My "MacFadyn" family came from Mull.
Of course this was centuries ago.
The island had a MacFadyn chieftain.
Would like to make it there before my time is up.

I had to pause the video 12 mins in just to say how much i love this already. I know that for some reason these type of vids aren't as successful as the ones about America, but please know that you've made at least one person immensely happy with these vids. I truly tear up while witnessing the beauty of your nation. Thank you so much for this vid and all your Scottish content. It is VERY appreciated 💜

Scotland the land of my dreams. The Country I long for.
Shaun that was an absolutely amazing video! The Isle of Mull is one of the many places I want to see and Iona because that's where Christianity was introduced into Scotland. Oban is another place I so want to see. Such a beautiful place Scotland is. I pray that soon I will be able to visit. I have to say this was by far your best video yet. It is so nice to see Teka more and more in your videos. She's a beautiful lady! Thank you so much Shaun for taking me...all of us on another fantastic journey through Scotland. How blessed you are to call her "Home". God bless you and Teka always and I pray you have a very wonderful time visiting the States. Enjoy!💞🌷🕊️🙏🙃

Loved staying in Oban & taking the ferries to the Isle of Mull & Isle of Iona. We had hard rain on Iona once we came out of the Abbey. Love your videos as I left my heart in Scotland on my second trip. Edinburgh feels like "home" & I'm from Nashville, TN USA. Hello there from America, Shaun.
I am enjoying book 3 of The Isle of Mull series by Hugh Rae written under the name of Jessica Stirling.
Of course, these lovely stories make me want to see and learn more of the romantic and rustic lands of Mull so how lucky for me that you posted a video showing off this beautiful Island.

Shaun, thank you so much for this. I just wish you would have gotten more shots of Duart and would have gone to Moy castle. But, it was still a very good video. I like to think I was the one that got you to go there as, I had asked if you would in the comments of another video. My mother is a McClain, and our ancestors hail from Moy. I will probably never get to go there, so this video may be the closest I get. It looks so beautiful there, and I'll bet it's even more so in the summer. Thank you again Shaun. Take care.

I lived in Scotland my whole life and never stepped foot on the Isle of Iona, or Mull. I actually do have to go to the Isle of Iona because my ancestor King Malcolm of Scotland is buried there. Thank you for showcasing this beautiful island Shaun.
Edit - Am so glad you included that wee bit about the connection between Tobermory and Balamory. My boy, who's now 19 years old, used to sing "Babamoby" when he was a tot, roughly aroon 2 year old. Will never forget Miss Hoolie, Josie Jump, Archie, etc etc - all the characters from the tv show. Was definitely for pre-schoolers.
Also, just another wee point Shaun - that was so dangerous doing that on that boat. My heart was in my throat there watching you doing that - oaft! I used to work at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine, way back in the year 2000 and I would take visitors on tours around the pontoons, the shipyard workers flat, through the linthouse and the biggest attraction at the time was the burned "Carrick" - I could only take people on that boat, to certain parts of it and had to say, don't go to that bit or that bit 'cause it's no safe and you could fall through. So aye, defo don't try this at home LOL.
If you're interested in monasteries, the Kilwinning Abbey was built by monks. It's also the town that has the very first ever Mother Lodge which has been looked after for a good few hundred years now. Interesting for a wee swatch around the place. If you ever go to Kilwinning, Scots Cafe is great for a bite to eat.

The Isle of Mull! That area is where my Grand Dad is from! Now that is awsome on a stick! In fact most of my family is from the Mull-Lock Lomond area, with some Uncles and Aunts nearby. I went to visit the area about 6 or 7 years ago. The Isles with the Puffins was a favorite stop for photographing Puffins. There was one little Puffin that followed me around. One type of bird would bully the Puffins which is why they stayed close to people for protection. We loved Tobormory and there is a lot to experience in the islands. I wanted to head further North to see the Northern Lights but didn't have time. We were looking for more family sites, so I'll have to plan another trip to see more of the area. Glasgow and Edinburgh has so much history. And I'll have to see more of the area just to see more of the history since I am a history nut. My Clan affiliation is the MacLean of Duart. So we signed the Roster when we visitd the Castle. My youngest daughter loved the history since she is a High School History Teacher. If you haven't visited the castle, they have a lot restored with a lot of the weapons displayed like pole axes, swords, armor, etc. It is great to see all the weapons in good condition. Thanks Shaun for the video of the area and on the next visit perhaps we could meet and go to the tour of Duart, my treat. Little did I expect the area to be so close together.
If you make back to the states you have to stay with us. We are near to the Kings Mountain Battlefield where Ferguson was killed. The Battlefield is a easy day trip and Ferguson's grave is well marked. One of his rifles (Ferguson Rifle) is on display at the museum. Perhaps we can catch the battle reenactment at the same time.

Cheers Shaun, it's always nice to see some of these places that are local to me - from different eyes.
I did a piece on the rainforest if you're interested, it's in the channel 😀
    Keep on keepin' on

The decks of the ferry remind me of the decks of our steamboat, the Belle of Louisville. I expected to hear a steam whistle and a calliope play!

Your photography is spectacular in all my favorite places. On a Tobermory distillery tour in 2016 our guide took great pains to give us the proper pronunciation of Ledaig. It's lay-chick. Kilchurn castle has been pronounced Kill kern or Kill earn by locals. Just so you know. Those of us watching and listening want to get it right. ❤

Great drone shots. What month did you go there? We are going to Mull next week. This was more of a hotel review, than a review of Mull. Would like to have seen more of the island.

Thanks for sharing this Shaun, long-time fan and loved this episode. Tbh, I'm studying to be a professor of Scottish history (when not doing fantasy-videos!), and found this an invaluable video (as all of your videos are), currently deciding between moving to France, Scotland or the Philippines to teach Scottish Medieval History. I must admit your videos make me wanna move to SL to teach on one of the tiny isles!
Love Duart Castle in particular, any chance of an extended video of the castle and Iona pls? Love the history of both, especially Iona! Your video makes me want to move to the Isle of Iona!

Ions is truly special. Unfortunately I’m not a great historian and wouldn’t do it much justice - everything I found came from Wikipedia. But there is a lot of good reading to be had on it 😀

My ancestors are buried in the Iona Abbey. I believe his sister was a nun who was killed there on the shores along with Monks during a Viking raid. MacDomhnall (Mac Donald) line were seafaring lairds who pretty much owned and controlled Mull Islay Iona up into Glencoe during 900AD. Even though MacDomhnall married a Viking Norse woman from Orkney, he fought against the Vikings and threw them out of the Islands of Scotland. They had favor with the King of England for a while until Father and Son fought against each other over I think wanting independence from England. Father killed son and I believe the son wanted to continue speaking Scottish Gaelic but father wanted to continue his relationship with the King. So...they're the reason Scotland speaks English and lost most of the language. In the Abbey, I think I heard one of them are buried with their sword. Later those descendents got involved in the first Jacobite rebellion and were put on British slave ship Scripio and made to be slaves in New World 1719 as the first Scots to land. :) When I look at Iona...for some reason my heart says -- That's home.
