    Take some advice from a 64 year old rider who has been riding for longer than most of you have been alive (48 yeats).
    LISTEN to this guy he KNOWS what he's talking about.

      Isn't a "yeat" a yellow beet?

    • @usernamemykel
      @usernamemykel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Abaddon Torment No, the Urban Dictionary says that "yeet" is "an exclamation".

    • @usernamemykel

      @Abaddon Torment Crushed 51 didn't use the word "yeet", he misspelled "years".

    this is what you need to pass balance, clutch ,and gas. I toke it last weekend. first time i rode. Dont worry the trainers will teach you what you have to do and in the practice runs you will find out how to ride. Ok Here are some tips only put your hand on the front break when you are stoping. If you think you are goin to fast in the s or the box prees the back break lightly not the front break. Press the clutch to regulate the acceleration of the bike.

      ***** its ok on the figure 8 i half stepped down because I took the first part of the turn too wide but other than that I was fine. Now it's time to find a nice used bike and start riding! Just know everyone is blind to you on the bike so get out in front of the pack. I had a guy literally pull right in front of me yesterday and I had to go full front and back break like they teach you in the class to avoid t boning him. Dickhead was on his cell phone not even looking at cross traffic.

    The trainers there are not there to fail you for those of you taking it. They're there to help you and make sure you don't hurt yourself or anybody else. They want you to pass. Just pay attention, ask questions if you don't know. If you fail, you deserve it.

    I have been riding for a very long time, but I never knew how hard it is to learn how to ride a motorcycle until I took my MSF course , to me it was as easy to get on top of the bike and go, it was a learning experience to me, so much information for a person that has no clue.

    I would recommend that you do these exercises BEFORE you take the MSF. Why? A) I was a complete newbie and never rode even a moped. When I showed up I struggled to keep up with my classmates(who all either had an MC already or drove an MC for years in another country). B) My instructor expected you to know how to control the bike pretty well , even shift from 1st into 2nd within an abnormally short distance to show you had control of the bike. Well, since I was a newbie AND wasn't wearing MC boots(a flat smooth sole is a MUST) I couldn't complete that exercise with the MC control needed. So I flunked.
    The 2nd time around I was prepared , and like the rest of the guys from my 1st attempt, I had enough experience to do the required exercises competently.
    It kinda makes sense. You don't take your automobile drivers test without having plenty of time behind the wheel already as a trainee. Same for an MC. Let a friend take you to a big parking lot where you can learn where all the controls are on the MC, what they're for and how to use them along with having the right foot gear so you can shift smoothly.
    Then practise simulated in stop start traffic(like heavy traffic waiting for a light), going through an intersection, speeding up by shifting and braking when you need to brake and do so smoothly.
    If you've never been on an MC before don't try the MSF w/o some experience. If you have an instructor like I did he's gonna bust your chops and fail you right from the get go. Just my two cents. I hope it helps someone be better prepared and save on not lose $$$ from being failed and having to retry and pay again later.

      So true. The advertisement for Team Oregon (MSF) is that you can just start up and go through their course. Bullshit! Beg, Borrow or Steal a way to get some riding time BEFORE you take this course. I bought and brought my own bike had some mishaps and failed. I was the only person who failed. there were several that should have flunked but passed. Additionally make sure you kiss the instructor's ass. In Oregon the instructors are paid volunteers and while some are cool you have quite a few on a power trip and are literally cunts that want you to fail. So kiss their ass and stroke their ego. That said you absolutely need to take this course to be legal so do take it. However be VERY prepared before you do. It's not as easy as you might think if you've never ridden before. Do what ever you have to to prepare.

    Sadly, I failed mine in the first 1.5 hours on the first range day. Had trouble with getting in Neutral, couldn't feel the clutch, nearly dumped the machine on the ground--after my goggles fogged one too many times and it came time for the next exercise, I took off my helmet and placed it on the seat and the instructor asked what was wrong. After seeing how I was shaking, he came back with a form asking me not to continue. I was the only one who failed out of 12.

    • @NicheRiding
      @NicheRiding  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Alonzo Branson just go back and do it again, why are you wearing goggles, just wear some sunglasses and youll be fine! Next time you will know what to expect:)

    • @pheenix42
      @pheenix42 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      NicheRiding Where I live at it's $199...fail and try on another day, and it's another $199. They told me 'eye protection', and since I knew my sunglasses didn't do the job from my pedal-start moped riding, I used goggles. Funny, day of the range session were informed that sunglasses were allowed since we would only be riding around inside of this large parking lot.

    • @BubbaTrucker11
      @BubbaTrucker11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Alonzo Branson trick to finding neutral that they don't tell you.. When ur at a complete stop and the clutch is all the way in, ur suppose to upshift a half click, if that don't work, let the clutch out just a little bit, not enough to move, but a little bit and try shifting that half click again, it'll go right into neutral.
      They got to remember alot of ppl have different ways of shifting and when u get alot of ppl in that course, the wear and tear on the shifter wears it down and sometimes you need a little trick like that to get it in neutral.
      My Harley does that to me once in awhile and I do that trick... How else did u Fail the class

    • @NicheRiding
      @NicheRiding  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have never taken a course or even a test for motorcycles, back when I got my operators license they simply ask if I wanted the endorsement on my license; It cost me an extra 50 cents. They didn't have a test at the time and hadn't even thought of the road test, I just make sure they always put it on my license when I renew or change information. I now have a valid class "A" CDL with the motorcycle endorsement from Virginia. My motorcycle is registered in Florida so I don't have to have insurance because I own it outright.
    I have a residential address in Florida that I use for my registration, I just got my new decal and they had my Florida drivers license number on the paperwork. What they need to do is have something on the regular drivers test about motorcycles, because in most cases it's not the bikers fault.

      @@rodm2345 it's ok to be nervous and afraid, I was and still am, a little. But i have 4 awesome classmates, 1 didn't pass the written test, so we encouraged one another. This one lady, she is so nervous, but then after the exercise is done, she's like , oh that was easy. She's always been the passenger, now wants to ride. So her , myself, and another guy have no experience what so ever. The marine , hasn't rode since 1995, and the last guy, he rides but something happened where he need to take the course again. The teacher walks you through everything , we determine how the class goes, meaning, we lift and encourage one another, honk the horns for good job, just have fun. You got , try to relax, it gets easier as you progress through out the course. You'll be doing a maneuver that you did the exercise before and be like, wow, I just did that. Yes it's mentally, physically, exhausting, but what I do is pray. Pray and HE will be there for you to protect and guide you through this time of Challenge. You'll do great! did the 8 box today it takes some confidence and know how to do it but once you got it its pretty easy. I took an msf course this weekend and the most confusing or difficult part for me was whether or not I should be leaning or counter weighting. Passed though only thingg they said i did wrong was on the emergency braking because I didn't stop a foot sooner but then again everyone in my class did the same thing.

  • @brianhoppenrath8379
    @brianhoppenrath8379 ปีที่แล้ว

    There’s many ways to do the figure 8, you can use clutch, or gas, or brake and or a combination of all. You can open the throttle all the way and with proper clutch and brake use still control the bike and do the figure 8. It’s all about the friction zone with the clutch and practice. No you don’t u turn a lot buts it’s about slow speed control of your bike in tight spaces.

    To relieve some peoples anxiety, when it comes down to the final test, screwing one thing up doesn't mean a fail. You accumulate points when you do something wrong (hitting the white line on the figure 8 for example) and you can get up to 20 points and still pass. I just passed my test an hour ago with an 8 at OOSI. In the mo fuggin rain!

    • @NicheRiding
      @NicheRiding  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrTreyco Definitely take it!!!! Even if your state doesn't make you do it, it teaches you so much and you learn how to properly swerve or emergency stop! Even if you have ridden before, the MSF will lower your insurance rate because you attended. The insurance lady said yup, MSF ok good when I told her as its a discount even though Florida requires you to have it before you can get your license now. Let me know if you have any questions, I really want to get on the MSF course and show what it looks like.

    • @NicheRiding

      +Monsta Piece they make you wear jeans, some sort of boots or cover up shoes. Also they want you to wear some long sleeve shirt or jacket. They provide the basic helmet so no problem there.

    I pass the class but I'm kinda nervous about riding my cbr600 f4i in a week lol drove the Suzuki tu 250. Worst thing to be honest is the clutch of some of the bikes the friction zone on some bikes are in the 4-5 friction zone 5 being released and 1 being pulled completely in. Make sure to ask for a different bike if its being a hassle for you. I did the 1st day on a good bike . started the second day on a crappy clutch bike but was having trouble so asked to switch . did so much better.

    Hi great video! I live in central FL too and am thinking of taking the course but there is another option at SafeRide that costs $200. According to them it's because the others don't include everything. Since you took the Osceola one, what were they missing in their course that makes it less expensive?

      NicheRiding im not even nervous about the msf or the test to get your license.. it’s just super good information to know. Im getting as much as I can before I actually sell my car and stuff/prep for riding. I’m more nervous about the idiots that don’t pay attention to motorcycles :/ I really don’t know if I’m gonna keep my cool if someone almost takes my life you know? That’s kind of the only thing that’s in the back of my mind that I’m really actually scared of. I know about being an aware rider and all, I know to pay attention and all that good stuff, but that still won’t stop some idiot on their phone who just cuts out if front of you without having time to react. Like that’s so scary to think you can almost die because some idiot isn’t paying attention

    • @NicheRiding
      @NicheRiding  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you will be fine, expect every single person might pull out in front of you and move over into your lane, don't hang out in people's blind spots and try to get eye contact with those people about to pull out of the side roads and you should be fine! I like to stop at lights right on the middle line between cars so if someone is screeching up behind me I can lane split out of there.

      you will be taught your head will lead the way so turn your head and the bike will follow right behind you. It's very strange at first. Getting used to just almost idling the bike and just putting it around is also easy once you get used to the bike. Just lean into the corner and it will turn with ease, no need to take any turns at 50, just take it at your own pace till you get used to stuff.

    When your doing the figure 8 are you on the throttle?? Or is it just clutch and rear break? I’m a little confused about that.

  • @Welletta
    @Welletta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for your video. I will watch it several times. Lots of good stuff. One issue, for me, is the controls. The video somewhat assumes that the location, role, & interaction of the different CONTROLS are already understood---such as the throttle. When discussing the figure 8, you say "just push and pull." Push what? Pull what? A read an article that said: "Find an MSF course that is woman-friendly," written by an MSF teacher. I had shift cars all my life, so that part comes naturally. But, contrasting that concept with how things are placed and how they compare on an MC is the part I need to grasp. Thanks for listening.

    • @NicheRiding
      @NicheRiding  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you push down on the handles in the direction you want to turn. I think I have a video on it somewhere? Sorry I am a dad now so I have had little time for this channel anymore. Basically any turn you are going to take,you just naturally push down in the direction you want to go and your bike will lean in that direction and turn:) Very easy!

    • @Welletta
      @Welletta 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reply! Your course info will be a big help. I will look for your other videos. BEST WISHES TO YOU.BTW--I read an article by an MSF instructor who advised women to "look for a woman-friendly course," where it is not all dismissive of or impatient with a new woman rider.

  • @FloridaBoilermaker
    @FloridaBoilermaker 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was 2008 when the Lic was endorsment was only given to those in classes. They done away with the learners permit. I took a class at Harley in Crystal River, Florida just after they started that and Harley was just stating to offer classes. Best thing I have done on the bike. Harley then used Buel Blast. now they may do the Street class. They use 500cc as that is the biggest that MSF will allow.
    My instructors didn't do the Kill switch unless it was the end of the day. The box for the U turn is about the size of a two lane road. My instructor didn't check for the first gear.
    Had a good time there and glad I took it. It is worth it. If you live where it is free you are stupid if you don't take it. It will only help you.

    • @FloridaBoilermaker
      @FloridaBoilermaker 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was mandatory when I took mine cause the DMV told me I had to take it to get my lic in Nov 08. I was 32 at the time.
      In June my little brother took his bike down to the DMV before they made it mandatory in 08 and got his. As of July 1, 2008 it was required. Any way it has changed some and needs lane sharing removed off it and It will keep changing.

      Boilermaker is 100% correct. You are allowed to go back 3 times within a year, well that's in PA. If u have a friend teach you, then you will be one on one with someone at DMV , and if they didn't get a good night sleep, or they got into argument with their wife /husband , ull be the victim of the day... I'm 44 yrs old. Been on bikes since I was 9, I went to the DMV for my bike license at 17. Then took the MSF few times in last 10 years just as a refresher course cause you'll never know everything there is about riding, if anyone says they know it all, they don't ....

    • @NicheRiding

      you will be required to downshift along with pulling in the clutch and both brakes at the exact same time. You basically just slam both feet down and don't take them off until you come to a stop and then put your feet down so you don't fall over:)
