This makes me cry because I always want to go home myself. Go home to my Father; the only "good, safe, honest, unconditional, graceful" Father I've ever had in my life. I don't have to wonder or "think" I know what he means by it. When you fall down on your knees crying for relief, going home to the Father is the only place home can be. Where you're safe and loved not matter what you've done, and you can no longer be hurt or have to suffer or struggle for the simplest things; where kindness is given AND received freely for "everyone", and is not considered a weakness. This one just drips the BLUES and sadness, spirituality. Sounds like old time religion to a degree from the tiny rural churches where folks lived for God, family and country. Wish it were still that way. My great grandfather built a little methodist church up in the hills in Alabama which still carries his name and his son, my grandfather, built a tiny methodist church in the small town I'm from. Funny story to that one thsts 100% true as he had proposed marriage to my grandmother. She attended the church my great grandfather built. Anyway, she told my grandfather, " I'm not moving to that heathen town till you build a methodist church and only then, will I marry you." Well, he built it and services started in 1907. They married that same year. I know, it sounds rwal Little House On The Prairie like stuff but church/religion, was a very important part of life then and it's not now. So I get Olivers line about folks don't pray no more. It's sad when you get to point that your so fed up with life on earth that you just want to go home to the Father before he's called you. I think I can share some context on the verse "four generations farming the ground, grandson sells to a man out of town..." I grew up on a multi-generation family farm and have watched them also go out of business. To run a farm today many lose money forcing something that has been in their hands for 100 years to be sold because the kids can't afford it. They sell to land brokers "rich men".
This guy has the ability to put what he feels about our country to music with simple, well stated lyrics. I believe he speaks for a large portion of the people who want to bring traditional American values back.

I see the “I wanna go home” as poignantly ambiguous. Sure, it can mean I want to leave this world and go to my spiritual home. I personally feel this to say exactly the longing in my heart and soul to return to the simpler times in my life, to my “home” when I wasn’t loaded down with merely surviving but when I really could relax and truly love and enjoy family and friends, when life wasn’t the frenetic “rat race” I’m in today, when I was in intimate contact with nature and truly ENJOYING life, when I really felt at home and at peace.

I am Canadian and was a drug addict and a drug dealer for almost half of my life until I came to know the Lord. I feel his pain, for I went through a lot. I now use my TH-cam channel to preach the gospel of Christ in the downtown area of Toronto. I have been praying earnestly for three years now, that God would awaken the people because there are evil men who seem bent on destroying humanity, and I believe God is seeking to save the lost. I see the “I wanna go home” as poignantly ambiguous. Sure, it can mean I want to leave this world and go to my spiritual home. I personally feel this to say exactly the longing in my heart and soul to return to the simpler times in my life, to my “home” when I wasn’t loaded down with merely surviving but when I really could relax and truly love and enjoy family and friends, when life wasn’t the frenetic “rat race” I’m in today, when I was in intimate contact with nature and truly ENJOYING life, when I really felt at home and at peace.
