Makita Kettle Review - It's Battery Powered!

  • REVIEWED: The Makita DKT360Z is a battery-powered kettle. Should you buy one or choose the Builders Tea Box instead? In our Makita Kettle review, we take a look at the key features and the all-important question how long does it take to boil water using batteries?
The Makita cordless kettle uses two Makita LXT batteries to power what is a 720-watt kettle. As with more and more power tools, the kettle is supplied as "body only", which means it doesn't come with a charger or batteries. This is fine if you are a Makita user but an expensive option if you are new to Makita power tools.
Up against the Makita Kettle is the Builders Tea Box, a full kit with a 600-watt kettle, cups, teaspoon, storage cup and even a towel.

@@waynio67 It's every company not just DeWalt and Makita. I use a lot of battery powered gardening tools for work (more reliable, less maintenance, plus petrol/oil prices are ridiculous atm) I use Stihl and Duramaxx tools mainly, the highish capacity (4ah+) batteries are often more expensive than the tool. But looking at the price of decent 18650's it's hardly worth rebuilding the batteries yourself. I'll only go that route if the batteries for my existing tools are no longer available.
I only use my petrol powered tools when i'll be doing either really intense work or super long periods with the same tool without access to mains electric to recharge.

Insulation is also important, not just wattage on relatively low power kettles, the Makita looked significantly better insulated so less heat lost. This is why the ban on high power appliances wasn't well thought through particularly when applied to kettles, a 3kW kettle will boil faster so lose less heat, taken to extremes, 10W into an uninsulated kettle=it will likely never boil but 10W into a very well insulated kettle =It will eventually boil.

Pure water is 100c, but usually there's other things (such as chlorine in tap water etc) which alter the boiling temp. Bit like putting salt on ice, which lowers the freezing temperature.

In the long run, versus buying coffee in the drive thru, you might do better with this. Petrol portable generator or a portable propane heater would be unsafe in a vehicle. Boiling water by itself allows a french press the pour over option. ☕

I'm from the US and I am sick of seeing all these battery powered coffee makers, finally a tea kettle finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not all of us like coffee! And having just plain hot water is useful for many more things. Plus it shouldn't make your tea taste like coffee ( this is a problem around here when people use the coffee craft for tea water, thinking it's fine when it's permanently flavored and usually not washed out well ).

Benefit of using bottled water is there is no limescale build up in the kettle.
My Nespresso machine has been used almost nonstop for the past 2 years and never needed to remove limescale. Think it has seen well over 2500 cups...... 6 cups a day average, 5 days a week for 42 week a year and that for 2 years.

So dose your tea break start when you put the kettle on or when it’s boiled and the tea is made ?.
So a fithteen minute tea break, that thing takes 3.24 minets to boil one cup of water so you’re tea beak drops to 12 minutes, boil enough water for Gordon,Gaz and Joe Robinson, it takes 7.26 minutes and your tea brake is now down to about 7.74 minutes. At that rate there’s no point having a tea break.
I think you will need to employ a tea lady and she can shout tea’s up when she has made you all a cuper .👍😂
