    The fact that you found brand new tail lights in the truck is an indication to me that the prior owner took really good care of it and really liked the truck. One of my friends daily-drives a 305 gmt400 truck with 406k original miles. The transmission has been a weak point, but the engine doesn't burn any oil and still runs/works hard!
    I purchased a 2000 OBS K2500 8600gvwr 350ci crew cab 5yrs ago (now at 240k original miles). Gas mileage is terrible, but I always get where I need to be, and it's never failed to tow a load or start in below-zero weather. Rust (cancer) will end up totaling this truck, unfortunately; I had plans to repair/restore until I noticed a large rotted section of the frame (driver-side front). It's sad to just watch it go now. I can't find anyone who is willing to touch the frame.
    I'm so excited to watch this series :) Thanks guys!!

    I have a 98 k1500 Cheyenne. Love my truck. This body style is my favorite of them all. Got mine for a steal at $2000 4 years ago. It has the 5.7. Bought it at 156k miles. Now it is pushing 300k. Probably will hit that this summer. It's a great truck! Hauls everything I've ever needed it to. Pulls everything I've hooked to it. Never let me down. Only thing I've done to it is I put new rocker panels on as the old ones had a couple small holes. I still have my 89 also but its 2wd and also 3/4 ton. That truck has over 500k miles and refuses to quit. As long as I can find this series of Chevy trucks, I will never buy a newer truck. Perhaps an old square body or 2 maybe but finding those in decent shape for a good price is rare here in Pennsylvania. Great video and an awesome find on that one at that price. I would have flown out to Colorado myself and bought it if I saw it before you!

I like it so much it's my daily driver now. It's Built like a tank. Also great for Tahoe ski trips, exploring mountain trails and camping. Its been super reliable, parts are cheap, and I can fix/replace most things myself. With a 42 gallon tank I get close to 600 mile range. Only downside is the MPGs.

    I agree,
    I mentioned it a long time ago to my grandpa that I just couldn't afford a vehicle
    So he did some digging around and found me a red 1995 Chevy k1500 Silverado, bought it for me,
    And now all i have to do is come up with the money to buy a new not rotted frame with the parts I need that aren't rotted, swap that in, put some ducktape around the parts I worry about rusting and rotting (i live in the soaking wet salty British Columbia) do a little body work and my truck will be mint,
    These trucks came with a good engine if you got a 350 (5.7L) and I hear the transmissions are very reliable as in not blowing up, but sometimes their not very reliable in the way of the automatics shifting into gear, or idling to speed
    But at the same time maybe that's the previous owners fault with my truck
    Over all these trucks are amazing. Take care of a Chevy truck and it will take care of you.

    SL/Cheyenne - basic cloth interior, no center armrest, Chevrolet decal on tailgate, power locks available but not power windows (I had a 98 SL with power locks but windows weren’t available) painted rear bumper, no 3rd door, less side moldings etc
    SLE/Scottsdale - premium cloth interior, power locks and windows, 3rd door, chrome bumper, full side moldings and bumper moldings, premium radios available
    SLT/Silverado -leather, big Silverado/Chevrolet plate on tailgate, chrome rear bumper could get auto dimming rear mirror and premium radios etc.

      Me too! Had a thought about the Ike; how about starting out with a light trailer load, and running the three trucks up. Then increase by 1000 lbs until the fastest truck is floored going up the Ike. Crown a winner.

    we used to have one of these a few years ago. my parents got one that was basically new from a neighbor back in 1999-2000ish. so it was a 2 owner truck that I remember, we drove the crap out of it & my dad/mom combined put almost 200K on it. toward the last 1/4 of its life my Mom was driving it & one of the coolant hoses popped off, what happened was the engine kept getting hotter & hotter until it couldn't take it anymore & cracked the heads. she didn't even think to look at the temp needle until it was too late & the damage was done.
    got it home & my dad pulled the heads off, put new ones on & she was good to go after about 6 months of work & a Hanes manual of the truck. even with 200k it ran very well & shifted well, one of the heads was a little lose & was leaking oil that the owner after we sold it fixed then sold it to a Mexican.
    Since then I've had fond memories in that old truck w the 350 & no muffler & would love to find another again for a 2nd truck. I drive a 93 7.3 idi ZF5 diesel truck & it's great. the truck is bone stock & hasn't seen much or any power mods at all & plan to keep it like that, its way too nice to modify & put turbos on to make more power. before my 93 i had a 95 f250 that is a twin of my 93. the only difference is that the truck was a 95 & not a 93, it the 93 has an a mechanical drivetrain/7.3 idi & ZF5 rwd & the 95 was a 7.3PSD/T444E with an E4OD that shifted ok.
    I love my diesel, but it would be nice to get a 1998 K1500 w a 350, basically the same truck yall got.
    That is my favorite year OBS chevy truck the diesels were junk at that time, the gassers are where the goodness is. almost anything during the 1990s is pretty good.

    I had a truck like this for about 8 years, my brother has it now.. Still one of the best trucks I've ever owned except I had a 350. Pre-vortec (pre-95) was TBI injected and 96 up was multi-port. One of the simplest, cheapest and easiest trucks engines to work on ever. You guys got a good one there. Check the codes, it might have a G80 already. Another thing, at the time they never made the 1500 with a crew cab, you had to step up to the 2500 for the crew cab. I could tell you almost everything you want know about these age trucks.

    Sagging doors on those years of GM are very common. You can probably adjust the door hinges to fix that. Surprising that the dash only has that one small crack on it. GM's from that era were notorious for falling apart. The engine sure does sound solid. You guys made a great score. Hopefully you can find an F-150 from that era!

    I am a Ram guy. My parents have a '01 1500 (~270k miles) and I recently bought an '02 2500 diesel (~227k miles), and they have been very dependable for us. The automatic transmission has been the only money pit but everything else on those trucks has done what it needs to do and been very reliable. That being said: I completely agree Chevy made some seriously good trucks around this time, and I have recommended them to good friends on numerous occasions. If I were shopping for a full-size truck on a budget, 90's Chevys would be right at the top of my list. That's a very nice truck y'all bought there, I look forward to seeing more action with it (and no hard feelings if it out performs the Dodge).

    In the 90s Chevy put the Detroit locker in the rear-end, I had a 1990 Scottsdale and it come from the factory with the Detroit locker, I like that truck it had a bulldog transmission in it with the 5.0 305 in it and it was a really good truck for me for 8 years only problem I ever had with the motor was a radiator hose

    I would’ve paid $3200 for this truck in a heartbeat. The 305 gets a bad rap but it’s a solid engine, and this truck is just incredibly clean for its age. I feel like the seller could’ve gotten another 2k, easily.

    • @GMTfourhundred
      @GMTfourhundred 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah they had problems like way back in the 70s lol, by the time these trucks came out with the TBI and Vortec engines, the 305 is just as solid as the 350.

    I don’t have a 4x4, but six months ago I was at a friends house, his neighbor had a 96 c2500 Silverado (5.7). That he changed most the brake lines and said it needed a fuel pump. So he sold it to me for $1000. I’ve changed the fuel pump, finished the brakes, fixed the oil leak at the oil cooler, and a few other minor things costing about $500 total. It’s quiet (a bit too quiet for me) and runs!

    Covid has done crazy things to prices. I bought a 1998 k1500 Silverado trim with the 5.7 in 2012 for 2250 bucks. 286k kms on it. Almost got 400k on it now. I did have to replace all the ball joints and steering linkage and both rear wheel seals when I bought it but still!
    Anyway price aside these are some of the best trucks GM made. The fuel pumps were weak but pretty much everything else was bulletproof

    Since TFL and other channels like yours, gave the public interested in over landing and or off roading, great reviews on these older trucks and suvs and their opinion to buy these for said activities, the price on these vehicles are way high. The only ones I have found that are under 5k usd have shot engines, rust, and 200 - 300K miles! So this buy is a gold mine of a deal!

  • @suburbanfreak87
    @suburbanfreak87 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love the late 90s model and I love my 2wd 97 suburban for a grand with way more options which I have rebuilt from the ground up over the years. Never had any problems with seat tear and I got two driver side seats, the problem I have is the frame rail for those seats. Suggestion: Bilstein shocks 5100 shocks that you can get from your local part stores (have to special order most likely), leveling kit and 33s or an actual lift and 35 (need to regear to 4.10s though), keep at least 1/4 tank full to keep fuel pump cool, Go with a yukon or Eaton G80 for locker choice, and If you have any problems with fuel injectors - the updated MPFI version GP Sorenson are really good.

      Rooting for the chevy all the way!! I've had about ten of those. If you are worried about the trip to moab. The only problem you'll have is steering. The front ends are kind of crummy, the drive train is bullet proof. Sometimes the 4 wheel drive actuator motor refuses to work. Such a good truck tho.
