Looks like a good solution for someone that only needs to heat the garage while they are in the garage. However, I needed a solution that was safe enough that I could leave it running all the time, day and night, to keep the garage above 50 degrees or so and never let it drop below that. The idea is to maintain a temperature that is better for my cars and won't allow my auto detailing chemicals to freeze. My only option seems to be electric infrared heaters. I've installed one infrared 1500W heater and it seems to keep the garage just above 50 degrees when it's cold out. I plan to install another one on the other side of the garage (on a separate circuit) in hopes that the two of them might be able to maintain the garage temp at around 60 degrees, which I'd be fine with. Yes, I will have a higher electric bill from December through March, but that's just how it is unless I go to the expense of installing a 240v power line and get a more powerful heater, or install a mini-split. The heaters I got are also WiFi and are programmable via an app on my phone. I was able to setup rules to run the heater at different levels depending on outside temperature, or turn the heater off if the outside temp is above 50 degrees. The important thing is to make sure you garage is somewhat well insulated, including garage doors and any windows, so that it keeps the cold air out and keeps the warm air in. I insulated my garage doors a couple of weeks ago and plan to insulate my garage windows this weekend. It was 23 degrees outside last night and my garage stayed between 50 and 55 degrees, with the heater running intermittently to maintain that.

im looking at buying one of these. question thought. if you have it turned up all the way. how close can you stand up to it without it being extremely hot? The reason im asking is, where i am wanting to install it, my bass boat sits about 3ft away from it.
Great question. i believe the manual says 24-36 inches from whatever is directly in front of it and at least 18 inches above it must be free. if its an aluminum boat with nothing flammable in the immediate area, its risky, but your call. if its a fiberglass hull, i wouldnt run that risk at all. What i did was install it about 4.5ft up on the wall and had a fan above it as shown in the video. and it works extremely well. Hey, John. I have a video on the channel with a year review about it all. But in short, the moisture hasn’t done any “damage” to my gym equipment. No extra surface rust on any equipment or weight plate that would’ve otherwise happened on its own without the heater. My garage isn’t the most sealed. Which conveniently enough, allows me to not even have to open a window. (I’m looking at my not-so-well sealed garage as a plus in this light lol) So, if you have a well insulated area, ventilation via a cracked open window should be enough. Great Great Great video. New Sub I bought a mini split but I'm gonna switch to this setup for my 10x20 off grid shed cabin For your morning dew moisture issue just pick up a nice humidifier and that will solve it.
I have one question: How close can you put an item before it starts getting kinda too hot. Obviously vinyl is different then metal but I am sure you have noticed this before. And I know the fan makes a difference also. Helpful experience is welcome. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
I ordered this heater, the regulator, an all-metal fan, and a dehumidifier all because of this video. You did a great, real person, review! Oh, and I also ordered a new carbon monoxide detector just in case.
Hey, Miguel! I appreciate you watching! The new video is up. It’s a deep dive 1 year review. I pinned the comment above with the link. Or look on my channel, it’s my most recent upload. 🤟🏽
No issues at all. only difference is that the 100lb will last you a bit longer. I run mine constantly for 2-3 hours a day and im usually good for a 2-ish months. Just remember, your time on either size tank will depends on how the insulation is in your garage, how big it is, and how big of a change in temperature you want. Cheers!
a 20 lb tank to this unit will run CONTINUOUSLY ON LOW for about 3 days,,, or figure about 70 hours max.... he doesn't stress that the unit has a temperature gauge and off/on feature automatic... Personally, I would hook this up to at least a 40lb tank...
Bro I got a garage gym also but I can only use it in fall and spring. Too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Since it’s winter I’m going to try your solution thanks! What’s the name brand and where’d u buy it???
Dude!! Lmao, I am going crazy tryna find the right heater for my garage. I went with tha Dr. heater 1500w and hopefully I won’t be disappointed. Good video! 👍🏻
I have a 3 car garage which is my man cave with spool table and a gy.m in there. Mine is fully insulated even the doors too. Did you seal all the cracks around garage door, windows, door that goes to yard ett For the heater to be more efficient??
I have this same setup and it will run close to 18 hours on a 20 pound tank. I have since dug a copper pipe from my 500 pound tank to the heater to supply the gas to the shed. That tank also is the supply gas for my house furnance and hot water heater. A lot cheaper to buy the fuel, to heat with, buy several dollars. A lot of times people will sell larger tanks on places like Craigslist, local farm auctions, or in the newspapers.
I currently have a Mr. Heater 30,000-60,000 BTU bullet propane heater but I can smell the propane in my 2-car garage after running it for a while. Do you smell any propane with this one? Do you have to open a door or window when running it which is recommended for my bullet heater which seems counter-productive to me. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hey Kelly! It is recommended at times to have a crack in the window. 1) for the sake of the propane gases (circulation) 2) for the humidity. Propane will displace air because of its characteristics; so if there’s too much in there, you’ll know because you’re short of breath. But do not fear as it won’t have any long term impacts if only done accidentally once or twice. But there’s a reason why I don’t think you’ll ever get to that point. I don’t know where you are in, but there are chemicals in the propane added to give off an odor. It smells like off milk or rotten eggs. So if it does smell like that; I’d check your connections with soapy water and the hose itself with soapy water. HOWEVER if the heater is new (less than 10hours used) the metals and glue inside haven’t settled in yet which gives off an odor for the first few hours than it goes completely away and that smell isn’t related to the propane. Be sure to have at least one carbon monoxide detector as well! For circulation have a fan moving the air around. It’ll heat up the area faster and keep it more comfortable. Crack the window ever so slightly to get new air coming in and old air out. Hope that helps. Peace love and positivity!
I forgot to add; if you see the soapy water on the connections get bubbly, you have a leak. Sometimes the hose itself might have a crack, in which case the soapy water will help there, too. One more thing, if you don’t have a regulator or hose that is meant for propane specifically, the pressure will cause the inside of the hose to slowly breakdown causing a smell to appear and will eventually harm your heater. Okay now I’m done. Lol!
@@carlosistribe Carlos, that you very much for the info. I ordered the Mr. Heater 30,000 BTU radiant heater as no one had the Dyna-GLo but they look identical and reviews are good. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have some built in wooden shelves in the garage. Do you think I could mount it on the front of this “shelf ledge”? It’s a 2x4 that runs horizontally.
Hey JWB - im not sure what you mean by on the front. But my 1-year update video has a lot of common questions and, if i remember correctly, i go over the distances that it needs to be away from certain things. Cheers!
@@carlosistribe I built wooden shelves , and I have a couple 2x6 as vertical supports. I was thinking about mounting the unit to these vertical supports. So I guess I’d picture it like “exposed studs” except it’s a shelf behind it
I notice my propane tank makes an air noise as the heater is on , but when the heater is off it goes away. I checked for leaks no bubbles. Is this normal?
Absolutely. I didn’t chat about the carbon monoxide detector, but def should have one. I have three which is a little much but that’s what I like. The fan also finally came in (the one I showed that was being shipped) and it made it 100000% better. So long story short, yes, I def recommend this set up. I used it this morning. Lol
@@carlosistribe Good stuff bro 👍 thanks for the review. I have a 2 car garage and do all of my own car maintenance so having a warm space to do oil changes and what not would be perfect.
@@OGCJ10 absolutely! Just as an FYI, be sure to go around and plug any holes/gaps that lead outside. I went around my garage door frames and saw a ton of gaps. This will make the heat escape quicker. I also threw some towels on my windows where the two sliding glass meet. A bit of expanding foam did the trick for me on the garage frame gaps. It doesn’t make the garage 100% insulated, but every bit helps.
Could be, I haven’t looked too much into that as it doesn’t bother me in the amount that I deal with. Unless it’s true radiant or wood, I would assume moisture from any other type of open flame.
yeah - usually what youre smelling is the adhesives in the heater settling. if youre using the propane route, it'll smell like rotten eggs. its a smell you cant miss or confuse with anything else. be sure to check the hose connection with soapy water. if it bubbles, you may have a leak.
I appreciate your kind words! My lady and I always watch your videos 💙 we love the positive outlook, the good vibes are always something we look forward to!

good question. Not sure on the model number off the top of my head. but this model has both options. on the bottom, depending which connection head you connect to, will go for either propane or NG.
That’s a great point I came across a few weeks after posting this video. It will most definitely make a difference. But most of my equipment is fully painted so I’m not to worried about rust or have seen any up until now.
@@Racontact hey - thanks for watching the video! To respond to your comment, it’s inaccurate. Grills and indoor heaters have different ways to ignite the propane. So long there is a way to ventilate the humidity, everything is safe. Not to mention, the sensors inside the heater will cut off if the oxygen levels are too low. Feel free to google the ways they ignite the propane. Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
Hey Cheryl :) by theory you are 100% right. However, if you knew how much air escapes/enters via the gaps in the garage doors, you’d say it’s like already having three windows open 😂. Thanks for watching ❤️
Eletric portable oil filled heater are good and better than space heaters. Once the room gets to temp it turns off but the radiator retains the heat making the area cool down slower and the heater doesn't need to run as often because of that.
I would agree but the time it takes to heat up and get the room to temp is a major downfall for my specific needs. I would opt for that style in my room or office where I would be spending more than just 1 or 2 hours in.
That is a good option for regular indoor areas, but in garages, when the door may need to be opened in the winter, even briefly, all that warm air is almost gone and you're back to square one with that unit taking a long time to heat up a very cold garage.
Hi Bryan! On my channel is the new video with a One Year Review and Most Asked Questions. Or you can scroll up to my pinned comment on top of the comment section. That is the link to the video as well. Thanks for watching, Bryan!
@@carlosistribe I have had issues with propane ventless heaters putting a lot of moisture in the air...had tools rusting in garage etc...so I have been using a "Chinese Diesel" vented heater--runs on diesel fuel for days on end and vents thru the wall...cheap and no moisture. But you have a great video and installation---I suspect if you're in a very dry climate the condensation and moisture would be less of a problem...
Problem I’ve heard about using a propane heater, is the moisture it puts in the air. You noticed it yourself with the water vapor on your weights. And with my garage being used as a woodworking shop, all my equipment and tools would start to gain rust. I say that as it’s happened to others. Wish it wasn’t an issue, or I’d be using that heating system!
Hey James - Luckily (or unluckily) my garage isn't well insulated or air tight. Because of that, moisture has not been a problem at all. And with the fan in place as an extra way to circulate air, I have yet to run into that issue. Pop in a dehumidifier into your garage. There are fairly inexpensive ones that start around to $40-$50 USD range. Without a doubt, that will definitely fix the issue, should it become one. Thanks for watching! :)
Hi, Cathy! not sure what you mean exactly by space heaters. But if you mean the electrical ones that plug into a normal outlet at home, those in terms of cost, is the least feasible for a garage that isnt well insulated and of this size. Trust me, i tried. I had four 1500 watt space heaters lol barely moved the temperature up 3-4 degrees. And thats not taking into account the sky rocketing of my electrical bill for those two months. hahahaha
great question. sorry about the Mic situation. im not really good at this filming stuff lol i bought it because i used the converter/adapter hose. the other video on my channel goes deeper into the review. thanks!
Great question Nolan! Mine vary a bit as sometimes I like the garage warmer than before, as well as the temp outside affecting the ambient temp. I normally workout at 6a sharp, so the day's highest temp is still closer to the lowest as opposed to the highest (usually noon). in this case, I let it run on high for 30min prior to my workout and the garage will go from ~29 degrees to 55-62 degrees i will then bring it down to low once i am in the garage. When its like this, id say about 12 hours of use. What will make the biggest difference in temperature and efficiency of your fuel is the fan. that will help heat the cold air and distribute the warm air. I hope this helped! Peace Love and Positivity!
@@markbrinton6790 hey mark! If you have the exact variables I do as stated above, yeah. It’s going to be unique to everyone. I was heating a 24x24 from 20 degrees to about 55 to 65. So mine was on the highest setting until it reached that temp. Afterwards I would keep it on low until I was done working out. Lol not to mention my terrible insulation, or lack thereof. From the trial and error, research and consulting from HVAC companies, this was the most cost effective way without full blown installing better insulation in the walls and going with a heating system that would require labor and expensive parts. Being that I only use this for 3-4 months, it’s the best solution for me. If you’re around freezing temps year round, then I’d opt to go the full route and not this if you can . A 20lb tank refill is about $15-20 bucks. So theoretically I get between 6-12 comfortable workouts in with a tank. A little over a dollar a workout is more than reasonable for me. I’m not in that garage more than 2 hours at a clip. Remember you can run off the ambient temp for a bit and then have it crank back up when the sensor detects the temp dropped (settings 1-5 on the heater) It doesn’t have to be on 100% of the time as I do. Electrical won’t get anywhere near that cost. And actually gas with better insulation might do that. But the upfront cost will be in the thousands. So if you’re full time working in your space (I.e. 6-8hrs a day )then I would opt the more expensive route. If you’re just working out a few hours a day or a weekend warrior working on some hobbies, this is beyond reasonable. Hopefully my over detailed response helped lol cheers!
And it'll get cold in your garage and when it heats up it'll rust every piece of equipment in your garage instantly you'll watch every piece of metal equipment in your garage turn orange with rust trust me on this one
l've had this for years now. zero rust in my gym. as long as its ventilated, the moisture doesn't mess anything up. I run this everyday, so if this was true, i'd notice it by now.
Great question - around me propane is much more readily available and simplistic to use, at least for me. It's been a true 'plug and play' method. Thanks for watching!

@@carlosistribe Thanks so much. I've been doing tons of research and didn't want to spend a lot of money just to find the one. Thanks again.
Do you have any issues with the 20lb tank rather than than 100lb? I really only want to
Run it when it gets close to
Below freezing in the garage
No issues at all. only difference is that the 100lb will last you a bit longer. I run mine constantly for 2-3 hours a day and im usually good for a 2-ish months. Just remember, your time on either size tank will depends on how the insulation is in your garage, how big it is, and how big of a change in temperature you want. Cheers!
@@carlosistribe thx!
How long will it run on one tank of gas? And you might consider a decent humidifier to lower moisture.

a 20 lb tank to this unit will run CONTINUOUSLY ON LOW for about 3 days,,, or figure about 70 hours max.... he doesn't stress that the unit has a temperature gauge and off/on feature automatic... Personally, I would hook this up to at least a 40lb tank...
Bro I got a garage gym also but I can only use it in fall and spring. Too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Since it’s winter I’m going to try your solution thanks! What’s the name brand and where’d u buy it???
Its a DynaGlo Wall Heater 30,000 BTU
How many hours do you get out of the tank at what setting.

Answering this in the new video review coming Friday!
Great review. Helped answer a lot of questions that I had. Thanks
Thanks ! 1 year review coming Friday!
On average how long will the tank last? If you use it about 4 hours a day?
I have this same setup and it will run close to 18 hours on a 20 pound tank. I have since dug a copper pipe from my 500 pound tank to the heater to supply the gas to the shed. That tank also is the supply gas for my house furnance and hot water heater. A lot cheaper to buy the fuel, to heat with, buy several dollars. A lot of times people will sell larger tanks on places like Craigslist, local farm auctions, or in the newspapers.
One year review coming Friday! And I’ll answer this there as well!

Long term low level exposure can cause alot of bad things later in life. Just my two cents.
I have a kerosene heater, when you turn it on and off it smells, just have to keep it at a medium range, it's for indoor and outdoor ,very useful
So I guess I’d picture it like “exposed studs” except it’s a shelf behind it
Thanks bud. You saved me alot of time and money! Nice setup BTW!
Oh yeah. I "liked" the video

I notice my propane tank makes an air noise as the heater is on , but when the heater is off it goes away. I checked for leaks no bubbles. Is this normal?

@@carlosistribe answer if you also smell a slight gas or fume smell as well.
You need a vented heater. That is designed for use in a well ventilated area only. Carbon monoxide is literally being dumped into your garage
Thanks for the video. Looking to replace my big buddy heater. On average how many minutes or hours does that propane tank last you?
One year review coming Friday! Answering this specifically!

is itt possible to connect it to a wall thermostat so u can control it via wifi?
good question - im not too sure about that. I kept my set up as simple as i could
This video is about 9 months old. Do you still recommend this set up ? Is there anything you would change ?
@@carlosistribe Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely go this route. Glad I watched your video.
I think the condensation issue is from using propane instead of natural gas. Propane puts a lot more moisture into the air.
Could be, I haven’t looked too much into that as it doesn’t bother me in the amount that I deal with. Unless it’s true radiant or wood, I would assume moisture from any other type of open flame.
I have natural gas n it does it also. It's the moisture
Is it supposed to smell gas when you first install it I heard let it run for a while to see if it goes away
yeah - usually what youre smelling is the adhesives in the heater settling. if youre using the propane route, it'll smell like rotten eggs. its a smell you cant miss or confuse with anything else. be sure to check the hose connection with soapy water. if it bubbles, you may have a leak.

When you burn propane or kerosene it produces moisture! Every time you start it up you get condensation on anything metal. It sucks.

Have you tried a dehumidifier to reduce the moisture in the room?
That’s a great point I came across a few weeks after posting this video. It will most definitely make a difference. But most of my equipment is fully painted so I’m not to worried about rust or have seen any up until now.
Gracias por los tips mi chingon
jajaja! a la orden, amigo mio!
Same as running your propane bbq grill in the garage.
You still need to make sure you have a window open a little for air ventilation. Never burn fumes in a closed up space or room😢

Does it come with the fan sensor in the back
No fan with the unit. There is one you can buy that goes inside of the unit tho. Although I don’t recommend it. I used the one on top.
You should hire an Hvac contractor to install a unit heater
About how much run time can you get from a 20lb tank ?

No vent. This unit is ventless - One year review coming Friday!
Hey bro how long does a tank last you??
Hey Jordan, take a look at one of the comment posted below. I give a detailed run down on how long it last! 🤙🏽

What’s is the link
How long dose a 20 lb tank last
One year review coming Friday!
Is it really loud?
good question. not at all. the residential fan i have is louder lol
Space Heaters !
Hi, Cathy! not sure what you mean exactly by space heaters. But if you mean the electrical ones that plug into a normal outlet at home, those in terms of cost, is the least feasible for a garage that isnt well insulated and of this size. Trust me, i tried. I had four 1500 watt space heaters lol barely moved the temperature up 3-4 degrees. And thats not taking into account the sky rocketing of my electrical bill for those two months. hahahaha
im confused when you say it required a 100 g tank n didnt want to buy it, yet you bought it anyway n used a 20.....also pls keep mic close. thnks
great question. sorry about the Mic situation. im not really good at this filming stuff lol i bought it because i used the converter/adapter hose. the other video on my channel goes deeper into the review. thanks!

Great video. Nice Congolese flag in the background.
I appreciate the kind words, Stan! And yes, sir! I am proud of my lineage!
How long does a 20 pound propane last thanks in advance I’m also looking at one of these
Great question Nolan!
@@carlosistribe the 20lb tank only lasts about 12 hours? How much is the tank to fill? Sounds very expensive. Is it?
If you’re around freezing temps year round, then I’d opt to go the full route and not this if you can
