    Reasons to use thermometer:
1/ A bath for your young ones. Double check temp.
    2. Babies milk - as above.
    3/ Cooking, check cooked properly.
4/ Elderly family, use to check tea, coffee, soup, etc to make sure it is not too hot.
5/ Check the fridge to see actual temp is correct.
6/ In a fire emergency, check temp of door to see if fire behind it.
7/ poke it out the window in cold mornings to see if you need an extra jumper.
8/ Skating on ice, check for weak (less cold spots).
9/ Meals or hot drinks to check at restaurants and coffee machines to see if cooked or hot enough?
10/ If at work to check your employer is not beaking the law with a lower than expected environment.
11/ If you have pets to check temp if they are not their normal self.
12/ check temp of fish tanks.
13/ Check electrical stuff like plugs to make sure no overheating.
14/ to check windows or doors to see if there is any energy gaps.
15/ Checking temps of stuff like slides on hot days for kids.
16/ check for insulation by measuring inner and outer walls.
There are probably many I missed. But it could be useful for some?

When learning to steam milk it's good to get a feel of how hot 65°C milk feels as the milk breaks down when it gets hotter. So you can measure a few times just to get more confident.
Also when brewing coffee you can measure water temp to get f.e. 90°C, so you don't have to buy a 150$+ kettle.
I think many niche use cases, but people disregard it because they don't need it and everything needs to be made for them and only them.

The one thing that seems to have improved quite noticeably is the video quality. Together with the generally better build quality and the long term support, Google seem to be going the right way with the Pixels

The longer support is important. In a year or so the value of the phone should have dropped, but still has 6 years worth of updates left. €860,- for the pixel 8 is a lot of money for a lot of people. but in a year they will probably have some sales dropping it to €500,- which is much more reasonable. This way they can sell old stock. Only thing is that it might interfere with the pixel 8a in terms of budget so they should price that accordingly to keep it as the budget option. €450,- would be a reasonable starting price for the 8a.

I'm glad I went with the pro. I was a little concerned about the size and while I can't use it one handed. The size isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The camera edge makes the phone much easier to hold. The build quality is really nice, the brighter screen is great, and the long term updates give peace of mind. The watch bundle made the price easier to digest as I wanted the watch too.

Hello Mr TechChap. In these reviews I would like to see camera comparison with 2 or 3 gens behind, as example the Pixel 6 Pro or the Pixel 5. I think we should now distinguish between "full" and "partial" updates!
Yes, Apple gives 5+ years of updates, but has a noticeable tendency to artificially cut features that would be technically possible without problems to give customers a reason to buy the new devices.
So, we should judge companies on whether they really deliver full updates (if technically possible) or artificially withhold individual features from older devices.

If you are located in the U.S., I don't think it's worth switching to the Pixel right now, at least not until 2026. Although the Pixel is great, it still needs a couple more years to mature. With the iPhone ecosystem, all of your apps and environments work seamlessly together. I initially thought the Pixel was great, but I found myself missing the ease-of-use that comes with the iPhone, starting from the way you unlock your phone with your face, to all of the apps available to you at home. Pixel is great for photos, but it lacks the luxury and aesthetics of the iPhone. In my opinion, it's not quite there yet.

I returned Pixel 8 Pro and now using the iPhone 15 Pro, feel so much relieved.
The best part of Pixel 8 Pro is the camera and the Photo App, everything else, may be will get better in 2 years. But, will certainly beat the iPhone soon, they released tons of software features, which will take years for Apple.

8 Pro in UK. Generally good but some annoying issues which really deminished the experience for me. Called Google support, they gave up.
    1. The wifi calling option is missing from menus.
    2. App dots appear but don't populate with numbers of alerts
    3. Can't swap back, home, switch buttons at bottom of screen for right/left handed
    4. Max grid is 5x5. Why not 5x6 with such a big screen
    5. You can't remove 'overview ' on 1st home screen to use for you own widget
    6. When on a phone call and walking, there is a 'click' sound in time with each step. I haven't had time to try the settings but it shouldn't do it.
    7. You can't reorder home screen pages, you have to move each app icon around
However, battery good, screen lovely, camera excellent, photo editing awesome, form factor light and not too big.
I'm hoping many of the issues will be fixed in post👍😁

The Pixel 8 pro has probably frozen 2-3 times. Strangely enough, most mornings after getting up, I suddenly couldn't close the alarm app (clock). Other apps can also be laggy and sometimes freeze for a few seconds. Quite strange. TH-cam Music drains the battery like crazy... an hour of listening to music takes away 15-20% of the battery. The phone definitely gets very warm. Even today I could clearly feel it through the cover. On TH-cam Music, change background images, while looking at pictures on “Photos”. Compared to my Huawei, which was always fluid, never crashed and always stayed cool, it was actually a disaster. I'm thinking about returning the phone... I'm not sure yet. Actually, the camera is one of the most important things to me... let's see.

My first google phone since nexus 6p. Initially a little disappointed, especially with performance. Seemed to be a little laggy and stuttery throughout the UI. Also screen and speakers especially sucked compared to the z fold 4 i came from. However, over the last 72 hours it seems to be smoothing out. Maybe learning my usage patterns or me just getting used to the performance but definitely seems better now. Battery life has been pretty inpressive for me. I wish i'd just waited on the s24 but i'll see it out for the next year and hopefully a couple of software updates improve it further.

Viewing angles getting worse is actually a "good" thing. For a superbright screen to not drain the battery really fast, a screen can improve efficiency by aiming it's oled's as much as possible at the user, and not send light in directions unlikely to be of use. It seems to be like the greenish tint only appears at extreme angles, way past 45%, so it doesn't seem to be a bad thing.

Don’t buy the 8 Pro if you want a good photo or video experience! The Tensor 3 chip is seriously underpowered, it’s mid-level at best - as a result you'll get slow night sight performance and choppy, laggy video in a real time and in the video files themselves. The hardware cannot keep up with the software requirements, which are quite heavy in the various Google photo and video apps. The battery life really isn’t great in everyday use, especially in cities where towers ping the device regularly. I was getting 8 hours with Wi-Fi scanning and location services switched off. With the Apple 15 Pro Max, I'm getting 13hrs with everything left on. Luckily I managed to get a refund from Google after 2.5mths of use and switched back to Apple (15 Pro Max). The difference in performance and general experience is absolutely MASSIVE...its not even close. Google just isn’t a hardware company, almost every selling point is software. Software can be fixed but hardware can’t, not really. That’s the fundamental difference between Apple and Google, Apple nails the hardware and Google just can't seem to get it right. I'm certainly not an Apple fan boy, but after 10yrs of Android Nexus and numerous Pixel devices, I’m done. Pixel is just not worth the price tag and broken promises from Google any more 👋✌️

The front facing camera supporting purchases is also amazing coming from the iPhone perfect faceID unlock.

The most important tests are often never done which is signal tests and uptime tests. The Exynos modems for the Pixel 6 and 7 had major network issues. Had a Pixel 6 dozens of times a day no signal at all up to 20 minutes at a time on both ATT and T-Mobile even in populated cities around DFW. Same sim cards in a $50 UMX phone didn't have those issues. Got it RMA'ed same exact issue with a different Pixel 6 device inspected. Others had 3+ RMA's and just ended up giving up selling the phone for a loss or traded it in which is what I had to do too. Google only offers to keep doing RMA's. Every review for every phone should do signal DBM comparisons and other tests that are the main point of a phone. I had no signal on both that I physical was there to witness 1-2 hours daily and it did it nonstop randomly throughout the day. Not 5G bandwidth or network unable to make/receive calls/text or use the network. Changed every possible setting that exist flashed the rom's tried Android 14 beta ect. The Pixel 7 also had the same issues. There wasn't a day over the 4-5 month period that I didn't lose signal at least half a dozen times.

Pretty sure even google has given the 8 and 8 pro the same endurance rating as last year's models. Time will tell but rhe problem with 90% of reviews are spent with a week or less with the phone when it can take weeks for battery etc to find its feet/ settle

Nice and honest review, thank you. I got a good deal on the 8 pro when switching phone service provider, which means I get the phone and a watch for the equivalence of £795 (I'm in Denmark). If I sell the watch it's all good. I'm switching from the OP 7 pro, so I expect it to be more than enough for me. Not a gamer, don't really shoot videos and not a huge "screen on time user". However, there are a couple of thing that worry me. Does the phone heat up during normal day to day use? Is there a lot of freezing and lacking? How about battery time, is it good? Also, I'm worried about connectivity issues, WIFI, Bluetooth etc. It's funny how some people say that there are no issues, while others complain about many things. I mean, it's the same phone, right? It's a brand new phone, so I would guess that, a lot of these issues will be fixed with updates. All new phones have issues... I would really appreciate if current 8 pro users would share their experiences 🙂
