  • In this episode of the Big Block Crown build we get stuck into mounting a Sheet metal Ford 9" diff into the Crown chassis and modify the suspension layout from 3 link/Panhard rod to triangulated 4 link.
Thanks to Matt from Rogan Industries for the expertise. @roganindustries

well... or you are in Germany... imported classic US car, it came with upgraded brakes, got registered, 3 years later brakes had to be repaired- nobody wanted to do it because besides OEM parts everything is illegal to use and the engineer can't say OK because most parts for US cars don't come with the needed paperwork.. and because the car was modified in the first place there are no fitting OEM parts available... so the only legal way would have been to downgrade the disc brakes to the original drum brakes.. which is also not possible because the needed parts are not available anymore...

If it's a matter of keeping the rear in the middle and giving it all the mobility required, then look no further than 1907 ish. They had a very, stupid, simple design. Basically, a triangle that came from the mid section, meeting in the middle of the pumpkin with their equivalent of a ball end (it was a leather lash setup). Nothing more, nothing less than pure simplicity. If it worked for 1,5 ton trucks back then it works now too. All the mobility required up and down, all the mobility required in the axle swing, no quarter given to side to side, no quarter given to axle wrap-around (they had to deal with this even harder because of the odd chain driven setup).

I would not use poly on the upper bushing. It will bind and break things. I'd use johnny joints (what you used on the lower arm at the axle) or heims on the upper mount because any deflection there will result in wheel hop.... that design is what GM used in their a-bodies (from 1964 up).... the other consideration is the height of the upper mounts so your instant center does what you want (burnout machine, you'd put that point as close to the rear as possible, if you want it to hook - put the IC about the middle of the crank at the rear of the motor....
