I have a theory about the Yami Yami no mi. The reason why blackbeard cannot turn into Darkness himself is because he is standing in light. In total darkness, he can become darkness completely and absorb anything. Hence why they covered Whitebeard's body with a sheet when blackbeard went to steal his devil fruit.
Ive heard of this theory a lot. It's quite plausible.

Take you into darkness and crush you. Plus I don't think that's the best it can do. Secondly he has the Quake Quake fruit. Capable of destroying Wano itself. It'll definitely be able to hurt Kaido. Third both capable of Awakening. Fourth we do know Blackbeard got stronger after the timeskip. He laughs and the entire island shakes.

Actually no kaido's strength is Absolute he's a monster even without using his devil fruit blackbeard Df can nullify df abilities but cannot nullify physical strength black beard might be able to disable kaido's dragon ability but not his sheer strength heck if kaido wants he can wack black beard with a sea stone coated mace.

The man definitely knew what he was doing. Considering the fact that he mostly just goes with the flow and leaves decisive moments to luck and fate, he’s terrifying in his ability to put some of the most devastating and brilliant plans together and get them rolling on the fly.

In just a few years after he finally found the Dark Dark Fruit, he rewrote the rules of One Piece and filled the power vacuum caused by Whitebeard's death and stole his title as a Yonko which places him in the same position as Charlotte Linlin, Kaido and Shanks.
Amazing what you can do with the right plan, a goal in mind and some patience.
@@IronDragon-2143 it's not just those things though, he was already incredibly strong and presumably a formidable Haki user before he took the Dark Fruit. He was essentially Whitebeard's equivalent of Shanks. But then gaining access to possibly 2 of the strongest DFs in existence just makes him broken beyond belief.

This is 100% the most powerful Devil Fruit of all. So much power & potential. TOO much. This should be #1 on every best Devil Fruit list.
My theory on why Teach can use two Devil Fruit powers is that he used to be a test subject of Dr. Vegapunk. I'm thinking Vegapunk conducted loads of experiments on him as a kid. One of which was giving him a second stomach so, when he eats a second Devil Fruit, the two Devils don't inhabit the same stomach. It would explain his high threshold for pain and gives a reason as to why the sketch Oda did of Teach as a kid shows him crying while looking at the moon.

It definitely creates a lot of mystery about Devil Fruits as a whole when you consider the possibility of wielding two powers simultaneously. What's the limit to the Yami Yami's ability to absorb other powers? Could Teach theoretically absorb every power at once? Is it limited to just other Logia types or could he wield Zoan and Paramecia types? Imagine Teach absorbing Marco's Pheonix powers in order to compensate for the extra damage he suffers from eating the Yami Yami no Mi.
I like to imagine that despite the name, the fruit isn't just about darkness (the lack of light), but rather emptiness (the lack of anything - imagine the Nothing from the movie 'The Neverending Story', except being able to control it, thus an awakening would probably be just as catastrophic as in that movie). That would explain the ability to create vaccums, store objects and living beings and why the user can't become his element (how do you turn into nothing? And how would you turn back from nothing?).

I would go for the Kage Kage fruit. I think in the right hands and in conjunction with the Yami Yami's power it could have some interesting synergy. Imagine using Moria's shadow swapping ability to avoid taking damage since the Yami Yami doesn't grant intangibility.
@@chadschmaltz9790 I think Marcos Phoenix fruit would combo with darkness well. Not only does it give you that sweet logia intagibility, even though its not a logia it also seems to be able to heal.
No lie, this fruit that encompasses the absorption and nullification powers of black holes is pretty damn crazy, even among all of the niche and incredibly obscure Devil Fruits.
I can't wait for next week as we are finally starting the Thriller Bark fruits. Brook is the Straw Hat I had to read 40 volumes worth of manga in order to meet, and had to wait roughly five years to hear in English (The Thriller Bark anime started coming out when I was 15 in 2008, but Brook's English voice actor, Ian Sinclair, made his debut in the English dub of One Piece: Strong World in 2013.) Even today, the Yomi Yomi no Mi has tons of untapped potential, especially in light of Brook's post time skip abilities. Soul King spirit raid to "scramble the homies" anybody?

I think the YamiYami No Mi is the reason why Blackbeard can have more than 1 DF power- Blackbeard waited years UNTIL he found that fruit to kickstart his plan, something about that fruit allowed him to take WB's one I think

My assumption at the moment is that he has the ceberus zoan fruit. That would explain the 3 heads on his flag and the scar on shanks being from a claw. The 3 heads would allow for 2 additional powers.

Honestly, I feel like everything was written in such a way to as blatantly as possible, without outright stating it, say that this fruit *IS* what allows Blackbeard to wield a second fruit.
One huge reason I say this is because, last I checked, he went out of his way to try and find *that specific fruit.* He didn't just want any devil fruit, he wanted that one specifically. Something about it being the key to his plans, iirc.

My theory is that the fruit was what allowed him to get wb’s fruit, but the feat required him to then be able to contain two fruits due to his strange body.
I think the reason the yami yami no mi doesn’t have the logia invincibility is because the weakness of the dark is light and its almost always day time or there is light so the light from the world is probably cancelling the logia effect of the yami yami no mi so if its completely dark it would probably work

When Blackbeard goes into complete darkness, he can actually become intangible and then absorb the power of a fruit from a dead body. That’s probably the explanation
I think there is a big misconception when Marco mentioned Blackbeard having a "strange body". It has to obviously be due to the fact that the Yami Yami no Mi makes Teach a literal void, allowing him to house multiple fruits or "Devils" without any ill effects. The Yami Yami no Mi might also have a natural superiority over other devil fruits similar to how Akainu's Magu Magu no Mi outclassed Ace's fire abilities.
If it was the case that Teach himself had a strange body then he could've simply consumed multiple fruits up until the point where he found the Yami Yami no Mi and added it to his collection.
2:02 He was completely new to the fruit, so it would make sense that the objects weren't fully compressed! He was by no means a master of the fruit by that point, if he was then maybe we would've seen more compression on those objects

I'm a firm believer that BB's darkness fruit is somehow bound to his jacket and not his body. It doesn't act like a normal Logia as up to now BB hasn't BECOME darkness just emit it. We always see the darkness stem from his back or his hand (wrist of the jacket). And the fact that it has that weird side effect of doubling the pain BB receives instead of bypassing it entirely. Makes me think it's some kinda mythical Zoan or special paramecia or something that could be grafted to inanimate objects like Zoan types do.

I believe devil fruits do keep a part of their previous user's souls in them. Like the case with luffy and joy boy. Blackbeard must have been looking for this fruit itself for the experience/information that comes along with it or he has a connection with the previous user and not just cause its a powerful df. Maybe he wants their knowledge (like ancient weapons...

See the weakness widely known to logia users is haki, which luffy is now proficient in. In their first two encounters, luffy stood little to no chance, now he does but the only outliar is the fact that blackbeard now has the gora-gora no mi fruit. I think the final battle between the tow will be one to watch and probably deserves a movie to watch non stop without having to wait in between episode/chapter releases

the weakness his fruit has makes me think luffy's fight with him will be more getting good hits in without him and especially his crew(since with his hobby of archaeology/kaido & big mom having interest in her ability to read the poneglyphs kinda worryingly feel he'll go after nico robin at some point.) getting caught in his darkness/whitebeard's fruit causing chaos.

Well, we know it's possible to gain someone's DF power by eating them (Big Mom). My theory is eating someone, or a specific part (i.e. the heart), would allow you to gain more than 1 power. They said eating 2 fruits would kill you, but body parts aren't fruits. Didn't say gaining 2 powers would kill you, just eating 2 fruits would kill you.

I would guess that the awakening of the Yami Yami no Mi might allow for nullification of Devil Fruit Powers within an area without requiring direct contact. That alone makes it extremely scary. Or perhaps it would allow more direct control over gravity, maybe allowing the user to decrease as well as increase the effects at will. That would create some interesting scenarios in a fight and could help the user deal with the added impact from attacks.
Something I wonder (granted I am not quite caught up with the manga yet) is if the use of Haki would protect against the nullification effects of this fruit? If so then the Yami Yami no Mi becomes a bit less threatening to people like Luffy, Donflamingo, etc.
If this fruit is what allows the user to wield two Devil Fruit powers simultaneously, would trying to wield a power like Admiral Kizaru's Pika Pika no Mi be possible? Or would the fact that the Pika Pika no Mi is the elemental opposite of the Yami Yami no Mi cause problems? Personally, I would look at trying to absorb the Kage Kage no Mi because the manipulation of shadows might have an interesting synergy with the Yami Yami no Mi. Especially Moria's ability to swap places with a shadow double of himself. It would somewhat compensate for the lack of intangibility from the Yami Yami no mi.

Actually I just thought of a way to throw a sort of “shadow ball” or “dark orb”. Just absorb and compress a ridiculous amount of air into a ball then launch it. It’s a bit like kumas ursa shock actually but could be charged up by just standing around instead of locking up your hands doing it. Hell bb could probably just keep a couple dozen stored in him at all times

I have a Blackbeard theory. My theory is that Blackbeard is actually Rocks D. Xebec. I think that Rocks ate the Saisei Saisei no Mi (rebirth rebirth fruit) [yes I made the fruit up] similar to Brooks DF (Yomi Yomi no Mi) but instead of resurrecting him into his original body after death, he was reborn as a new person (Blackbeard). That’s why he has a plan set from childhood and joins Whitebeards crew because he was once his captain and Rocks knows that white beard is only focused on making a family so he can carry out his plan in secret.
Well it's an interesting theory but one hole (maybe). If the theory of him having 3 people in him is true who's the third person?

U r watching a game with your family, and the drink cool box are at the other end of the room. You get to bring it towards you using this fruit and look cool. The Zushi-Zushi No Mi is also usable here, but instead of looking cool, u make it seem like magic.

I'm interested in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia Blackbeard talked about. I don't know if it was in the manga or an anime exclusive thing, but when they were showing the story of how Blackbeard got his fruit, he mentioned that he knew the fruit Thatch had was the Yami Yami no Mi because he had read a book about devil fruits. So apparently somewhere in the One Piece world there is an actual Devil Fruit Encyclopedia that presumably not only shows what each fruit looks like but also describes their powers. I wonder who cataloged all of them all. I feel like the answer is going to be Vegapunk.

I think it's a safe bet to assume that the yami-yami no mi was what allowed Teach to absorb Whitebeard's devil fruit, not convinced it's what allows him to hold both powers.
My theory is that there is a small window just before a user dies were the devil fruit is still active. Like as the user is dead the devil fruit has some time maybe a few minutes before it leaves the body and is resurrected to an entirely different location! So cannibalism! I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Teach did to Edward, I mean his face gave away that he did something that not even he could handle! Or maybe it's about absorption similar to Kumas fruit, and you have to take in all their damage they sustained before getting to the fruits power before it leaves the body.
i think vacuum might've worked better as a descriptor i get that its darkness so dense or whatever but darkness being the absence of something therefore creating a vacuum would've been easier to grasp and balance
