Security is a big deal on cruise ships because you have a lot of people and many have been drinking. Things can get out of hand in those environments. I took a cruise once and had an interesting chat with a security officer who shared some stories of what they have to deal with. They aim to be around but not really seen unless situations (like this one) require their intervention. Then, they act.
I went on a three day cruise a few years back, but I don’t foresee myself ever going on another. I felt claustrophobic, saw a lot of couples fighting, and truthfully I just didn’t like it
as a former carnival crew member....this is why we had a brig..... also many of our security were former Gurkha soldiers....they may not look intimidating but i'd never tangle with one...

They really should do away with the drink packages. Realistically they set out to get as drunk as possible and stay drunk the entire trip. I actually saw people drinking mixed drinks at breakfast in the MDR. Maybe start serving later or something. Even bars close on the mainland. Ever issue I have ever seen on a cruise has involved someone that was smashed on alcohol.
