    Where the hell has this video been hiding? This is such good information for any pilot...not just back country fliers. Planning, precision and practice. It just makes sense. Thanks for this.

    This isn't just information for back country flying..... its for good flying in any aircraft! :)

    This video is freakin' AWESOME. Great content, excellent story flow and well edited.
    And I love the air to air stuff! It's so well shot that you don't even think about how the shot was captured - you just assume there is an omnipotent camera floating in the perfect place to get the shot.

      @Backcountryaviation  9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks! That means a lot coming from someone that knows there way around video! (I certainly don't, these take me some time!). The credit on the air to air goes to my wife, she flew most of the chase plane stuff and believe it or not those shots are with a go-pro so you can imagine how close we had to get for usable footage.

      Backcountry Aviation That's awesome "camera plane" flying by your wife! I think I have your info filed; but just in case (and if you're into it, please email me at flightchops at gmail dot com) I'd love to meet you and do some of that awesome big wheel flying with you!

    Perfect coverage of the questions - good mention that you have to commit (no 2nd guessing) and know your slow flight transitions (plane) well. I get into balks most when I haven’t gotten “aggressive” about landing after long legs. Cruise seems to lull me into a more reactive, complacent state. Something like dozing when driving. First thing on my list is to sit up and crack out of that. “I’m going to put this thing RIGHT THERE!” Good video

    I agree 100%. Great video!! The only other thing I do, not mentioned here is to limit my go arounds to (3). If I have to look at it more than (3) times I am fixated on the spot and should look for a better landing spot. I heard Paul Claus share this ides at Valdez a few years back and it stuck with me. I have put myself in trouble pushing myself to force a landing because of multiple reasons instead of looking for a different spot. I once landed on a extremely short gravel bar on a creek because I wanted to hunt a particular spot. Flying out a couple days later I found one twice as long around the next bend. I missed it because I was fixated on this great spot which in comparison was crap compared to the one I missed.

    • @Backcountryaviation
      @Backcountryaviation  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that is not a bad policy. I will sometimes do a few more passes, but never compromise the overall safety. On the other hand if I actually try to land and balk three times that is a different deal all together.

    Wow Man I rest YOU! I am a high time IFR pilot.. I am 67 non commercial. For Fun! Big Game etc. I owned a Turbo 210 Roberston STOL Intercooled 6607B Just got my license back (Cancer) and no fear but good pilot. I want this Airplane. What about the Turbine Cub? Seems a Turbine very inefficient at Low Slow Correct? I will come out and train until efficient in my airplane. Are you a Broker? Very interested at PAX River NAS Captain. Herb Bogie OFF.

    why so much aileron to almost full on every landing??

    • @Backcountryaviation
      @Backcountryaviation  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Small ailerons I guess. Cubs and cessna’s seem a little better in that dept, but the maule has plenty to offer elsewhere. I didn’t ever realize how much movement it requires till we shot it for these videos.

      @@Backcountryaviation I imagine control authority must be shite at those low airspeeds. Y'all are churning those controls hard enough to have fresh butter after every landing.

    Fantastic vid.... Love this stuff ..... GO AROUNDS? We know, no such things... Get your sailplane ticket, if nothing more, than for the 100's and 100's of zero Go Around landings you will preform 100% of the time, period. Your mind is a bit deeper then you think, when go around's simply don't exist. Wish I could add back country power flying to my soaring!
