Man, I love the sound of the car bounding back down onto the track after that extreme air-time hill! Brilliant! This is the first and only back-yard coaster I've EVER seen capable of doing this.
I noticed the ending was actually different from that in 2007. Was quite bumpy and jerky due to some sharp bends into the starting point. That part is a good hop now! :-)
That’s the best backyard coaster I’ve seen. It’s the fact that you can stay on it and don’t have to push the car at all. That makes it the best for me.
I always come back to this video. This was by far the hreatest backyard coaster ever built. I was so inspired as a kid watching this. I loved rollercoasters and this is the only one that actually feels like a real professionally built coaster. Still sad its gone. Always come back and comment in hopes that you will build another one and video the progress. Their still is no video of a proper coaster like this being built anywhere online.
@@RollerCoasterEngineer oh okay. Thanks for the update. I was about to say, gosh i remember watching when this first got built when I was a kid. That's still a very long time running for a back yard coaster.
This is the kind of backyard coaster I want to build. You should do a video showing us how you built it and an in depth tutorial on how you built the track and the car because I want to build one but way taller and longer.
Impressed with the effort to put antirollbacks on a coaster with no station, no multiple trains, and no buffers. Rollbacks probably would not even be dangerous on this and he still went ahead and installed antirollbacks anyway.
Thanks for the comment! Yes ARB is especially useful for multiple carts/trains. For me, it was about safety if the lift chain stopped, disengaged, or had problems. If there was no ARB, I would be reluctant to bail out of the cart because it could suddenly and violently roll back down the lift toward me or as I was exiting. Also hazardous to anyone near the track if the cart were to unexpectedly roll back. The cart is quite heavy and a strike from it would be serious.
You can see a really small chain to the left of the big chain that appears to be moving..maybe the big chain is static and is being used as the anti-rollback/chaindog on the cart?
Killer DIY Woodie!! Puttin’ those up-stop wheels to work, on that ejector airtime hill!!! Lol 🚀 Without a doubt, the most proper backyard example, as far as woodies go 🙌
@@bandmfanboy Yes, but on lot of big woodies, big chain moves and there are anti rollback rails at small chain position. Though this train is much lighter so it doesnt have to use big chain to pull up the train, but using big chain for anti rollbacks are quite funny lol
When you think about fabrication, it was way easier to find used large roller chain rather than fabricating and cutting a sawtooth pattern in steel for the entire lift. Had to use a big chain so the ratchet would reliably catch between the chain rollers.
I hope ypu build another one. This was the only true wooden backyard coaster. I will always consider this a credit even though I never had a chance to ride. But this is not some slapped together crap.
Yes, it was a great project. As a one-person project it provided 20 years of fun, but also 20 years of hard work! I knew I couldn't keep up with it forever, especially from a remote location, so it was indeed a bittersweet decision.

it didn’t look like the chain was moving lol
what i was thinking 😂😂
It was moving with the cart obviously
It’s a chainception. He used the chain for the entire chain
You can see a really small chain to the left of the big chain that appears to be moving..maybe the big chain is static and is being used as the anti-rollback/chaindog on the cart?
Because it isnt, the big chain is secured in place and acts as the anti-rollback

The big chain is used for anti rollback, in case power gets cut out or the other chain snaps so you don't roll backwards down the lift hill.
