TKC 80's are a great street legal knobby for the larger/heavier bikes.

I have a 2014 Vstrom 1000. I’m thinking of switching to the Heidenau K76 tires because I heard from a friend that they have good wet/dry traction but also have a long life. However it is a Bias Ply tire and my bike cane with Radials. Can you see any problem with running them on my bike? I ride 30,000km per season (6months) mostly on road.
The radial tires will be easier to install/repair and will dissipate heat better. Ultimately it is your decision.
What about light 450 - 500 CC enduro bikes that need to go a little on the road? My 2019 KTM 500 EXC eats knobbies like crazy when you ride on tarmac traveling to the dry loose and hard gravel roads you are really going to ride on.

Marisa here from the Twisted Team - I have a KTM 400 EXC and 950 ADV which I use the TKC80's on. They hold up really well for those connecting stretches of tarmac, and offer great traction off road. Even on the heavier 950, the TKC80 has great traction through paved corners - no flex in the edge of the tire. If you haven't tried them out yet, I recommend it!

Ok so for a bike like a ktm 690, a klr 650 or even a dr650, what would be the perfect tire for a trip from Canada to the south tip of Argentina?? I'd say a good 50/50, even though by far most of it is decent pavement, but they say you gotta choose for the worse part of it. So which one would you or anybody here recommend? Thanks
Hey, 8. A 50/50 tire is a great choice for that kind of trip. It'll be rugged for the times you need that--and not just for dirt but for questionable pavement--and will give you the right amount of capability you'll need. Plus they wear really well. In the 140/80-18 to fit the KTM, you have a choice of the following: Mefo Super Explorer, Mitas E-07, and Heidenau K60 Scout. All good choices, with the Mitas being slightly more street biased, the Mefo slightly more aimed at dirt, and the Heidenau in between. For the KLR (a 130/80-17 rear), you have the same choices but also the Metzeler Karoo 3, which is a bit more street-biased than all of those 50/50 tires mentioned above. And it's pretty much the same for the DR650 in the stock 120/90-17 rear size, though we've also run a 130/80 on that bike without problems.

Michelin Anakee's - quiet?
I have heard just the opposite. Good,long lasting but noisy, especially at speeds over 60mph
I have never heard noise from two sets of Annakee 3's .
It's like a myth.
They look like a Sport bike tire where is this noise supposed to come from anyway .
I think the noise is in the head of the competion trying to put people off them.
Try a set if your like me on the road a lot and like the twisties .
I have Yamaha Mt 09 2017 and wanna get those fancy dual tyres but most of my driving is roads. But just fancying having that aggressive look to bike with Enduro look tyres. Plus I live in U.K. which is famous for its weather unpredictability. So need suggestions for best ones out there in terms of fitment, price point , weather and driving conditions. Thanx in advance
An MT09 with Dual sport tyres would look awful dude, it's not a bike built for that style of riding.

Any thoughts on the TKC70? I've noticed they aren't mentioned in a lot of video's regarding ADV/dualsport tire choices.
Not as aggressive as the Heidenau or other 50/50 tires but about like the old Avon Distanzia. Really nice on the road.
Got A GSA and the TCK70 is my choice. live in Australia. We do average 500 km days and 20% dirt. they are my tire of choice... FYI ive tried almost all the tires in the video.

My favorite tires for the Vara 1000 are the Michelin Anakee 3. Long lasting on the tarmac and very good grip in the wet.

I didn't like my Mitas E07, I swapped to Heidenau. They took several hundred kilometers to wear in but after they did they were more confidence inspiring than the Mitas E07 which I never felt confident with.

what width is better for the klr 650 the (130 stock or the 140 aftermarket?) tire is the k60 scout

It depends a lot on the specific tire and the terrain. For road, you want more footprint. For off-road, you want the right amount of footprint; a bigger tire isn't necessarily better. Plus, when you go up a size it can influence the handling of the bike. There are KLR owners running the 140mm-wide K60 and seem happy with it, but it's not a sure thing it provides more traction or even wears longer than the 130.

A paddle tire. But seriously if you watched this video we assume you have a large dualsport or adventure bike and wheel sizes will limit what will fit. For sand you want something like a paddle tire so anything with larger spaces between the knobs and the knobs arranged in rows across the tire will be your best choice. Some suggestions are the Mitas E-09, Michelin Anakee Wild and the new MEFO Super Explorer.
My brother and I took our R1200GS's up the beach last weekend. I had 50/50's he had more like 90/10's. Even with his nearly road tyres he was fine just by letting the air waaay down. That is key for sand. I'm sure the knobbies help some but just let more air out for better performance in that deep soft sand. Like even down to 4 psi will make a tremendous difference.

I'm confused... Your title says Dual Sport, but you talk soley about adventure bikes. Don't think I can buy from a company who doesn't know the difference. You would get more likes and more views if your title and content align.
