    Grapes are a stereotypical/slightly old fashioned gift for someone in hospital here in England. So Colin's grapes are actually very thoughtful!

    Malfoy's performance in this match belongs right in the Quidditch Hall of Shame. He had every advantage like a faster broom and a rogue bludger attacking Harry, yet he still lost due to being distracted making fun of Harry. It's right down there with Ron's 2nd game in OOtP.

    30 bones in the arm does count the hand. There are three in the arm itself, 8 in the wrist, and 19 in the hand. If you include the shoulder girdle that attaches the arm to the rest of the body, we are up to 32 bones that Lockhart removed.

    The “he just ate” remark that Ron says to Hermione is in reference to Harry, not the ghoul. Hermione was asking Ron to tell Harry the details of the ghoul’s transformation to resemble Ron. Ron doesn’t want to tell Harry and gross him out because Harry just ate.

    I’ve been working on this theory all week but here goes. The reason that no one connects the now attacks with the attacks from 50 years ago is because Myrtle was the only victim. We never explicitly hear that anyone was petrified the first time. We only learn that The Chamber has been open before from Draco. Draco learns this from Lucius. Lucius learns this from Voldy. We also know that Riddle couldn’t take credit for the attacks in 1942, so that could mean it was never referred to as “Slytherin’s Monster” or referred to as “The Chamber of Secrets.” Hence why Binns says that it is legend, no one thinks it’s a basilisk since there is no similarity between the attacks, and they just assume Hagrid because monsters. Thoughts?

    • @raevalentine9002
      @raevalentine9002 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      I think this theory works, because back then, Riddle was doing the attacks In person (via basilisk command)... he wouldn't have wanted to petrify anyone, and leave 'evidence'. The reason students are being petrified now, are because they were forewarned (messages on the wall, Ms. Norris being a cat, Nick being a ghost, also being attacked via proxy (Ginny) So there were more chances for error and Riddle was trying to catch Harry's attention so he was being more flashy and less death-y to start

    • @FoxbrushDraws
      @FoxbrushDraws 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@raevalentine9002 The reason students are being petrified now is because no one looked directly into the basilisk's eyes. Mrs. Norris was petrified because she saw the basilisk's reflection in the water that was on the floor, not because she's a cat. The messages on the wall are intended to both spread fear, and to get the muggle-borns to leave the school. It seems like Myrtle was killed essentially because otherwise she would have known where the Chamber of Secrets was.

    I have a pretty simple theory as to why Dumbledore took the camera melting as evidence of the chamber of Secrets being opened again.
    As the Carlin bros have pointed out previously, the signs that the monster was a basilisk feel very obvious in hindsight. So my guess is Dumbledore actually suspected all along that Slytherin’s monster was a basilisk, he just never voiced it to or around the golden trio. Knowing what the monster is doesn’t necessarily make it easier to find the chamber though, so that’s why he still couldn’t stop it. So when he saw the camera melted, it confirmed the theory he already had which is that petrification had to do with vision (as opposed to a spell or potion or something). This confirmed it to be a basilisk for Dumbledore, which in turn confirmed that it really is Slytherin’s monster making the attacks, which confirmed that the Chamber of Secrets really is open again.

    • @IdaSantti
      @IdaSantti 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, it is too out of character for Dumbledore to have NO IDEA, what the monster is. Not finding the Chamber is okay, but having no idea what is in it, considering everything he knows about everything. No, just no

    Giving grapes in the uk is a given when someone is in hospital, often along with lucazade 🤣🤣 Grapes used to be a rarity in the uk, so a luxury. It could be a sign of status and concern for the person in hospital. Also, in the 19th century, there was a belief that grapes had the power to cleanse and purify the body, especially the blood. They believed that the natural sugars and vitamins could boost the immune system and help the healing process. In Victorian Britain, it was believed that after a medical issue, people needed a period of “convalescence” in which they ate only light, easily digestable food. Grapes were considered ideal for this, as they were sweet, easy on the stomach, and full of water (thereby aiding in hydration). As the Colin is British and a muggle-born, it totally makes sense to us British muggles that Colin brings Harry some grapes! Loved your story for this though!! ❤️

    What I find most interesting about reenacting Lockhart's books is that these are things that did happen, they just didn't happen to Lockhart. His whole claim to fame is based on stealing these stories from other wizards, getting all the details from them, and then wiping their memories. So the story of how the werewolf was dealt with was true, it was just another wizard that did it.

    When it comes to the professional Quidditch teams, I think the big difference is that quidditch is a lot more like auto racing than something like baseball or soccer, where you're participating in the game is extremely aged dependent. Likely many of these professional quidditch players are much older than your standard muggle athlete because they are mostly just writing on a broom and not exerting themselves quite as proficiently as other sports. So the fact that Oliver wood is only on the reserve team likely means that the keeper of Puddlemere United is much more experience than he is.

  • @Blixthand
    @Blixthand 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Once again you talk about Lockharts stuff never happening, but once again the whole point is that it did happen, just not to him. That's why it's still a good idea to read his books for DADA even if he himself is a pretty useless wizard and subsequently teacher. Everything in his books must be so carefully written to be truthful, but with the main character swapped, or it would be easy for someone with any authority on the subject to disprove him and make him loose all his fame and place his books in the fiction section.
    As for the werewolf curing episode they talk about here, it's most likely just an unfortunate victim of not planning far enough ahead. J.K. had decided how much werewolves would play into the rest of the story or that it would be a plot point that it's incurable. It's even inconsistent in the later books. In book 3 Lupin says that when he was bitten his parents "tried everything, but in those days there was no cure", implying that in modern times there is a cure, or at least something you can do if you get treatment soon enough after being bitten, but in book 5 at St. Mungos Mr. Weasley says there is no cure for the guy in the same ward as him that has been werewolf bitten, and that must have been right after being attacked and at the top wizarding medical institution in Britain.

    • @Blixthand
      @Blixthand 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@siomhagormley I understand what you mean, and that is probably the intended interpretation, but the way I always read it when I was younger was that there was a real cure discovered, but it was too late for Lupin, but then there is ALSO the potion, that helps those who already have it permanent.
      Either way I still think Lockharts example just wasn't thought through by the author al the way. She probably intended for it to be a true cure spell before she decided she needed it to be incurable for the marauder story to happen at all.

Lockhart says he'll copies, plural, of Magical Me to the one person who writes the best poem and so does he expect the winner to keep one copy and give the others to friends? LOL. Lockhart as Seeker--he would choose the most prestigious position on the team. Oliver Wood--"better people on our brooms." At the end of the Rogue Bludger, Harry grabs on to Dobby’s wrist. Dobby Disapparates and Harry is left clenching thin air..Fast forward to book 7, Chapter 14..Harry and Hermione decide not to summon Kreacher because they didn’t want to risk someone coming with him as he Disapparated. Yaxley was just able to do this by grabbing onto Hermione’s sleeve.

The school has at least three aspects: rule-breaking (Peeves), rule-keeping (Finch) and bad teaching (Binns). Maybe it also has grumpy librarians (Pince) -- and maybe Dumbledore has very little choice of his teachers and the only actual teachers he has are Snape, McGonnagal, Sprout and Flitwick. Only when girls started to go to school in Hogwards, they made some of the toiletts for girls and the one with the entry to the Chamber HAPPEND to be one of them, making it even harder for male heirs to find it. Not just bonkers, but to the point of understaffing.
    Dumbledore has three full time jobs. Even if the ICW isn't that often, the other two are. The fact that Dumbledore is juggling all three of these jobs means he can't focus on one. This is also reflected in McGonagall, who also has three full time jobs. Two of those jobs seem to be contradictory to each other and McGonagall is not adept at actually handling all three jobs to their fullest.
    Given the amount of staff and faculty we have, as well as the overlap, it feels like there are at least FIVE positions that need to be filled, and yet their duties are absorbed into other roles, some of which should not be absorbed into. Like, being a teacher and Head of House is fine. Being a teacher and Deputy Headmaster/Headmistress is fine. Being a Head of House AND Deputy Headmaster/Headmistress is NOT fine. And somehow, the combined Head of House and Teacher positions are tied by subject. Charms/Ravenclaw, Transfiguration/Gryffindor, Potions/Slytherin, and Herbology/Hufflepuff. While I can't prove the case for Flitwick and Sprout, Dumbledore was once Transfiguration Teacher and Head of Gryffindor House. the same with Slughorn as Potions Teacher and Head of Slytherin House.
    The world is set up so that the plot ignores these grievous oversights and lets things fall by the wayside so Harry can have plot happen to him. While, yes, that's the point of the story; however, it fails when it comes to reviewing or stepping back and simply thinking of the state of things.
    And just to drive it home, I propose that SEVEN roles within Hogwarts are missing in the current state of things, ignoring classes that once were available and later removed due to lack of interest and teacher availability. This was definitely the case for Trelawney and Divination, as we find out in fifth year.
    Just saying!!!

The image of Lockhart gadding about the countryside looking for ghouls to trap in teapots and tea strainers has a real “heroic tales of foppish derring-do” vibe that is perfect. Before the movies I had more or less imagined him as a blonde Hugh Grant in Notting Hill, super endearing and charming like that, despite the actual content of the self-absorbed garbage he was saying. I mean he basically marketed himself as a DADA version of Newt Scamander, terribly talented and twice as lucky

    It would be funny if Harry got the grapes and went through the same experience as I had when eating grapes in hospital 😂😂😂 One piece got somehow stuck somewhere in my neck, presumably some kind of sinus, where it shouldn't... I told the nurse, and they took me for a check-up. However, they haven't seen anything, so I spent the whole day feeling pressure there. Later in the evening, the nurse was moving my bed, so I had a better view of TV. In the moment, when I was standing outside, she blocked the door with my bed and started mopping the floor where the bed originally was, the grape decided to act... It somehow moved and blocked my breathing ways 😂 I laugh at the situation now, but it wasn't funny at all back then... I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk, and I was unable to reach the nurse, who wasn't facing me... so I smacked the door to get her attention, but she wasn't helpful at all: "You gonna throw up? Rush to the toilet, boy!" she said, not moving the bed out of the doorway. So the time for gestures was on! I shook my head in diassagreement, I pointed at my neck and pinched my nose, hoping she would understand. I have never found out how long it would have taken her, because in that moment my body solved the problem and I ended up holding the grape in my hand, like the golden snitch 😅 It was similarly satisfying 😅 I wonder why it took me so long to notice the similarity, as I was rereading the series back then before the release of OotP in Czech republic 🇨🇿
