@@klaaskingma7435 Do you mean cooking it in a pan first? If so, then there would be no need for the air fryer, you could just cook the whole thing in a skillet. 🤷♀
I do the salmon, but the game changer is after you put a little mayo on the salmon add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cajun seasoning. THEN mix panko and parmesan and add that on top for parmesan crusted salmon! It is SOOO good!!! I usually cook for about 7-10 min depending on how thick my salmon is
Adding the panko and parm is what I was thinking would make this recipe amazing with a slightly crispy yet creamy layer...haven't tried it myself, but I did have that thought while watching hers 😊
The thing about crispy gnocchi (which you can absolutely do in a frying pan or roast in the oven) is that you should only do as much as you need for one serving each, because they become like rubbery pebbles when they get cold.
Hey Rachel, pretty sure I first tried Blueland hand soap last year thanks to you talking about them! I’ve now been using the laundry soap and dishwasher tabs too…. And umm, I’m almost 100% sure that you put the laundry tablets in the dishwasher tin. The shape of the tablet matches the shape of the tin… and I just got the newly released spring blossom scent - for the laundry. 😅 The dishwasher ones are still only unscented. I hope you see this and double check that!!
You are correct. The laundry ones are the round tablets with scent, and the dishwasher ones are oval and are still without scent. It also states on the dishwasher packaging " unscented." Hopefully, she does see your post!
@@michelewatson1505 maybe she’s on to something and they clean the dishes even better?! 😆 but perhaps best to use as directed. 👍🏻 As soon as she said something about a pleasant smell, it was like 🚩 in my brain…something’s not right!
For salmon, you can also just smear on dijon mustard and then dust over with Old Bay seasoning. I make it a few times a month, and never once has it not been a juicy, zingy, crispy-skinned flavor bomb. So so good!
My trick to cookie salmon in the air fryer is to cook it skin side up. lightly cost the skin in oil so it crisps up. Time and temp are dependant on the thinkness, but you know salmon is done once the white stuff raises up through the pink salmon meat.
I didn't have one till recently but as I only cook for me and my partner I bought a small one for under £30 from Asda and it's literally changed everything for us I always thought they weren't necessary but my cooker went on the blink so I had to get one and it's amazing I understand the hype now x
For fresh salmon (around 4cm thick): Coat in a thin layer of Dijon and spicemix of your choosing. Skin side up, 200C, 6 min (I have a ninja airfrier which does not preheat, so maybe use you new little friend). It is so perfect! I love your videos, thank you for inspiring me:)
Growing up, ‘mayo’ baked salmon was always a staple holiday dish but it was neverrrrr just plain mayo…that sounds icky 😅 mayo needs to be mixed up with some salt & peper, a bunch of garlic powder, lemon juice and a whole lot of fresh dill. It’s incredible!!!
My tip for actually good salmon is to air fry it from frozen! My air fryer is huge so times and temps may differ for you, but I just take a frozen piece of salmon and air fry it for 17 minutes at 380F. Nothing goes on them, not even seasoning or oil (though successes have included lemon juice and salt) The outside actually does get a nice crisp to it and the inside is super juicy. I DONT like fish, and neither does my hunk, and we BOTH happily eat this regularly. We’re also really particular about textures and have found that Atlantic salmon is the best because most of the others get sort of pointy and sharp but Atlantic stays soft and buttery.
Hey Rachel love your air fryer recipes. I’ve had an air fryer for 8 years. I had the round glass type about 25 yrs ago. So love them. You and Christopher are just the cutest couple. ❤
Our blend for air fryer creamer potatoes. Creamer Potatoes (the smaller the better for us.) First thought for air fryer is definitely french fries. Also its not just you - we generally have to put whatever in the air fryer for a lot longer, or a lot less time. Now I just never believe them, and start checking it early. We have had raging success with tube crescent rolls in the air fryer. They are AMAZING. Also used the air fryer to cook cupcakes and muffins when our oven was out of order, and that also works pretty good. Mini size is best for getting the centers done. Thanks for testing all the popular recipes for us!
I use the jars of preminced garlic (for the extra saltiness) and make a super gritty mayo spread, sometimes with a hint of dijon/Ozark, pepper and other spices. Slather the salmon, wrap in foil and bake/steam. Fantastic
If you have a problem with salmon getting too dry, try cooking in an oven at 250° F. I cook a moderate sized peace for about 20 minutes, but it does depend on the size. Coat in olive oil first. You get the white fat coming up from the fish, looks weird but nothing wrong with it.
I usually cook salmon in the air fryer, roughly 7 minutes in 180 depending on size. I just put them in a ceramic dish and then add, garlic powder, salt pepper, paprika and dill, it gives the top a crust and it is always juicy and tender. Xx
for baked oatmeal, add more eggs. They will help it set up and create a better texture. they will also add protein Only add milk until wet I bake it in the oven
Oat recipes work best if you mix ahead (night before) then cook. We make oatmeal pancakes from 100% oatmeal (buzzed into a rough flour). My son loves them, but you must give the oats a few hours to absorb the liquids before cooking. Then you cook low and twice as long as a regular pancake. I suspect a make ahead for the batter would fix your baked oatmeal. But I’d also just bake it in my oven!
I JUST finished catching up to the video from 2 weeks ago so it made me happy that I didn't need to wait to see if the Ninja Crispi recipes turned out well
hii. pastry chef here ❤ you definitely don't need to drain the bananas. all that moisture was inside them at one point. it's just outside of the banana after you thaw them. use all the juices because that's all the flavour ❤❤ 🥰
For the salmon, you have to make sure it is COMPLETELY covered. You should not be able to see salmon, after you put the mayo on. Recipe: Salt & pepper your salmon first, ~Mix grated parm into the mayo, & spread it on the salmon (it will be thickish) - NO VISIBLE SALMON. ~Sprinkle with smoked paprika & more parm. ~Bake at 425°F for 12 minutes. Also works great with chicken.
I absolutely love seeing you pull and measure out your ingredients- now you just have to say the “now let’s get into this” and I’d be a full on nod to your old content!! Also why don’t you use your towel anymore to prevent mixing messes?
I’ve done baked oatmeal in the air fryer but I use the one that’s closer to a toaster oven. I blitz it in the blender first because I prefer that texture and stick it in a ramekin
I’ve actually done air fried pasta sheets and they turned out good. I made nachos either them. Have a restaurant called Adissons nearby that has a deep fried pasta nacho dish I love, so that’s how I got the idea.
I am not a fan of cooking salmon but I have found that in the ail fryer (if you keep an eye on it) it is very yummy. I have made the egg thing but before I cook it I will break the egg up a bit, almost like a scrambled egg without milk. It took a bit longer than the recipe says. I am going to try the baked oatmeal for sure.
I would have liked to see the final product on the oatmeal banana bread a bit better... it sounds very delicious, and the top looked pretty good as well 😊
02:28 oh, my first thought was air fried dumplings. Having fried jiaozi or gyoza without the mess of pan frying may or may not be the reason I bought an air fryer in the first place 😅
I tried a recipe from Tiffy Cooks (air fryer salmon) and it is delightful. It has mayo, soy sauce and oyster sauce, which season the salmon nicely. I usually do it without the glaze, just the marinade. It is so good. The only difference that I make when I cook it is I cut up salmon into bite size pieces, rather than cooking the whole fillet. It comes out really creamy and flavourful.
@janetshepherd7872 me too! Another one of my favourites is garlic black pepper chicken. I think she cooks it in a pan, but I air fry it. We have it at least couple nights a week, so good!
Would swap the paprika for cumin, on the gnocchi. On the salmon, I use a glaze of maple syrup, olive oil, lemon juice, liquid aminos and black pepper. Preheat to 400, place in basket, baste with mixture, cook for 7 minutes, halfway through, baste again, let time run out, baste a final time and plate it up.
For the cheese/egg tortilia I'm guessing the if you spread the cheese closer to the edge so that the edges are covered in cheese they wont get as crispy and the egg in the middle would have a larger area and be thinner. That way it would cook faster and more even.
I don't think I've ever used the airfryer for chips 🍟 😂 But then I got mine after seeing a bunch of videos like this. I think I mostly make pastry things or salmon.
The best salmon recipe I know of that uses mayo is to get shredded parmesan, the good stuff, not the powdered stuff, and mix it with a small amount of mayo, just enough to make the cheese stick together. Then, take the "sticky" cheese and put a thin layer on the salmon. I cook it until the cheese is lightly golden and it's done. I know that fish and cheese are normally a big no-no, but for some reason, this works. 🙂
8 *I have a few things that I make that are so much better in the air fryer. My favorite is a grilled cheese sandwich. I cook it at 380 for 6 minutes each side. Once you try it you’ll never grill one again! The same for Rueben sandwiches as the air fryer makes the perfect crunch for the bread. But the trick on it is to heat the meat, sauerkraut and cheese in the microwave for one minute and then put it on the bread before you cook it in the air fryer. Also 380 for 6 minutes on each side. The last is chicken…yes chicken. I fillet a chicken breast and with it open I load it up with ranch dressing followed by a layer of shredded Parmesan cheese along with grated Parmesan cheese. Close that up and repeat another layer of ranch, parm and parm. Then cut it in half (it makes enough for 2 people) and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. It’s ooey and gooey and tender and moist and sooooo good!*

@rachloveslife for the salmon, it does work in the oven and I used chili powder, salt pepper and lime juice in the mayo and places it on the salmon. It did insulate it and cooked it like you like because I like it that way.

I’m lucky because my rental came with a microwave that is also a convection oven- it works 1000 times better than my dumb air fryer! Plus being oven shaped means I can actually get a (smaller than normal but still decently big) baking sheet full of stuff in there! It heats up quickly, blows the hot air around, I’m pretty sure that’s all air fryers do but I can make our whole dinner at once and it cooks way more evenly. Next time I have to buy an appliance, I’m saving my air fryer money and just getting a microwave/convection oven combo instead 😝
the tortilla thing would be very hard to work, the tortilla itself cooks fast, the egg doesn't, i feel like if there's a way (not counting cooking it separately) maybe it's putting it in a very low temperature (less than 160c) and leave it for longer
I make a baked salmon recipe where you mix Mayo, parmesan cheese, lemon juice, salt and pepper and place on top of salmon and bake for 15 to 20 minutes
I tried to cook brownies in a dish in the air fryer. It didn’t work. If you notice, theirs didn’t totally set up either. Also, I cook most things on 400° but I just keep a watch on it. I live dangerously. 😂
Try cooking salmon this way instead: this is what we do in Italy or my Ukrainian mom who picked up on italian cuisine does. You heat up a pan and add a drizzle of olive oil chopped up garlic and cheap white wine to steam it. Let it cook for a while until I turns light pink and don't forget to flip it from time to time to make sure it's evenly cooked. Also cook it on medium to low heat. I find it always comes out juicy and tasty because of the garlic. You can also season it parsley and of course don't forget your salt and pepper. Works for me as I've done it a few times.
get you self a Ninja af500 that one is big and can do so much but I use the af400 dual square basket I think the air flow is much better then a round one
I love the concept of Blueland, but unfortunately since I have allergies to most fragrances, I can't really use their products. It's too bad because I have wanted to use their products for so long.
Maybe the recipe for the oatmeal would have worked better if you soaked the oatmeal in the milk for 5-15 minutes first. The oatmeal would have absorbed a lot of the milk first and it probably would have “baked” a lot quicker.
I think the airfryer is like the microwave oven when that first came out- everyone is trying to make this new gadget do everything and be the only appliance you'll need- but they just can't do everything. They are just not that good. Do I cook full meals or cakes in the microwave? No, but I use it almost every day and if it died I'd be getting a new one as soon as I could. Do I use my airfryer to cook full meals and cakes? No...well yes if you count chicken nuggets and chips as a full meal (which of course I do), but I use my airfryer several times a week and if it died I'd absolutely be looking for a replacement.
Someone (I forget who) did a bunch of tests showing that preheating any air fryer is unnecessary. It’s an extremely small space and gets up to temp almost immediately. Go ahead if you want, just saying! 😊 I live for these videos, so glad you posted! ❤
I didn't know that but I never preheat mine and I've never had an issue!
I've never preheated my air fryer
I sometimes adjust the time up but I never preheat. I use an instant pot duo though.
I think for the egg on a tortilla thing it was necessary so the egg sets a bit before it goes in since that one was partially uncooked.

salmon cooking time depends on the thickness of your salmon and if you preheated the airfryer. your piece was thin, so likely needed less time.
For the egg tortilla, take out the piece that fell out, so it has more direct heat with the bottom.

my first thought was cookies haha
I tried to cook brownies in a dish in the air fryer. It didn’t work. If you notice, theirs didn’t totally set up either.
Also, I cook most things on 400° but I just keep a watch on it. I live dangerously. 😂
Mix a few drops of liquid smoke to the mayo for your salmon
When I use frozen bananas, I always strain the juices off before meeting them... Also baked oatmeal does not always set us in the center
Wasabimayo on salmon!
I’ve got a square air-fryer and I can tell you it usually takes 10-15 mins to get an egg fried. It’s not just you
Try cooking salmon this way instead: this is what we do in Italy or my Ukrainian mom who picked up on italian cuisine does.
Chicken was indeed my very first thought when you said "what do you use an airfryer for?"
I love the concept of Blueland, but unfortunately since I have allergies to most fragrances, I can't really use their products. It's too bad because I have wanted to use their products for so long.
My first thought of the word air fryer was your videos
Rachel please get a new air fryer. Name her Airiana. 😂
I did, in fact, say “chicken” in my head when you asked😂
My first thought was chicken 🐔 (2:24)
I make a blueberry baked oatmeal that is super yummy. The cook time is same as the suggested time for this, so I don't think I'd try the air fryer
Maybe the recipe for the oatmeal would have worked better if you soaked the oatmeal in the milk for 5-15 minutes first. The oatmeal would have absorbed a lot of the milk first and it probably would have “baked” a lot quicker.
When you said, "when you think of an air frye, what do you think of?" I said,"Fryer Tuck"....yeah that wasn't the answer you were looking for😂😂😂
I think the airfryer is like the microwave oven when that first came out- everyone is trying to make this new gadget do everything and be the only appliance you'll need- but they just can't do everything.
The easiest way to cook salmon is to cut it into 1cm strips. Then pan fry in an even layer.
I feel the white part left jelly in the egg is the membrane and not the egg white, like it coagulates but it doesn’t set.
My first air fryer thought..... chips... from England so, what you call fries!
Rachel you need to put salmon in tinfoil. It keeps the moisture of the fish in so it doesnt dry out and doesnt overcook easily👌🏻😊
my first thought was garlic bread 😂
I wonder if you wrapped the salmon in tin foil, would that hold in the moisture better?
