A new generation of Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost all-aluminium engine is the most powerful ever offered for a Focus ST. Using advanced turbocharging technology to deliver 280 PS power at 5,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque from 3,000 rpm to 4,000 rpm, it is also the most free-revving Focus ST engine ever, and supports anticipated 0‑100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in less than 6 seconds.
Engine response is enhanced using a low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger, which scavenges exhaust gas energy more effectively using separated channels to minimise interference between gas pulses. An electronically actuated waste-gate allows closer control of boost pressures for optimised engine performance. In addition, a unique exhaust system that reduces back pressure, bespoke air intake system and optimised intercooler further improve breathing.
Innovative anti-lag technology developed for the Ford GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pick-up is introduced to the Focus ST, for immediate power delivery in Sport and Track Drive Modes. Anti‑lag keeps the throttle open when the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal, alleviating the reversal of air flow from the turbocharger to maintain compressor wheel speed and enabling boost pressure to build faster on demand.
Ford’s 190 PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue is the most powerful diesel engine ever offered for a Ford Focus model, delivering peak power at 3,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 2,000 rpm and 3,000 rpm - and 360 Nm from 1,500 rpm - for immediate and linear acceleration.
A low-inertia variable geometry turbocharger; steel pistons for less expansion when hot; and an integrated intake system with innovative mirror-image porting for optimised combustion help to deliver a diesel powertrain that produces 10 per cent more power and more than twice as much torque as the 2.0‑litre Duratec ST petrol engine in the first generation Focus ST.
The Focus ST’s six-speed manual transmission enables more urgent gear-changes and provides a sportier feel with a shift-throw reduction of 7 per cent compared with the standard all-new Focus. Ford’s new rev-matching technology that debuted on the new Ford Mustang is also introduced as part of an optional Performance Pack for 2.3-litre EcoBoost manual models.
Delivering smoother, faster downshifts, the technology is accompanied by a shift indicator light, and uses the engine’s electronic control system to briefly “blip” the throttle as the driver engages a lower gear - matching the engine rotation speed to that of the gear that is being selected.
Rev-matching enables less-experienced performance drivers to benefit from the seamless, momentum-maintaining gearshifts delivered by the “heel-and-toe” driving technique, while also enabling experienced performance drivers to deactivate the system if they prefer.
A new seven-speed variant of Ford’s latest intelligent automatic transmission family complements the rewarding, engaging and sporty 2.3-litre EcoBoost driving experience. Gear differentiation is optimised for performance, and Adaptive Shift Scheduling - which assesses individual driving styles to optimise gearshift timings - is enhanced to offer more flexibility and the ability to differentiate between road and track use. Drivers can select gears manually using steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters.

ours only came in manual and no one knows or care to drive them anymore. American market is shifting to SUVs now, that's why ford made the EXPLORER ST. but I agree that we should have kept it.
The entire Focus range has just been discontinued in Europe too. 2025 production will stop.

@@Packerm87 Being forced to shift into SUV's... you have sedan's and coupe's and shitty cross-over's but the wagon's and hatchback's are basically gone and really were the best blend between practicality and performance. To get an actual like half decent SUV that drives well-ish you'll need to drop 70k+ on it, otherwise you get a bulky living room on wheels with all the cons.
If you want a decent hatchback you need to look foreign, the domestic options are just way underpowered and that means blowing 5-8k more than you would originally want.
Blame the sales ..you people keep saying that we'll buy these cars but end up buying SUVS . Blame your hearts for taking u turns

Got a 2019 model Turnier ST-Line and the overall interior has stayed the same but the wider screen and the new digital display in the 2023 model looks really cool and is way more up to standard of the time, just the HUD is incredibly ugly and I wouldn't want that thingy in my car :D The lane hold assistant only works on highways and even then I wouldn't count on it but the Audi S4 of a friend isn't better in that regard. On the german market only BMW really nailed the lane hold but their assistant systems are really hectic and agressive. The impressive sound is coming from a sound generator even though the large engine in the ST isn't that quiet either. I personally think it looks quite basic and cheap (both interior and software) but the hard plastic is way more robust than shiny plastic or leather interiors and thats what I personally always loved about Ford. You also have way more interior space and you can fit in way smaller parking lots without having trouble to get in and out compared to other manufacturers where the door panel alone makes up a third of the cars width. I also love all those well conceived features that aren't always looking that nice but make the car really practical, like the hit protection in the door for example (even though that's an optional feature). The cars also last for a pretty long time with no issues. Our previous MK2 Turnier lasted for 16 years without any larger issues and repairs, just normal wear of the battery, brakes, etc. and then only started to build up some rust in the wheel cases.

They are an amazing car. I have the 2022 Mk4 ST in manual. I test drove the i30N, Gti, Megane RS Trophy and Peugeot 308 and as a drivers car, the ST won hands down IMO. Crazy handling and grip up a windy mountain road. Not available in Australia any more so glad I got one ;)

I waited for my Focus ST for 14 months now but im on the final stretch, car is on it's way to my dealer now.
I'm in talks with my dealer as they want me to in a new focus ST but I told them that if they can do me a better deal a d not pay anything more waiting for the results as they said I won't see the new car until next year

Great car but I need to congratulate peugeot. Ford and Wag group cars follow them 10 years after they used I cocpit back in 2013 308 t9. Peugeot is the trendsetter about this minimalist dashboard design. The engine sound and the design of the car is great but the tablet style screen and the button section below the middle airwents doesn’t look good like they put them after they design the dash.

I own '20 Focus Mk4 ST with 7 speed auto transmission. This seven-speed automatic is the same as the St-Line version of Focus MK4 but with a gear missing. Ford dropped one gear to make the seven-speeder. This transmission is not a powershift or dual clutch it is torque converter auto. I'm not sure what's inside this model, but the pre-facelift was not powershift for sure😉
From his telling, the mk2 RS what i have is not as sporty then that mk4 VAG Focus

NGL at the start of the video, my first impression was the exhaust sounds very rattly and tinny, similar to how any Toyota Aygo sounds (or it's other brand rip-offs like Citroen C1/2, Peugeot 106 etc).

Hey, I like your vids. However, I would like to give you some constructive criticism. I personally think and some may agree, that you’re too biased when reviewing or let’s say describing the car. Every car is perfect and incredible, how can that be? You could maybe compare it to some other cars in the class, talk about pros and cons. All I hear is compliments about every car in every driving video. Every car is silent and well isolated, every car is planted and visibility is perfect. Maybe you could work on some new words to describe the cars or compare them more often. There’s my 2 cents. Otherwise, I love the video quality and the content you produce. Keep going and good luck!
Agreed. Dan, I think you make great videos of high quality and professional. It would be helpful to add a little section at the end where you mention maybe 3 things about the car that you don't like or would change. Also, chapter marks would help :) BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Ford Focus video, great job !

@@hondacrxmk25 That is true, but I also think that competition between cars is really fierce today ... most car manufacturers have really improved their standards in interior quality and tech / safety features, etc. There are so many good cars available today, and most of them offer more features than even required, so it may be hard to find valid criticisms.

I laugh a little. Because when someone says that it's a wonderful sound, wow. This sound is made through the speakers in the car. And that's not a pretty sound. Only the hyundai N has a nice sound. True and not distorted in any way. Ford lags behind in the appearance of the interior. Since 2010, I think almost nothing has changed...
also say that the car holds well on the road at a speed of 40 km/h. I think that at such a speed any car would hold well on the road :D I don't think it's a test but more like an advertisement :D
